Beautiful boots but they run slightly narrow for me and were uncomfortable just standing still in them. Too bad they don't come in wide. I would give these boots a five if it weren't for the width problem.

by Kytech Do not buy Merrell from LL Bean
Sole fell off while hiking near Gatlinburg TN. Only a few hours use on these LL Bean hiking boots. Because of this, and other issues, I am rapidly losing confidence in LL Bean product.

Rated 4 out of 5 by ActiveNJ Finally a pair of boots
I ordered 2 different pairs of LL Bean boots last year and had to send them both back. Unfortunately they don't seem to make the pair I have (and love). So I squeezed out another season in the old boots. This year I tried again and while I'm not necessarily loving them, these boots will do. I did go the half size larger like others have said and I'm glad I did.

I found these shoes not to be like the previous chameleon I ordered 2 - 3 years ago. Before I bought these I tried to find an older pair but was unable to find them. One problem I find it only has five eyelets for the shoe string which makes the shoe fit not as tight. My last pair of chameleon had six eyelets. The tongue is not closer. The shoe is attractive but I miss the older models.

Rated 5 out of 5 by SouthMass12 Go a size up, Ladies!
I liked these shoes the first time I saw them on LLBean website! I just loved them and wanted them! They look so cute! So, when I ordered them and got them, they looked so tiny, but the fit was great! I ordered one size up. I wear 7 1/2 usually. After reading carefully every review, I ordered one whole size up and I am glad I did so. These shoes in size 8 1/2 allow woolen socks and leave enough space for very very thick socks for the cold rainy fall weather that I anticipate. I bought kangaroo hide boots from LLBean for cool and dry fall weather, but these shoes should be waterproof, I will wear them when it rains. I will probably write another review after I wear these shoes for about one month, to tell how they feel and work. I am leaving this review now for people to know that these shoes look cute and tiny, just order a size up, they will not make your feet look large. I wanted these shoes, now I have got them, oooh, good! Thanks!

Rated 4 out of 5 by cr1t1que1 Good Boot, but Short
This boot is well-built, but runs a bit on the short side. I am usually an 8 1/2, but this boot was a little tight in the toes, and I am afraid the 9 will be too big. Overall construction was sturdy, and it had heel pulls which is a definite plus. The only thing I did not like about the boot was that the front is bent slightly up, which may be for easier push-offs, but I found it to feel off-balanced.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Luv2Geocache Love these boots!
These boots have become my favorite pair of footwear. We geocache or go hiking almost every weekend and these boots are fantastic! We have found ourselves everywhere from rocky slopes to the woods, crossed small streams, gone through swampy muddy bogs and stepped through water. These boots have held up to everything, kept my feet bone dry and they are so comfy. I also wear them to work when I am going to be walking around the plant a lot and they are comfortable enough to wear all day. They have kept my feet warm and dry through all of it. They do run a little small and you should definitely buy them one half to a full size up depending upon how thick your socks are. I pair them with lightweight wool socks and find them to be extremely comfortable. Excellent quality, they still look almost new.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Live4Today Feel so light and natural, like wearing sneakers.
I tried 4 pairs of hikers in the store (including the Merrell's) and it was striking how the others felt so large and "cloppy", like I had to walk differently due to the large soles. When I put on the Merrell's they really felt so natural that it felt like I was wearing sneakers. I had a normal stride and it barely felt like I had "shoes" on at all. At first I was a bit worried that maybe the sole was thinner than the others and my feet would feel the cold easier, but I have not found that to be the case. I've worn them several times on hour long walks through deep snow, sometimes packed snow and road walking and have been very pleased. They have been ultra comfortable and have not hurt my feet at all. There were a few observations about the hiker to consider however. As I wore them more they felt a bit wide and I'm unsure at this point if this is a concern for me (I have average width feet). I felt it was possibly that it is just very hard to tighten them drawing the sides closer and maybe as they break in this will be easier to do. When I had my husband really wrench on the strings to tighten them it did feel better (less wide), but then I'm still concerned that as they break in more, they might also get looser/wider. Anyway I decided to keep them and add a sole insert if I continue to feel they are a bit wide. Second observation was they did not have the special non-slip clips at the top to hold the laces in place once you got them where you wanted them (I loved those on my old ones and the other hikers had them). Third observation was that they are a bit lower at the ankle than other mid height hikers. This can be good as to prevent the front lower shin "bite" one can get from higher hikers especially when doing trail walking (going up over rocks, etc. requiring lots of foot range of motion). Because the Merrell's are so low (not as low as sneakers, however), there is a chance snow and water can get up and over the boot (especially the back) when walking in deep snow or water (this did happen twice to me). All in all I have decided to keep them as they just are soooo comfortable and easy to walk in. As long as the wideness does not become an ongoing unresolvable issue the only thing that would make this boot better (Merrell are you listening?) is to put those special clips at the top to really cinch and hold the strings once in place. As far as the boot height, I decided I'd rather buy gators to use when I know I will be facing deep snow or water conditions rather than risk the bite of higher mid sized hikers all year round.

Rated 1 out of 5 by BS1234 HIKING BOOT
My wife wears size six narrow shoe so to allow for heavy socks we ordered a size seven...just in case?? WRONG...size seven way too small. had to return for a size nine and hope that it will fit.

Rated 4 out of 5 by maidenitaly Good-looking hiking boots!
I read the reviews and ordered the next size up and they seem to fit perfectly. I will buy thinner hiking socks, as the ones I already own are too thick. These boots are comfortable to walk in and make my feet look smaller (size 9) and the little bit of berry color will go nicely with the rest of my hiking gear. I'm rating these boots as Good. After I use them, I'll probably upgrade them to Excellent--L.L. Bean--can't go wrong!
