I'm a street photographer in Seattle and these boots are perfect for walking around in wet city conditions. I normally wear 8.5 and ordered these in an 8 because they run very large. I wear them with LLBean wool rag socks as recommended by LLBean. They are very comfortable for all-day wear. This type of leather is soft and flexible from the get-go and doesn't need breaking in like some of the other LLBean rain boots (I also have the special edition red boots, which have much stiffer leather). These boots came with two different colors of laces. I prefer the yellow, though they aren't quite long enough to lace up all the way when you wear thick socks. The red sole is a brick red, not quite as bright as the pictures but still a very nice red. I haven't worn these in deep puddles or muddy conditions, but for rainy city days they're perfect.

Now these are the boots I wish I had had working in montane rainforests 15 years ago, when each morning I would ask myself not whether, but just how soon my Gore-tex lined hikers would be squelching with water (9.30 AM? 10.30?). The Bean Boots are impervious to water and mud. They are also comfortable, with lots of room in the toe box. My socks are dry and I can wiggle my toes. Ahhh.
Appearance-wise, I LOVE these boots. I have previously made my peace with dorky or campy looking footwear, but these? The coordination between the rubber and the leather is excellent, and the dark laces, well, they tie everything together. The overall effect is subtle, rugged and capable.
Sizing worked well when I followed their directions. One of my feet is 7.5W and the other is close to 8M. I ordered a 7 and the fit is great. There is plenty of room for an extra pair of socks - which you need if it is cold.
Which leads to my only criticism of this boot - a bit more insulation would be helpful. The Thinsulate Bean Boots are out of my price range - ca. $100 more! - and I wish Bean could figure out a way to make an affordable boot that can help a bit more in the cold temps. I wore these today cleaning up after the big snow in the northeast, and a second pair of socks was definitely in order.
A previous reviewer has expressed dissatisfaction with the fact that the tongue is fully connected to the rest of the boot all the way up - she says she can't get her feet in and out, and when she handles the laces her hands get muddy. I disagree with her - a gussetted (SP?) tongue is essential to keep the rain/snow/mud out. Sure, the boots are a little more difficult to get into/out of, but they do their job: keeping your feet dry. And if your boots have gotten so muddy that loosening the laces is going to get your hands dirty, then probably you, your hands, and your boots are all going to need a quick wipe-down with a damp cloth in any case, and your laces will need to be unthreaded and quickly rinsed. It's worth 5 minutes of maintenance if you want to keep these wonderful boots in the shape they deserve be kept in.

Rated 5 out of 5áby crnvermont attractive and functional boots I love, love, love
I saw these boots on someone and realized they were exactly what I had been looking for -- a boot that would keep my feet dry and still be good looking to run errands in. This boot is stylish and classy as well. I knew from reviews that sizing would be a challenge so I went into my local LL Bean store to try on a few options before ordering online. I am a 9.5 women's but 9 worked best for me in the boot. After receiving them I wore them into the store and tried on the shearling footbeds because I wanted the ability to add a little extra warmth on days when it is cold and wet. Was a great day to test drive the boots - we had a ton of rain on top of snow which left LL Bean's parking lot and everywhere flooded. I ran my errands with warm and dry feet that day. In fact I have found an excuse even on dry days to wear by Bean Boots rather than snow boots for errands. Highly recommended but be aware -- these are so popular the wait can be a month or more to get them.

I was so excited to get this boot, and so disappointed when I went to put it on. The tongue is sewn to the sides of the boot. 9 times out of 10, I am a 6.5 shoe size, and that is what I ordered in this boot. It was a real struggle to get my foot in the boot, due to the tongue being sewn to the sides. Once I got my foot in, it was perfect. But, I couldn't imagine trying to pull the boot off after walking through mud. My hands would be a complete mess. I sent them back.

Rated 1 out of 5áby lwert Poorly made boot
After receiving these boots as a gift, I was very excited and looking forward to wearing them in the snowy weather. However, upon stepping outside for mere minutes, my feet became wet. I am pretty upset that such a reputable company would sell "snow" waterproof boots that are so poorly made. After only walking to my car in the snow my toes became wet, I can't imagine wearing these boots for an extended period of time in the elements. Furthermore, they along with all other snow boots are sold out until the end of February, so getting a new pair for the rest of the winter is not possible. I am very disappointed in this product and sad that boots I was looking forward to having and using were poorly crafted and completely ineffective.

Rated 5 out of 5áby MAexpat Runs big, but same great quality as always
I grew up wearing LL Bean. Mud mocks were a staple for MA winters and rain.
I have very wide flat feet. The shoes are extremely wide, and a bit long even with very thick socks. That doesn't present too much of a problem for me, though, and I did not return them for a smaller size. If you usually buy shoes a size too big to make sure they fit, don't bother with these.

I really love the bison grain and finish on these. They say that they run a bit big, as to allow room for thick/extra socks - totally true and useful. They are a little hard to get on for me, the tongue of the shoe (which is attached to the sides) and the top of my right foot don't agree, but once they are on, they are perfect. These make jumping in puddles and shoveled piles of snow a little bit easier to bare.

Rated 3 out of 5áby Nov13 As advertised but fit very large & get hot
Pros: These boots are esthetically pleasing while the insoles are shaped well with lots of cushioning. I have med-high arches and boots are very comfortable with reasonable arch support. They are also well insulated and waterproof.
Cons: My biggest complaint about these shoes is about their size -- they were way bigger than expected. I normally wear between an 8 and 8.5 and purchased the 8 as recommended on LLBean's website. Even with heavy socks, these shoes are way too big! I would have to double up on my heavy socks to make them fit. Also, they are extremely hot. I wore them into work on a snowy/rainy day and regretted it. By the end of the day my feet felt like they were on fire and once taking off the shoes I found my socks were soaked through with sweat. (I do not have this issue w the same socks in any of my other pairs of winter boots.) I'll only be wearing these when I can remove them once indoors. One last minor issue... the leather was a little stiff and took awhile to break in.
