A few years I purchased a pair of Winter Walker snowshoes from LL Bean. I ordered them for use in West Virginia on/around a piece of property we purchased in 2005.
Due to various reasons, we were not able to use the snowshoes until Jan. 2014 when we visited WV.
For a few years, the snowshoes sat in the corner of our infrequently used living room, still in their protective plastic packaging then we took the still packaged snowshoes with us on our recent WV vacation. On Jan 7th, Day 3 of our vacation, we removed the plastic packaging from the pair of snowshoes and made the following observations: the Winter Walker 26 shoes had numerous defects that can best be described as complete failure of several/most of the plastic tabs which wrap around the aluminum frame on both shoes. Also, one of the rivets attaching the tabs to the frame had popped loose on one shoe. Again, important to note is that the shoes had never been used. We have always been very happy with LL Bean quality and performance on all of the numerous items we've ordered over the years and were very surprised with this situation.

I have owned a pair of Winter Walker snowshoes for several years. I have always been satisfied with them, despite having to repair rivets on the bindings now and then. I recently purchased a new 36" pair to replace the old 30" pair. The design is excellent for "recreational" snowshoes. They are comfortably narrow, seemingly durable, and lightweight. The biggest improvement is the bindings. The old rivets have been replaced with stronger bolts. The buckles are easy to fasten and adjust. The self centering bar makes them foolproof. Good snowshoe for the price.

Rated 3 out of 5áby Gus0 A little narrow and heavy.
If I had bought a smaller size I would have give then 4 stars. I bought the 36 inch shoes. They have aluminum crampons which is good. There is no reason to use steel. They are narrower than I expected which reduces the size of the deck and therefore the weight they can carry in fluffy snow. They are heavy, 5 lbs. 10 ounces per pair for the 36 inch model. Most of the binding straps appear to be nylon. This is only a problem if they become wet and freeze to be too thick to work with the buckles. The bindings are too small for a large snow shoe assuming that bigger people tend to buy bigger snowshoes. I tried the bindings with size 13 uninsulated hiking boots and they worked, but it was a tight fit. It wouldn't surprise me if many size 12 and 13 insulated boots were to big to fit the bindings.

I've had my Winter Walkers for too many years to remember, and I've had only one problem A couple of years ago, one of the rivets vanished. I took the snowshoe back to Bean's and a cheerful fellow fixed it in minutes. As good as new. These snowshoes make a Maine winter wonderful! (I wear Bean's winter sneakers with the snowshoes: perfect!)

I have read some of the other reviews and found one of them very surprising - my family owns 4 pairs of these and we have had them for over 2 seasons with out any problems at all. I remember how excited my girls were when they opened them at Christmas - they were the first items they wanted to use that day. Made my day that they went for these and not the video games. Although we are completely recreational users - these "shoes" were very easy to use and they worked the way you would expect them to work - we used them on fluffy snow and on packed snow, I guess you cant ask for much more than that. I would recommend this product.

This was my first purchase of an LL Bean product....I have used them most of this season already and have been pleasantly surprised at how much better they work for me than my previous snowshoes. They have been great on mostly flat terrain...the best feature for me is the heal cup that keeps my foot securely in place....always disliked how my shoe slipped around with other shoes. They are lightweight, hard to tell sometimes if I was even wearing snowshoes. I would recommend these snowshoes to anyone.

I have used these shoes this winter averaging 3-4 mile walks on flat to rolling terrain. They are light, very easy to put on and off, stable and have perfpormed extremely well in snow as deep as 12 inches so far.

My husband and I have been LL Bean shoppers for many years because of the wonderful products and service we have received. We recently each bought a pair of winter walkers, fitted to our size by LL Bean sales staff. My husband's cracked on the first time out, mine on the fourth time out. We were using them only on a pond and a groomed snowmobile trail. We do appreciate LL trying to put out there a product that is affordable but with this one, the quality just isn't there. We have both returned our walkers and because we both had so much fun using them we have replaced with a higher level snowshoe still from LL Bean.
