Rated 5 out of 5 as you'd expect, these are great boots
These boots are fantastic. As other reviewers have stated, they do run a little large. I'm a 9 and I ordered a 9; they have a little extra room but I prefer them that way because they are easy to get on and off. The soles aren't as orange as they appear in the photos, more of a brick red but still eye catching. A nice, modern twist on a bean classic.

Rated 4 out of 5 by LLAddict913 Hard to get on but love enough to keep
Definitely read other reviews for sizing advice. Thin socks? Maybe go down only a half size. Thick? Go down a full size. Foot bed definitely runs large. If you want warmth you will want to purchase liners or wear thicker socks - chilly feet without. I am a 7.5-8.5 and ordered a 7 which is roomy with thin socks but perfect with thick. Problem is I have high arches and with attached tongue it is extremely hard to get my foot into the boot. Hoping the leather will soften and stretch with wear but put an email in to customer service for advice. Comfortable! Hoping the leather does not flake off its color like another reviewer said it does over time. Red is not bright like in photo definitely more of a dark brick red. Excellent quality just wish they went on easier s can't give a full 5 stars.

Purchased these Bison 8in boots for my daughter and she LOVES them. The leather is beautiful and soft with great foot support. I am so picky with my own shoes (if my feet aren't happy, I'm not happy) that I decided to order a pair for myself and ordered today! Great things comes to those that wait and so HAPPY to see these are MADE IN AMERICA! We love you LL Bean!

Rated 5 out of 5 by sarahEL Amazing boots
I was so excited to finally receive my Bean boots after a long wait! The store associate told me that I should order a size 6- I normally wear a 7 in other shoes and the 6 fits perfectly, with room to wear either thin or thick socks. The boots are pretty hard to get on initially because they are meant to fit right around your foot, but it's great because my foot doesn't slide around even when I wear thin socks. The footbed has great arch support and the leather is breaking in nicely after a few wears. Amazing!

Rated 2 out of 5 by Msesselle Not so waterproof
I've heard great things about the brand and their boots and thought I'll give them a try. The craftsmanship seems to be good quality but unfortunately it didn't hold to be waterproof. After walking about two blocks in the snow/rain, my feet and socks were wet. I don't know if it's just my pair thats defected but needless to say I am a little disappointed

I bought these as a birthday present to myself and also because I actually needed some boots that could handle the outdoors. I wanted a new waterproof boot that I could wear all year round. They run large, so order down a size unless you have some really big fluffy socks. You'll need those fluffy socks to keep your feet warm anyway. I am somewhat self conscious when I'm wearing these out in public because I feel like they make my feet look gigantic and they are mildly clunky, but I love that these are a bit different than most of the boots out there.

by BeansRegular Excellent Quality LLBean Bison Boot!!
I have several pairs of Bean Boots, as do many of my family members. Many are designed for specific use (i.e. insulated) but all that we own have consistently been of top quality.
I purchased MY pair of Bean Boots 8" Bison Leather boots in December of 2012 and received them 1/3/13. They have worn very well, without any flaking, cracking, or wearing-off of the colored surface of the leather, as another reviewer had mentioned. I did notice that my boots did not appear as "orange" on the interior surface as the boots shown on the website. I have included 2 pictures of my ACTUAL boots in regular focus and in super close-up.
I too have done hand-sewn leatherwork. When some leathers are dyed with darker colors throughout, the inside surface color tends to rub off on the surfaces it contacts, especially if the surface contacted is wet (think dark brown splotches on socks). I have several pair of other Brand name shoes and boots in which a Natural or lighter color interior is evident and it has not affected the durability of the shoe leather.
I am sure that LLBean has used the best dye-processing available for their handmade in Maine Bison Leather boots. These boots are one of their best known signature items, the quality of which is unmatched in the marketplace, in my opinion.
I have full confidence in the longevity of my Bison Bean boots, and the LLBean "guaranteed to last" policy only increases my confidence.
I will say that the sizing information listed is very accurate. I wear a misses 8.5 to 9M shoe (US), a solid EU39, and with light- to mid-weight socks these Bison Boots in 8M are a perfect fit. I have not experienced heel slipping with regular socks, and there is definitely enough room for heavyweight socks.
The shaft of the boot is a bit narrow, and the first few times a bit of effort was required to squiggle them on. After that, they have softened and molded to my feet, and now slip on without any extra effort. I have normally arched feet, no high arches which may make it harder to slip these boots on. Once on, the insole is very well contoured and comfortable, even for hours spent standing and walking.
I do not hesitate to recommend these Bison Boots unconditionally to anyone.

Rated 2 out of 5 by womanoutofdoors Disappointed in the quality of the leather!
Let me preface with the fact that I loved my L.L. Bean boots that I wore for almost 20 years! Superior quality in all aspects, I wore them a lot; I never had to replace the sole, and with good care, even the leather held up well! I was sad to have to finally retire them. I ordered these boots as their replacement, expecting the same exceptional quality. They were different and looked great online.
The boots arrived last April and the sole, the rubber foot and the sewing/construction is still excellent; however, the leather used on these boots is extremely disappointing! I create hand-sewn leatherwork as a hobby and use bison all the time in my pieces. It is a thick, rich, soft, and supple leather with a natural or matte finish. When the boots arrived, I was concerned that their bison was of inferior quality; I was right; with only 9 months of light wear, the brown color is cracking and/or wearing off, exposing the interior orange-ish leather beneath. Leather can either be "dyed" or "coated with coloring;" dyed leather is colored throughout, but inferior leathers often have the coloring sprayed on, giving the leather a "plastic" look; it will always remain stiff and the coating will not let leather conditioners or waterproofing penetrate at all. In the photo, you can see that the leather is brown on the exterior and the interior is an orange-ish color, meaning the boot was sprayed with a coating to create the coloring. If you look at any of their other dark brown boots, you will see the leather is dyed brown all the way through and has a matte/natural finish. If you zoom in on the photo of these boots and look closely, you can already see bits of the orange interior being exposed; it deteriorates quickly with wear.
As a loyal L.L. Bean customer for over forty years, I have always appreciated that they kept their standards high: they never cut corners in their quality of materials or construction. Last year I saw a pair of men's pull on boots that had beautiful bison leather; that's the quality I expected on the women's bison boots. Why the difference in the two products? This is the first time I have ever been disappointed in L.L. Bean's quality; I hope this is an anomaly, not an indication that after all these years, they are lowering their standards.

Rated 3 out of 5 by copperlemur Didn't fit
Was looking to replace an old pair of bean hunting boots that got holes in them. I usually wear a 7, but the recommendation (and my old pair) was for a 6. As they were on back-order, I waited a couple of months for them to arrive. They look nice, but they don't really fit. I do have high arches, but with only very thin socks, it took a lot of effort to slide my foot down the boot shaft. Wasn't even sure I would be able to get my foot in. Once they were all the way on, the footbed did fit, but I would not be able to wear even light to medium weight wool socks. The tongue did not lay flat against the top of foot, instead having large wrinkles, but I could probably have lived with that, They were also very difficult to get off. Not even sure a larger foot size would make a difference in the narrow shaft. Since they are on back-order till spring, that's it for me. After years of Bean boots, I'm going to have to switch brands.
