I recently bought this kayak during L.L.Bean's sale and so far I am loving it! I am a woman without a ton of upper body strength and wanted something that I could easily store in the back of my car. In pieces, this is just the right weight for me as I can easily move them from my house to my car and from my car to a local lake. Since I bought my kayak at the store, they showed me how to put it together so I didn't have any issues, but I know there are several YouTube videos for those that have it shipped to them. The kayak itself maneuvers very well in the water and the adjustments are easy to make. I am also looking forward to getting the middle piece to make it into a tandem later this summer for guests who come to visit. This kayak is very well made and I anticipate it lasting a long time, so I would highly recommend it to anyone looking for more ease and convenience in a kayak without sacrificing quality.

120 pound 60+yr old lady.
Can load, unload and put together myself in a couple of minutes.
Both pieces fit in my Honda Fit.
i've had it for a wk and taken it out 4 times on both rivers and lakes.
Yesterday I paddled 6 miles RT on the James river in Powhatan VA.
I can go kayaking all over VA with this design.
LOVE the versatility.

The 65 point north modular kayak is perfect for me and I am very happy I bought it.. I can transport easily in my CRV, it is easy to put together and take apart, tracks fine, no leaking and looks cool. Perfect for someone who doesn't want to hoist a kayak on the top of their car. I am FEMALE, 5'2 and weight 120lbs and I am able to handle it all myself. Thanks LL Bean!

Originally I was debating purchasing a tandem or one person recreational kayak, mostly to allow friends and/or pets to join the flat water and slow river fun. The other recreational kayak has no storage and requires flotation bags, something I wouldn't purchase again. I stumbled across the Point 65N modular concept and was skeptical, though the reviews were positive. I purchased the tandem but it is mostly used in solo mode. It is quite durable too, having slid off the back of my pickup onto asphalt unscathed.
Pros: modular design: allows you to add or subtract multiple cockpits in seconds, store inside most vehicles or dwellings, reduce carry weight as each section is sub 25lb.s, eliminate the need for a roof rack and it's expense, and necessary upper body strength to hoist it up there, roomy cockpit with a moderately padded seat and padded thigh braces, bulkheads that allow for moderate storage, forward deck lines, integrated comfortable carry handles, very stable. Used fequently and still looks and works like new.
Cons: few...no instructions what so ever, though the YouTube videos are fairly good, the rudder system lines seem to need too many adjustments..a skeg would be a better solution, and if the rudder is midline it acts like a partial skeg, no rear deck lines, tends to flex a bit in fore and aft waves.
Conclusion: a unique and enjoyable kayak that will allow more people to enjoy kayaking that have been fustrateded by traditional transport and storage issues.

I am a 57 year old woman who loves to be outside. I've hiked, biked, and walked more miles than many. I've wanted to add kayaking to my resume, but I don't have the upper body strength to hoist a boat onto the top of my car. And I wasn't sure if I wanted a solo or tandem kayak. This is the perfect solution! All three sections fit into the back of my Honda CRV, with the back seats down. After really just one or two tries at putting it together and taking it apart, it really is as easy as the video shows it to be. I load up the car, drive nine miles to my favorite mountain lake, and I'm on the water in no time. The kayak glides through the water very easily. The rudders are nice, but it does fine without them. I've soloed with the front and back sections, and tandemed with all three with my border collie in the front and me in the back. We both love it!

I bought this kayak in June and have used it 2-3 times a week throughout the summer. It assembles and comes apart easily and fits beautifully in the back of my Kia Sorrento, with plenty of extra room for other gear. I am a small woman and would not be able to put a kayak on the roof by myself, so this kayak is a great solution. It's very stable in moderate wind and waves. The cupholders and roomy cargo areas are a bonus. I am not an experienced paddler, but I highly recommend this kayak for getting out on the water.

This kayak fits in my Hyundai Access!!! (small 2-door hatchback). With the back seats folded down, and the passenger seat a bit forward, I can fit the two pieces in the back. This way, I can easily transport it, or leave it in my car while at work and use it on the way home.
It is easy to put together and take apart - the second time. Took a bit to figure out how to take it apart the first time.
In the water, it is fine. It is less 'aero-dynamic' than my other kayak, so doesn't glide as well. However, being able to put it in my car outweighs this difference.
The cup holders are great for water, sunscreen, or sunglasses case. The sealed compartments will hold plenty of stuff.

by KansasKayaker Martini 2 person modular kayak
We bought this about a month ago after waiting 4 months to get a great price :-).
I am so happy I convinced my husband to do this with me. I'm a transplanted New Englander, living in Kansas and married to a native, we're in our fifties. We have very large man made lakes, with heavy winds here. After speaking with Beans kayak expert we made a decision for a sit in-with whisper paddles. SO happy we did. Last weekend we were in 20 mph winds and 18" waves, and had an absolute blast! No problems whatsoever!
The pieces fit together but sometimes can be frustrating, so we just take a deep breathe and viola! All three pieces fit into my Scion XB (toaster) with the back seat down no problem. We tried regular life jackets, but found the shorter one with mesh worked better. We made a wish list for the next build of kayaks.. drink holders in the FRONT of the seat (or even side), paddle clips, and high back seats. Build on this kayak is sturdy and safe... we feel very comfortable.

When we ordered two tandem Point 65N kayaks, we were uncertain how transporting the kayaks to the lake was going to work for us.
We have two older Subaru Outbacks (2000 and 2003). We are able to mount 2 solo kayaks (1 bow and 1 stern each) on the roof rack of one car with the help of two Thule rooftop kayak carriers. With the back seat completely down, we are able to fit both center sections into the back of the car. So, we are able to transport two, tandem Point 65N kayaks in one car, leaving room for a driver and one passenger in the car. For our family, the other two people just take a different car loaded with the paddles, life vests and other needed accessories.
When only three of us are going kayaking, we are able to fit everything, including people into one car. Again, two boats are put on the roof rack in the solo configuration. One center piece then fits into the back of the car with the 2/3 side of the back seat folded down. Paddles, life vests and other accessories manage somehow to fit in the car as well. This leaves room for the driver and two passengers in the car.
Others have described what they think of these kayaks. Hopefully this will help you understand that with these boats, and an older Subaru Outback or similarly sized car, three people can go kayaking for the day. If four people need to go, and the kayaks will be transported with an older Outback or similar vehicle, a second car will be needed to transport two of the people.

Rated 5 out of 5 by FriscoTXKayaker Perfect For Us
Ordered both the tandem and solo edition of the Point 65N sit-in Kayaks. LLBean showed back ordered until 6/4 but they beat that date and the kayaks (In five boxes) arrived the Friday before Memorial Day (May 25).
This product is fabulous and fits our family perfectly. The kayaks go together very easily and the versatility is amazing. Since there are three of us Mon, Dad, Daughter (12 yr old) we have the flexibility to have our daughter with us or to go out just Mom and Dad. All five pieces (2 fronts, 2 backs, 1 middle) fit in the back of our Honda Odyssey - the fit is snug, but they all fit. We used the kayaks on Lake Grapevine in Dallas and had a blast. The kayaks handled very well in the water, were easy to maneuver, comfortable and looked good. This is an exceptional recreational kayak!
