I bought my original coat about a year ago. The green color has gotten several compliments from coworkers. I really needed something waterproof and the Gortex works great. But, I find the one-way zipper to be an uncomfortable nuisance. It really is difficult to walk at a normal stride or get into the car. I was hoping that L.L.Bean had listened to all the other customers with the same complaint. It needs a two-way zipper! When I see the two-way zipper, I will happily buy another.

This coat does not keep you dry. I have purchased it 3 times hoping one would work. They do not. Hour in a light rain I am always soaked. I like the length it keeps me from getting rain pants. It is just useless if you want to stay dry. Sometimes I do not think Bean knows meaning of waterproof.

This coat (size petite small) is narrowest in the chest and gets wider around the waist. The bottom hem is very slightly wider than the waist, and is so narrow that it actually prevents taking a full stride. It also rests against the back of the legs so any rain would drip onto my legs rather than fall freely to the ground. Please, LLBean, make fitted coats (falling below the hip or longer) much narrower at the waist than at the chest, and much wider at the bottom hem than at the waist. They will look better, give greater freedom of movement, and make sure rain falls to the ground, rather than on the lower body!
Aquamarine color is beautiful--matches printed catalogue color, not website color (looks like powder blue on my computer).

had an early version of this coat it was
terrific coat where can it be found.
the original was a 4 star except for the velcro closures, snaps would have made it a 5 star.

Rated 3 out of 5 by korc WHY no 2-way zipper? Reason?
I have been wanting a new Gore-Tex Stowaway, long length, but I continue to stall for one reason only--the 2-way zipper has been eliminated. I would find it difficult to get into my SUV without the 2-way freedom. I look each year for a change by LLB but continue to see the same request from the faithful. Can LL Bean answer our question: Why has it not returned to the 2-way zipper? I've not seen a reason or a response from LLBean. Is here a reason that we might understand? Can you tell us the reason(s)? I am really curious after reading the requests and watching over the years for LLB to make the change.
Otherwise, I love my old coat (2009 or older); the soft, flexible fabric is breathable and keeps me totally dry in the worst weather; the length keeps my jean legs dry; the pockets are comfortably located, esp the interior upper pocket is useful; it is quite protective in cold winds. Except for the missing 2-way zipper and the velcro catching on sweaters, it is my perfect coat; it goes with me on every trip.

I have owned an older generation of this coat for almost 10 years, wearing it for everything from a nor'easter on the coast in New England to a windy beach walk in N. Cal, and it was perfect except that it has gotten a bit narrower (or I have gotten a bit wider). So I happily ordered a replacement, and found it now only has a one-way zip. That two way zip is essential for fast walking, heat release... So I have returned the coat I bought and am now hunting for a coat elsewhere. Dear LLBean, PLEASE rethink this one.

Rated 3 out of 5 by mingsushi Needs a 2-way zipper
Many reviewers have commented on the lack of a 2-way zipper on this coat so I hesitated for a long time before buying it. I finally caved in and bought it because the previous model I have worn for several years (which had the 2-way zipper) was getting ratty looking. The other reviewers are right, the 2-way zipper adds comfort. Also the fabric in this jacket is a little different and sounds crackly when you move around in it. It's an OK jacket, it IS waterproof, but given the two faults I find with it, I think it is overpriced.

As a passion, I have always studied severe t-storms, and more specifically tropical cyclones. I am an avid Hurricane Storm Chaser, even after surviving Hurricane Katrina. I have my own Business FB Page (non-profit) called US Virgin Island Tropical Hurricane Weather Station, which I run, forecast and report on tropical cyclones, while out in the storm. I always "had" my "Weather Channel Hurricane Stowaway Coat" on when I was out in the storms reporting. I can safely vouch that this Coat is totally waterproof, wind-proof! It is comfortable, easy to move in, and really gave me an added protection, mentally too, when wearing it during tropical cyclones. It was my good luck Stowaway Jacket. I had it in aqua and loved it. Never reported during storms without it. But, someone stole it from me last year, and now cannot just yet afford a new one. Hoping so soon, since it is now Hurricane Season and I need to report for our US Virgin Islanders. I cannot imagine my reporting without my Hurricane Stowaway Coat. Hopefully, I can afford to buy one soon. Still, I highly highly recommend the Coat and/or jacket to purchase. It is the best Severe Weather Coat I have owned and I have been through 21 Hurricanes/Tropical cyclones.
So, for any of you who have any doubts as to purchasing the Ladies Gor-tex Stowaway Coat, do not give it a second thought. It is well worth it and last 5 years for me, until it was stolen.
Thanks LLBean! cordelia667

Rated 2 out of 5 by DiehardDes The Velcro has got to go
I so wanted to own this stowaway jacket. However, the velcro closures are a show stopper. The velcro snags on sweaters and other clothing and ruins them. I have ruined to many clothes with jackets that have velcro closures. No more. I so hope LL Bean starts using snaps instead of velcro so I can own one of these jackets.

I own a couple of Gore Tex jacket and coat from LLB. I love the light weight.I got a special day offer so I pick this rain coat. I am normally petite size Large but this one I received is tight. I missed the two way zipper also. Sorry, it is going back.
