Rated 5 out of 5 by southerncountryboy Best Sweater Manufactured
LLBean's Shetland Wool Crewneck is the best sweater manufactured. Indeed, this traditional style sweater has become hard to find. It has neither added border colors nor patches; narrowed ribbing nor loose collar; a silky texture; nor added nylon like a few other brands. Bean hasn't fallen for these unnecessary changes to this state-of-the-art sweater. I recommend it for regular guys; especially the darker colors.

I would find life much less comfortable without LLBean's Shetland sweaters. I am a woman, 5'5", 130 lbs. who hates to hand wash clothes. I buy a man's small or medium and wash them. They start a bit too large but still wearable, and with two or three machine washings get down to my size, slightly felted, which makes them warmer and, I think, more durable. I am about to order a new one; my rave review is based on 1 that was purchased 2 years ago and 2 that were purchased 3 years ago and 1 that was purchased 6 years ago. And I've been buying them for years. No, they don't last forever, especially with the hard use and inappropriate care I give them, but they are well worth the money which, in any case, isn't expensive for a Shetland wool sweater. To shrink to woman's size using a washing machine, use warm water only if you want a lot of shrinkage; use a few minutes low dryer then take them out., check size, and air dry. When they are close to the final size you want, use very cool water, no dryer or only a little no heat time in the dryer, and stretch by hand before air drying, checking once or twice, giving them an extra gentle stretch as needed before sweater is completely dry. It has always worked for me. Good luck!

Received my Shetland Wool Sweater in Stone Blue today and am very happy with it. The medium fits perfectly. It is of medium weight, soft, and very comfortable. Seems like good quality. A really nice sweater!

Rated 5 out of 5 by tippy24 comfortable and great fit
Purchased this sweater in navy blue. Might be the best sweater that I have purchased in the past 30 years. The material is quite comfortable and attractive. No itching or pulling, like in some sweaters. The navy blue makes me look slimmer. Would definitely purchase a second one in another color.

The shetlands have been hit or miss in the last few years. Several seasons back, the black coffee was a nice color but insubstantial, the black model of 2013 was off somehow, scratchy, bulky, boxy. This year tried the green donegal and was pleasantly surprised. NIce color and feel, somewhat improved fit. Not perfect, as a 6 foot tall man weighing in at 150, the medium is almost lengthy enough while still considerably wider than necessary, but the small is going to be too short and the large enormous. Would purchase more if offered in more adventurous colors, would welcome the return of saddle shoulders, but a good value for the money this year. Not as heavy/warm as the ragg wool sweater, not too scratchy, wore once with only a t-shirt.

Rated 5 out of 5 by TrueBean This sweater makes me feel like a Bean Man
This hearty sweater feels and fits as described. Soft and cozy, yet durable and versatile. Great for an evening with friends, raking up autumn leaves in the yard, or just for every day comfort. And best of all, it makes me feel like a Bean Man. What's a Bean Man, you may ask? A Bean Man is rugged and adventurous, sophisticated and worldly, and he's always up for anything that life might throw his way. He's the salt of the earth, he's the modern man, and he sets the standard. Be the man you've always admired when you wear the Shetland Wool Sweater.

Today I am buying a third one of these sweaters. I am a 138 lb woman and I love shetland wool sweaters, which are becoming very hard to find. I get a small and it fits fine. Yes, the sleeves are very long, since it is a men's sweater, but I have no problem with that. These are tough, not scratchy tough, work oriented tough sweaters. I do no end of tractor work and all barn work, except handling hay, in them.. I find the color selection dismal, but boy did I jump for it when you offered the purple one. The spruce green is sort of ok. I guess men are supposed to like drab colors.

Bought 2 last year, love them, and am buying 2 more this year (different colors) M fits female 5'6", 140 lbs. Warmth is paramount to fashion in the northern climes. A great value for the price!

Rated 4 out of 5 by TallNewEnglander Great value, warm sweater. Cut is a little boxy
Happy with the sweater, it seems like good quality and a good deal compared to other lambswool sweaters I own that were over $100. It's very warm and itchy/scratchy as to be expected from lambswool. The only question is how durable this sweater will be.
Only downside is I wish it was available in "tall". I was between L and XL but needed to get the XL for the extra length. Had to get it tailored to remove some of the boxiness. LL Bean is getting better/more modern with their fit but this was still a tad boxy. I would grab one in another color if I didn't have to spend an extra $20 to get it tailored. I'd definitely recommend this sweater to people who don't need a "tall".

A very nice alternative to more expensive Shetlands. Warm and well-made. Would prefer a saddle shoulder and some additional color options, but for the price this sweater is tough to beat.
