I was so happy to put these skates on and feel the softness at the shin. However, as soon as I put weight on my feet, I realized they are too narrow. There is plenty of room in the toe box but they are narrow just behind the toes so both feet felt like they were being crushed. It's not something that felt like it would go away with "breaking in". I am returning them and I'm very sad they don't come in a wide. I had such high hopes.

Rated 5 out of 5 by runnergirlc Very comfortable
I have been renting skates at the local rink and they are sooo uncomfortable. These are like wearing comfy shoes. They are well padded and have support where you need it. I did pay to have them sharpened before I used them, so I can't answer the question if they come pre-sharpened.
I gave it 5 stars because I can't think of anything I would improve. But I am a very casual skater, only 3-4 times/year. So I do not have a lot of experience on what excellent could be. But in my mind these are excellent.

I just used these for the first time today. They were supportive like a skate should be but more comfortable and warmer. They were also easier to get on than traditional skates. I did have the blades sharpened before I used them. I haven't skated since high school (only a few years ago :) ) and I actually had fun this afternoon at the local rink.

Rated 4 out of 5 by BSam get them re-sharpened
I bought these last year, to replace typical classic white uncomfortable figure skates .
I could not find the balance point on them (and I inline skate as well as ice skate) and felt very teetery,
nor did I get good "purchase"/grip with them on the ice.
So, the solution was to take them to a shop and have them sharpened, as well as to skate with the upper laces partially loosened.
The sharpening was a huge improvement, and the loosened upper laces allowed me to press more forward, instead of being on my heels (like a stiff ski boot with shin bang).
Once I got used to them, they are a big step up in comfort.

Order down as you normally would with ice skates. I wear an 8.5 shoe and have wide feet. The LL Bean rep told me I should order the 9. When it came, I had room in the skate even before I realized the toe was still stuffed with tissue paper. I re ordered, this time the 8 and found that I could lift my heel inside the skate. Today, I skated for an hour wearing a thin sock in the size 7. I returned the 8 and 9 on my way to the rink.
