I really like the history of this boot. When I finally decided to order the only sizes left were 6, and 11. I normally wear a size seven in athletic shoes. The size guide said to order a size down unless you plan to wear heavy socks, which is what I had intended to do. Beings the size 7 was sold out I thought I would gamble and order the 6 along with a pair of beans 12'' merino wool socks. I totally expected them to be too tight and I would have to send them back. When they arrived they fit perfectly with the rag wool socks. I sealed them up with the provided sno seal. Laced up the leather laces and was very surprised how comfortable they were. The leather laces provided could be a bit longer, and being a 12 boot, you do need to unlace them most of the way to get them on, and off. They need to use speed hooks for the upper portion of the boot.

The boots look nice and I'm sure they are nice, but I could not even get my foot pass the shaft of the boot. So I was never able to try them on. I wear an 8.5, but based on the reviews I ordered size 8. If I were able to get my foot in the boot it appears they would fit. Unfortunately I will be sending them back. I think I would recommend them, based on the other reviews I have read and llbean's reputation, but I would have to tell them my experience about not being able to get my foot inside the boot.

áby BINCLLBeanLove Made a quick adjustment and now I LOVE these boots
Okay, I hemmed and hawed over these boots for months. I wanted them, but I was pregnant with my first and didn't know if my feet would get fatter or bigger or whatever. Anyway, last February I finally bit the bullet and bought them. I'm a 7.5 so I think I got the 7. However their sizes work - I followed their advice.
The shoe fits GREAT! But it would take me like 10 minutes to get them on, and I would break a sweat and be out of breath by the end of this struggle! I was pregnant, so I figured it was my fat feet (I had pretty severe preeclampsia and everything about me looked like Jabba the Hut). But then my son was born and everything went back to normal and I still can't get these boots on! Anyway, it's been a year of struggle. I've heated them in the oven and weather-proofed them multiple times, and tried stretching them using a blow dryer. Still just as hard. This morning, had a brilliant idea, and now I'm so happy! Took an X-Acto blade and slit from the 2nd to 5th bracket from the bottom of the shoe up the inside edge of the tongue. Now they slip on and off super easy. Now, I live in NC and am only wearing these for looks and the occasional snow day. Not sure if this is the best bet if you are actually tramping thru snow on the regular. Just thought I'd share for those not necessarily wearing them out of need.

Rated 4 out of 5áby Piscean not as tall as they look
These are not as tall as they seemed to be in the picture, they come with a pair of leather laces and a pair of cord laces. A bit diff to get on/off if you plan on wearing thick socks I recommend getting your true shoe size. I like the comfort they afford me

Rated 5 out of 5 Winter Classic
I rave about my boots to anyone that will listen; I love these so much. Originally I set out to find a rain boot, but wanted something a little hardier that I could comfortably wear in a mild winter. These are those boots. My feet are warm and dry in the mushy DC winters, and I no longer slide all over the brick sidewalks at the first sign of moisture.
My only complaint is that the shin is VERY narrow. I have thin legs and can barely lace up my boots completely with only a pair of skinny jeans underneath. A friend of mine with shapelier calves tried on my boots and was not able to comfortably wear them.

Oh, how I love these.
They are a very practical height for typical New England snow storms. They are also good for wearing around the barn and in muddy paddocks the rest of the year, and for tracking with my dogs. The leather is tough but much softer and offered fast and painless break-in compared to previous Bean Boots I've had. The red sole makes these look considerably "richer" than the regular beige ones.
I wear a size 11 in a street shoe and have a fairly low foot volume. They were out of the size 10 that the instructions said to order, but I figured I'd give the 11s a try, and I'm glad I did. I wear SmartWool socks every day anyway, and have some super bulk ones for really cold weather (I live in Vermont, so it gets nippy). I added a thin pair of winter air-filled insoles under the ones these shipped with, and the fit is absolutely perfect even with very thick socks. I find these comfortable down to 20║ or so if I'm moving around and have thick socks, but move to something insulated for colder than that or if I'm sitting still.
As others have mentioned, you do have to unlace and put up a bit of a struggle to get your foot in, and these might be too much for folks with high insteps.
The solid, gusseted tonge is *fantastic* for accommodating calves of all sizes. I have *very* wide calves, and can never find boots that fit, and these left me with room to tuck in jeans--a first!!! The way they're built means they fold to fit very slim calves as well. A genius (and weatherproof) design, really.
Buy them. They're much cooler looking than the regular ones, are a great height, and are surprisingly comfortable and supportive for walking.

Rated 2 out of 5áby Unruellie Just a smidgen dissapointed
So I want to start by saying I LOVE these boots....however, they are a PAIN to get on and off. Like a serious chore. It's so frustrating, I swear I'm going to rip the little leather loop at the top from pulling so hard. It takes me forever and I have a normal sized foot...medium width, size 8.5 so I bought an 8 and they fit me perfect but getting my foot INTO the boot is RIDICULOUS!!! Of course these aren't insulated which I thought wouldn't be a problem because I could just wear socks but boy was I wrong....I can't wear anything thicker than my regular thin socks (which in turn make my feet FREEZING!!!) I'm considering returning them and maybe it's the length and I just need to get a lower shaft (like a 10 or 8 inch) but I dont know.....:( Too bad...these boots were so close to perfect:(

I was expecting these boots to be functional and to last a long time. I was not expecting them to be so darn comfortable. I have worn them almost everyday for the last two weeks. I have worn them for entire days. They do not make my feet sweat (the way rubber rain boots do). They were comfortable out of the box. I did not have to "break them in".
I usually wear an 8.5 or 9, I ordered the 8 and they fit perfectly. I have slightly narrow feet and an incredibly high arch. As some previous reviewers have noted, the tongue is stitched to the boot all the way up, it is not separate. It is a little difficult for me to get my foot into the boot. I have to unlace them nearly all the way (to the last 3 eyelets) and I have to pull on the tab. I consider this a minor inconvenience that is worth it.

I bought these for my daughter at college here in Michigan. Loves them! Fit is very good, the little bit higher height is great. Would recommend these to anyone. Plenty of room for thick socks also. (Go Blue!)

These boots are great for winter weather and take some breaking in to get used to the boots. So if you are in an area with a lot of rain and snow, I would definitely suggest these boots.
