Rated 4 out of 5 by Robsan Very comfortable and waterproof
I live in Michigan and I have been outdoors for 2 hours shoveling snow in 18 F temperature and I have warm and dry comfortable feet - I'm impressed. Great boots.I rated them 4 stars only because I've only owned them for a month.

Hiked in these boots for the first time last November here in Maine. About 2" of wet snow and slush on the ground. After an hour, I noticed the leather on the top of each boot was water stained. Completed my hike, removed these boots and found the sock on top off each foot wet. After examining the inside of the boot, I noticed the toe was wet in the boot as well. Now, I have Merrell snow boots, low cut day hikers and sandals, so I love the product! Found this boot at Bean and thought I had found the perfect waterproof boot I needed for both crosstraining and snowshoeing in the winter. Dissappointed to say the least! Maybe the Chinese put the boot together wrong? Taking these back to Freeport this weekend and will again be looking for a waterproof boot!! Love LL Bean!!

Rated 4 out of 5 by likedaisies so far so good!
Bought the boots for my husband for Christmas. So far he's enjoyed them casually and no complaints about the fit. My husband is law enforcement in a forest and likes to hike. If they weren't comfortable he would have said something by now. They are a good color and very nice build for hiking . Loved the purchase, it was worth it.

Needed new boots,, as both soles on my old ones had cracked clean thru, and these were the ones I thought most likely to be satisfactory and use my $10 coupons from LLB.
I'm not enthused with the web straps for the laces below the top two hooks, but they work OK. (I tend to grab the laces and pull them out of the straps if I'm not careful.) They seem a bit stiff from the outside, but they are comfortable, fit well, and keep the wet out when I walk in wet grass (have not yet walked thru puddles or high water--that's coming.)
So far, quite satisfied with them.

I'm a novice to hiking, and never used hiking boots. In preparation for an upcoming long hiking trip (first in my life), I was recommended to use L.L. Bean as a reliable source. Against my natural instinct to avoid on-line purchasing of shoes, I took a chance and bought those Men's Merrell Phaser Peak Waterproof Boots. To my BIG surprise, the shoes fit perfectly, were easy to put on, and felt like specially made for me. As recommended, I spent time braking the boots in by taking long walks, and even use them in gym sessions. In short, no blisters, comfortable, and a good ankle support. An excellent buy.

Rated 5 out of 5 by WillInRhodey Great boots
I bought these a few weeks before my first climb (North Twin Mountain in the White Mountains in New Hampshire), and they didn't require much breaking in to be comfortable. After a couple of short practice hikes and a few days of normal walking activity, I barely noticed I had them on.
On the climb they supported my ankles very well. I wore high wool socks, and the combination kept my feet very comfortable despite the heat of the day and the mud & water we went through (as the trail was often split by a trickle of water).
I wear Merrells -- Chameleon4 Stretch Hiking Low -- as shoes about half the time, and these boots are just as comfortable as the shoes.
Very pleased with the purchase. I hope they last a long time!

Received my boots about two weeks before the trip to the Canadian Rockies and they fit like a glove as all my Merrell's have and i did get several days of tromping around to get them somewhat broke in. I thought they did a good job on wet rocks, wading through streams and even our first day was a strenuous hike of 11 miles right up to the glacier field above tree line over rocks and deadfall. No problems! however on the second day the insole started to breakdown and the hard plastic primary inner sole, which has hundreds of little bumps, i guess to keep the removable insole from slipping began to become abrasive even through my wool socks. i went through another day of a short hike before i figured out it was not my feet but an insole issue and quickly changed out the insole for a New Balance insole,,,,problem solved. Boots are great the insoles are pathetic.

Rated 4 out of 5 by Ecowarrior Great fit so far
I bought these boots to replace Asolo boots I wore last year on the Appalachian Trail. So far these boots are more comfortable and offer a better fit. But the Trail is the test and I will continue my trek on the AT in a couple of weeks, hiking the remaining 457 miles to Mt. Kahtadin. After that trip, I will revisit this page and update this comment on how well these boots perform in real trail conditions: rain, mud, dry, slippery, and rocky.

My husband bought a pair of these through you years ago and he absolutely loved them. Sadly when he was ready for another pair you no longer were carrying them and he had to find them elsewhere. These are the best hikers he's ever had and he has bought 5 pairs over the years, 2 of which climbed Katahdin and crossed the knife edge. He finds them perfectly comfortable and supportive even with his flat feet. He wears them everyday to work where he is on his feet all day as an electrician. He has recommended them to many friends. Every now and again he meets someone who has the same hikers and they all say they love them and would buy no other hikers.
What a treat it was to see that you carry them again. He has already bought a new pair from you!

I thought the boots were a bit too stiff and narrow when I first got them. But now that I've worn them, they have both softened up (appropriately) and formed to my feet. I find they are a bit longish for size, but perhaps that is so toes don't squish on the downhill. I ordered a 10 b/c that's my size in most shoes, and I think I'm still happy with that size. If you want a real "performance fit" (I'm not sure that's appropriate with a hiking boot anyway), you might want to try sizing down 1/2 a size.
Supportive, structured, much more boot than the other offerings in Bean's similar line.
