Rated 5 out of 5 by lovellbeanatlot Classic Style
This is a beautiful coat! My husband gifted me with this style L. L. Bean coat in camel about 16 years ago. I still have the coat, and although the finish looks a little worn, I am still wearing it as one of my everyday coats. When I saw this coat on sale I was eager to order it, and I have not been disappointed. Some of the other reviews made me hesitant, but I have not found a problem with the fit. The coat is a comfortable fit, and a classic style. It is very warm without being "heavy", and the red is a rich, warm color. This is a coat that will never go out of style. Thank you again L.L. Bean. You never disappoint.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Dbclovesllbean Another awesome two a day special deal
I check daily the two a day to see if I like the deal of the day. A few weeks ago, this coat was on sale and I've been looking for a red coat. read the reviews and was concerned it would not fit. being a 42DDD coats are hard to fit let alone shopping online. I did end up going to a smaller size after it came in the mail. Smooth exchange and love my new red coat. Past week in NC we had our first very cold day or two which we do not see very often, this coat kept me warm as I took my son to school. Advice maybe go down a size, felt it ran a bit bigger. Well made and stylish.

Rated 5 out of 5 by beangirlinseoul A good quality, practical winter coat
I love the plum color and the quality of fabric. I am 5'1'' and 120 lbs with a broad shoulder. I usually wear XS or XS petite from LLB, but ordered 6 petite for this coat to have layers under it. The sleeve length is perfect for me. The opening is just right, not too low.
Compared to my bean pea coat 6P that I purchased in 07-08 winter, this one is roomier with larger arm holes. It is not trim fitting. I can wear a skinny jacket under it. I like it because I can wear this coat with layers during a severe winter in Korea. It is roomy but still has a shape. I don't find any strange fitting issue.

Rated 3 out of 5 by MeowMomma Boxy, sleeves too long
I'm a pretty standard Misses Size 12. I ordered the Royal Plum Size 12. The color was a nice dark plum like I wanted and the fabric felt nice. Seemed like it would be warm. But, I have to agree with the other reviewers: it is boxy through the mid-section; the tab ornamentation on the sleeve looks funny because it starts in the middle of the sleeve, not at a seam like such a tab would normally start (it is like a 1/2 tab); and the sleeves were too long. I have average arms, neither long nor short; the sleeve fell well over my knuckles--not close to the correct place. If I were to take it to a tailor to shorten by an inch or so, that funky tab would also have to be relocated, so perhaps it was attached too low as well. It's too bad, this coat just misses the mark of a great garment. I have looked for a woolen coat for a while and it seems the classic wool winter coat is a thing of the past. LL Bean could corner the market with some better tailoring. I'm not talking about a tight nipped in waist, that's for teens. I'm talking about a graceful curve inward in the midsection. This style coat has been made for decades--pull out an old pattern. I am sure you get samples before you order; let some of you staff try it on and offer input. This coat is going back. I gave it 3 stars because the fabric is very nice and it felt like it would be very warm. Loved the color.

Rated 4 out of 5 by Cropsey Not True to Size
Beautiful fabric and color, but the sizing wasn't good. I wear a 14 and I can hardly button the coat. I keep the buttons open and use a warm scarf instead.
I don't know how a 16 would have fit.

Rated 4 out of 5 by AverageJane Not as ill-fitting as others would have you think!
I'm 5'5", 158 lbs, broad shouldered, large chested (34D). I always wear size M in LLBean shirts and sweaters, so I ordered the size 12, since M is 10-12, and I usually need a bit of extra room for my chest. The 12 fits perfectly, and the 14 was definitely too big.
Unlike other reviewers, I find that the sleeve length is perfect, and the fit is true to size. Coats are always snug across the shoulders/upper arms for me, but this one still lets me get a sweater underneath.
I agree that this coat is NOT tapered much through the waist, so if you really like a nipped-in waist, this is not the coat for you. I think LLBean could improve this coat a lot just by trading out the non-functional sleeve detail for an adjustable belt across the back of the coat for shaping the waist more.
The on-seam pockets do pooch out a bit, but unless you're really sensitive about added bulk at the waist, I don't see them as a problem.
Bottom line, I like this coat. I got it on sale (the vintage red, which is discontinued) for $99 and I think it's a great buy for that price. But with the few minor issues it has, and the overall look it gives, I don't think it's worth $229.

Rated 5 out of 5 by LLBEANGURL Favorite Coat Ever
I bought this coat 2 years ago in the beautiful coffee color which you no longer have, but this year I wanted it in black for a little more dressy look. The coffee one has been my go-to coat for 2 years and will be again this year. It looks wonderful, lovely wool, lovely color, lovely fit. I found the fit to be perfect, not bulky like some of the others said it was, in fact I think I look quite trim in it. I will get the black this year and next year, who knows? Loden? I would recommend this coat for anyone who wants to look great in cold temperatures like we have up here in northeast Washington winters.

Rated 5 out of 5 by TexanExpat WARM winter suit of armor
I was in the market to replace my beloved Beans peacoat --and needed something a bit longer to defend me from bitter Poughkeepsie winters. This coat will more than fill the bill. The wool is dense and immensely warm. The styling is classy, and I encountered none of the bulkiness complained of in other reviews. Those other comments concerned me, as I'm short (5'2"), so such design flaws would loom even larger. This is a **great** coat, in every sense of the word, and this displaced Texan looks forward to weathering many winters with its assistance.

Rated 4 out of 5 by CalebsMom A Classic That Fits Well
I got this coat in the plum color. I like the classic styling. The coat falls very nicely on me, with or without a sweater underneath. Unlike some of the other reviewers, I do not notice any problem in the waist area. It looks and feels perfect to me. The only downside is most of my other fine wool coats have an inside pocket, but this one does not.

Rated 2 out of 5 by Scooners Awkward Fit
This coat looks fabulous in the pictures, so I decided to ignore the reviews about the bulky midsection and try it. The reviews are correct. The coat is VERY bulky in the midsection and also large overall. I am 5'7" 122lbs and looked pregnant in the size 4, which according to the sizing should be too small for me. The arms are long, which is fine, but they are bulky also. They definitely can take more than a sweater. The flap pockets just add to the overall thickness of the midsection. LLBean would do this coat a GREAT favor by slimming up the midsection, getting rid of the flap pockets and replacing them with open slits, and sizing it more femininely and accurately overall. The material and feel is beautiful, which is why I rated this coat as "Fair" instead of "Poor". What a waste. Back it goes.
