Rated 1 out of 5 by MomInMarshfield I WANTED to love these
I wore my previous Bean Trailmodel Hikers until they literally fell apart on the trail. So I had hoped to have the same experience with these.
I wore them once last fall when I bought them, but it was a short hike. This month, I wore them on a 5 mile hike and the tops of my ankles were terribly swollen for days and days afterwards! I'm sad! Will have to find something else.

Rated 5 out of 5 by megamoo Great Support
I broke both ankles in my 20's and since have needed high top sneakers or hiking boots. It got very hard to find high top sneakers or boots that gave me the support AND breathability needed. Two years ago I bought two pairs of the predecessor of these hiking boots. I wore both pairs almost exclusive of any other foot ware. Eventually I used one pair for heavy duty use (yard work, mowing lawn, etc.) and used the other pair for everyday use. They are now falling apart so I have ordered two pairs again (different color schemes). These boots have the heavy support that I need, but are also made with a sneaker like exterior, which makes it lightweight and breathable. I would recommend them to anyone, whether it is for actual hiking or just everyday use!

Rated 4 out of 5 by MAP27 Great waterproof boots!
I bought these boots for our trip to Glacier National Park, and I definitely put them through their paces - I hiked lots of muddy trails with unavoidable streams and snow fields, and my feet stayed dry. The boots were lightweight and comfortable from day one, although the reason I gave them 4 stars was that they did wear on the backs of my ankles a bit. Overall though, I was really happy with how they held up.

Rated 3 out of 5 by meffitz Really High Cut
Although these are listed as being a Mid cut boot, they are really high, almost 1 inch higher than the Merrill boots I bought in the 90's. This makes them cut into my calf muscle in the back/side. I couldn't even lace them up all the way and they still dug into my leg. I am returning and hopefully the new boots will be better.
Other than that, they were roomy, came in wide sizes, which was good.

Rated 3 out of 5 by MillaJ High Quality - Not as comfortable as I hoped.
I REALLY wanted to like these boots. I have wide feet and LL Bean is one of the few places I can buy a good quality wide boot at a decent price. However, after about three weeks of regular wear, they are still rubbing my calf at the top of the boot. If I loosen the laces up then my heel slips and I have a nice blister on my heel. They are just cut too narrow at the top of the boot. I compare these boots to my old Pathfinder boots which were 100% confortable right out of the box and they come up short.

Rated 4 out of 5 by agkenne Waterproof - Saved my socks
I would have given these boots five stars, but I experienced the problem with the stiff collar on my right ankle. It wasn't debilitating, and I was able to walk without irritation.... I'm hoping that the stiffness will ease after the boots are more broken in.
I was quite impressed with the waterproofing on these boots. I had to walk through a number of rocky streambeds on this hike, and on several occasions, I stepped directly in the water. My feet stayed completely dry.
Also, I felt very surefooted when walking over rocks and roots. Overall, a very good boot.

This is my second pair of these boots. They fit great straight out of the box, they're light and comfortable and wear well. I'm a happy hiker. Thank you LLBean..

Rated 2 out of 5 by Irene70 Great boots but they bite into my shin
I wore my former pair of LL Bean hiking boots until they literally fell to pieces, and loved them. I was looking specifically for a breathable hiking boot with ankle support, and these fit the bill for those two requirements. However, as other reviewers have mentioned, the stiff collar bites into my Achilles and makes wearing these hikers really painful. I am continuing to wear them to try to break them in, as I like them aside from this problem. I hope the collar softens up over time.

Rated 2 out of 5 by DB1066 I wish these had worked out, but they didn't.
First, the good points - this is a well-made boot; I followed other reviewers' advice and ordered a half size up - I'm usually a 7, so the 7.5W fit very nicely, and were spacious enough up front for my wide feet. I also liked that the boot was a little higher than I was expecting, as other mid-cut boots that I've had have been lower than these. Unfortunately, by mile 4 of a 6.5 mile hike, the shaft of the right boot was digging into the tendon above my ankle bone - by the end, it was quite painful (other reviewers have also complained about this same thing happening). We had a 2nd day of hiking planned, and on Day 2 the same thing started happening on the left foot as well; even padding my right ankle before going out didn't help. A week later, my left ankle is still sore! So, unfortunately, these will be going back to the store, and my search for boots continues.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Leopard1 Comfy boots!
I usually order the Cresta Hikers but decided to give these a try. I received them in 3 business days. That gave me a couple hours to "break them in" before I decided they were going to be my boots-of-the-day the next day's activities. Meaning I was in them for 11 hours straight moving around on a wooden structure and climbing stairs. I took 2 days off then was in them walking in a convention center on concrete floors for 9 hours. Took 1 day off then back to the convention center for another 7 hours. Not the typical use for hiking boots but Bean boots have always served me well in whatever I put them through. I never had a problem, the boots were comfy all three days. I ordered my regular size and wear medium socks. I definitely made the right choice and am very happy.
