I bought two of these knives for Christmas one for my son and one for me. I gave it five stars due to LLBeans quality, I like their products. Although I haven't used this in the field yet, the knife feels good and has a quality feel. I used my stone and put a razor sharp edge on both. I hope he is OK about me playing with his gift......

I bought one of these knives in the early 1970's for $6! Now they want $50. WoW, and the govt. says we don's have inflation. Anyway, it was a great knife but after 35 years it got accidently thrown in the garbage after I was cutting chickens with it. It is easy to sharpen because it is high carbon. All high carbon knives have a patina because they aren't stainless. I replaced my lost knife with a Trout Knife in stainless and it is also a fine knife but I prefer the high carbon so I am ordering a new one. Thanks LL Bean for bringing back a classic. You could go back to $6.00 though.

Used my "Trout" knife to prepare two squirrels for the pot this morning. Easily skinned, field dressed and cut up the meat for a breakfast of fried squirrel, biscuits and gravy.
The handle is a comfortable size and the carbon steel blade which will darken with use, is easy to sharpen for the chore at hand. Great for filleting Blue gill and Crappie as well as small game and birds.

A good belt knife, not only for trout but for camp chores and feasability in hunting.
Expected a little more on the handle since it is a commerative, (bigger lettering or design).
I had one like this in the late 60's (not a Bean) and had it for years before laying aside.
For everyday type of use and looks this is a good knife.

Purchased the knife for heavy cutting. Blade is stiff enough for cutting that requires more blade strength than a fillet knife can provide. Blade was short enough so that I didn't feel like I was working on a side of beef.

Very disappointing item. The knife is so small its like a paring knife. It doesn't even fit in the sheath. The sheath is for a 6 inch blade this is at best a 4 inch blade.

Many decades ago I acquired one of the original trout knives. Many years
later I ordered another to find that it
was no longer available. On seeing the ad for the 100th Anniversary Trout Knife I immediately ordered for myself and for a gift. This is a must
have for the outdoorsman or for the
kitchen. This is the original high carbon (not stainless steel) knife that
is highly prized but hard to find.

I like this one Trout knife. It is easier to cut trout and leather case.
