Rated 1 out of 5 by akbear Quality issue with screw
I purchased two of these for my children. Even using the correct screwdriver, the screw stripped with one turn on both of them.

Rated 1 out of 5 by Kkubina Great idea but faulty production
My kid had the same problem as many others, couldn't even use it because the screw stripped before we could even put the batteries in. Fortunately LL Bean exchanged it no problem, but it seems like with so many people having the same issue it's time to change materials or design.

Rated 1 out of 5 by NorthwestAdventurer Do not buy this headlamp
We bought this for our son. The battery case is held closed with a small philips screw. When trying to open it for the first time, the metal screw just stripped! We were using the correct sized screwdriver but the metal is too soft. We never could even open the battery case. Our son was very disappointed. When I looked again at the reviews for this product, 9 of 45 reviewers had similar problems with the screw. In theory a good idea but the cheap materials make this a complete failure.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Jbrownbear Great for young child
This was part two of the 'exploring' Christmas gift set for my Granddaughter and when we got it all set and fitted to her head she was off and traveling throughout the house into all the rooms that did not have a light on. She is so excited to explore! This headlite fits her small head very well and is easily adjustable.

The battery goes in fine with the correct screw driver. Even for me. I am not the best at fixing stuff. Grandkids loved these.

Rated 1 out of 5 by rednepgirl Can't open it
I have yet to be able to unscrew the lamp in order to install the batteries. Appears that even though I used a #1 Phillips screwdriver, as instructed, that isn't good enough....
It's going back.

Rated 1 out of 5 by Max2004 Christmas gift fail x 3
I bought these for our son and two nephews for Christmas. My husband was unable to unscrew the battery compartment without completely stripping the screw. This item will be going back, and I am embarrassed to have given such a poor gift.

Rated 5 out of 5 by DiVasc Great Gift
We ordered 5 Trailblazer Jr. Headlamps for 5 grandchildren ranging in ages from 2 1/2 to 8 1/2 years old. The headlamps are adjustable to fit these ages and provides good lighting for the children. We assembled the headlamps before wrapping them up for gifts. We needed a very small Phillips screwdriver to open the battery compartment which worked fine. All five headlamps are working and the children are thrilled to wear and operate them. Great gift.

Rated 1 out of 5 by mycom DO NOT BUY! The screw is impossible to open
I made the mistake of ignoring the negative comments about the difficulty in opening the battery compartment. I used the Philips #1 screwdriver as per the manual...but was still not able to open the battery compartment.
The problem is with the bad quality of the screw...as you turn the soft screw head is chipped away and instead of a "+" groove you are left with a smooth "o". After this there's no way to turn the screw.
I had to return this...to the disappointment of my 5 year old.
LLBean should stop selling this item!!
