For some of you that mentioned no place for water bottle; the bungee cord can be used to hold a water bottle. I have used it to hold my empty coffee mug when finished drinking. This is the best backpack. I had one I used then gave it to my daughter. I now use another one. She carries probably 50 pounds of high school books in hers and just loves it. Holds up well too. SUPER

I purchased 2 of these bags 3 years ago for my boys. They have carried them jam packed with heavy books and the shoulder straps are just now starting to tear. They are extremely well made, and the only backpack I can find with the shoe/uniform compartment on the bottom. Plus, the capacity is huge! I am very frustrated this year though because I am going to have to replace their current bags with the exact same colors that they currently have! After I purchased these bags 3 years ago, you came out with a burnt orange color, and a turquoise blue that I would like to order this year, but oh no, those colors are now discontinued! I'm so frustrated, that I have looked all over the internet trying to find used ones for sale in those colors. LL Bean offers a lot of colors for girls, but boy colors are boring, and rarely change. I need to order 3 bags this year for all of my boys, spending approx. $250 for great bags in boring plain colors that we already own. One other suggestion for this bag............. add a water bottle holder on the outside for goodness sake!!!

Rated 4 out of 5 by BigDaddySr Almost great but concerned
The design, size, and accessibility are all fantastic. I use the bag for travel maybe a half dozen times a year. The hooks attaching the netting have come loose. If the bag was used continuously I would be less concerned, but that is not the case. I am sure L.L. Bean will stand behind it.

My teenage son has an inconveniently located locker at his high school. He is forced to carry all of his items with him all day long. Luckily he is a strong lad, as this backpack weighs in around 34 pounds (yes 34.) However, he is able to carry this weight around because of the ergonomic design of this backpack.
The way in which this pack functions in it's available pockets and strong zippers works well in conjunction with the padded backing resulting in a great pack.
Worth every penny, we are ordering another for his brother.

I have used this backpack for the past (5) five years from a bus ride down the boulevard to the laundry room and up and down the bike path in Lake Tahoe. Comfortable with (20) twenty pounds in the backpack on my back from a (15-20_ mile bike trek. The padding in the backpack is great and comfortable and I would recommended this pack to everyone that carries a lot of stuff.
Three(3) laptops, (2) two Toshiba (15.3) inch and one Net book (10.2) a long with supplements, clothes iPod, iShuffles, books, food and many other items.
In the pouring down rain and on a hot summer day at (6000ft) the pack held true and lived up to what is described by the manufactures.
The price is great for a students budget and the results are fantastic.
Thank you LL Bean.

I bought this backpack for my son 8 years ago (when he was still in middle school) and as of today still looks and works like i purchased this couple months ago .
The quality of this product is amazing .
When i asked him if he wants me to buy a new one for collage (i'm also king of tired of the color since i have been looking at the same thing for some many years) he told me no since the once he has is like new.

My son has had this backpack for 3 years. One of the straps is finally ready to come off, but I have zero complaints. My son has carried over 50 lbs of books and any number of binders in this backpack since he got it. The bottom compartment for "clothes" holds more textbooks. He does not have a locker so his whole school life is in this backpack. He will tell you he has never not been able to get one more thing in it as it is an endless pit of acceptance. I agree when I look at it. There is simply is NO other backpack that can meet and withstand my son's needs...let alone meet and exceed his needs for the last 3 years. Historically, he would go through 2-3 heavy duty backpacks a year, not 1 backpack in 3 years. Thanks Mom for getting it for him!! Although I have heard of people returning their LL Bean backpacks when they break, I will gladly be paying for another one because their lifetime guarantee is if you are "not satisfied." I cannot even begin to utter those words. This backpack has been a Godsend and has performed admirably under extreme duress. We will be having a memorial service for it when its replacement comes.

This backpack has been absolutely perfect for my 11 year old boy. We are half way through the school year and it looks like brand new. I fully expect he'll get several more years use out of this backpack, which is what I intended when I decided to spend so much. Pricey but worth every cent!

Rated 2 out of 5 by mommakat12 My son's ripped
my son used his as a schoolbag for 5 months but it ripped at the seam on top. He doesn't carry textbooks, only a binder and notepads. I am exchanging it so I hope it was a fluke and the next one lives up to LLBean standards.
