These boots are made of high quality materials and well put together. Unfortunately, the design of the heel / ankle area in the shape of a funnel, caused my heel to left off the bottom of the shoe's heel area when walking. This in turn, caused me to try to walk differently to compensate. Not a good idea. If this area of the boot could be re-designed to eliminate the lifting of the heel / ankle, the boot would be perfect!

Rated 4 out of 5 by BiggerThanBigSwede Excelling at what they were intended for...
Had a pair of lightweight pacs that finally wore out, and wanted something warm and easy to get on and off... these looked like they would fit the bill!
Was concerned about some of the comments about the compression of the lining, but that hasn't been a problem. I use these for running to the store, going to work on stormy days, shoveling the walk and driveway, and recently I even wore them to go snowshoeing--wearing gaiters over them kept them from even feeling a little slippage in the heel.
My only complaint is that in their effort to make them extremely easy to get on and off, the shaft of the boot was cut with to steep of a slope to the top rear edge of the boot. It exposes too much of the heel to the shaft, and that does two things: 1) Depending on the type of sox you're wearing, it can feel like you're wearing clogs; 2) I spend too much time trying to get boot-cut jeans over the top of the boots (and by the way, the jeans then put frontward pressure on the boot shaft to make it less prone to slip).
Otherwise, LOVE 'EM!

Rated 5 out of 5 by PinkJIW Perfect for their intended use
I've been buying and wearing Bean boots for a long time. Their boots never disappoint. I still have the original Maine Hunting shoe boots that I bought in the tallest height available(16" inches I believe) with dark brown uppers almost 30 years ago. Anyhow, in my opinion, these are to slip on in the winter to take out the garbage, get something out of the car, check the mail, grab some firewood, etc. You get the point. They are a loose fit in the heel for easy on/off. Bean's sizing recommendations are spot on. Everyone who rates them negatively seems to want to go hiking in them. Buy any of the lace up models for that. These are LOUNGERS. I use them everyday in our wet, rainy falls and snowy winters. They are indispensable.

Purchased for my husband for Christmas. Came after, but not complaining. I was really happy to find a boot that came in a wide width. These are by no means a wide boot. Sorry to have to return them. They would have been perfect.

I always wanted a pair of these boots and my wonderful mother in law was kind enough to buy me a pair for christmas. I normally wear a size 11 medium to wide width boot and shoe and so she bought these in size 11 wide. Initial impression was that the boots are beautifully made with plush lining and rich leather. However placing them on my feet I had the following sizing issues:
1) The toe box was somewhat ridiculously tight and very short from sole to upper (squeezed my metatarsals), even without socks. And this is in a wide width! I have several other pairs of boots that are regular width that have wider toe boxes. I read reviews online that they may take a few hours to break in a bit, but I have no faith that the thick rubber would ever loosen up enough to be comfy with socks on.
2) The heel, on the other hand, was a mile wide. My heel moved around while walking. Walking any distance would pull your socks off your feet, or rub your heels raw, because the heels move up and down so much on your feet and there is a stitched seam on the heel where the leather meets the rubber. I suspect the heel issue is just the design of the shoe, and they allowed extra heel room so you can wiggle into the boots without having to reach down. However, they were a bit too "generous" with the heel room.
3) The length of the footbed, too, was several inches longer than any other 11 I've ever had on. I could fit my entire hand behind my heel. I thought about exchanging them for a size 10 wide, but i'm concerned the toes would be even smaller. I am instead going to try to exchange them for the lace up shearling boots as I love the construction but I think I'd rather have the wonderful shearling lining in a boot I could wear somewhere without hurting my feet. I really wanted boots I could step into to walk my dogs or take out the trash in the snow, but instead I got boots I can step into but wouldn't want to walk anywhere in. I'm disappointed these aren't more versatile, especially for the price, but these would probably be ok if I just wanted boots to step outside and back in with.

My husband is normally a straight 9 shoe/boot. The size 9 was too small (but heel lifted out because length was longer than usual. The size 10 was too big all over.
The quality of the boot is beautiful; wish they had fit him!

Rated 5 out of 5 by JPinCT My go-to winter storm boot.
Indestructible for over a decade now. Just enough traction and feel when walking in tough winter nonsense. Easy enough to get on and off in and out of the house, and for slipping off when I get to the office (where there's often more shoveling to pitch in on) and swap for shoes.
The bit about a somewhat small fit is when you wear thick socks it's a bit snug - but if I'd remember to just wear normal socks that would stop. Living in the slushier part of CT now the rubber bottoms really earn their keep. I'd buy another pair if these would just wear out, but I don't see it happening any time soon.

Rated 5 out of 5 by 509Airdale Very Fine Loungers
I decided to get these after wearing my Bean shearling slippers out in the rain and other weather one time too many.
The Loungers arrived today and I put them on at once. I was wearing medium weight boot socks and the Loungers felt a tad snug. I took off the socks and they felt fine, a little on the narrow side, but overall pretty good. I considered returning them for a size larger, but even as I wore them they began to slop about on my feet. I then thought a size larger would be way too big.
After a few hours, inside and out, the rubber must have warmed, because the Loungers felt just great. I put on the medium (Bean) boot socks and they still feel just great. I am pleased I did not exchange them.
I believe the key point is that these are LOUNGERS; I will not wear them out for a long hike, but I will trudge out to wood pile in the back yard, in these and my robe, and will certainly take the dogs out for a walk with them. I think these are just the thing for people like me who tend to wear the shearling slippers all over the place.

Rated 3 out of 5 by Peter58 But read fit information
I purchased the recommended size. They did not fit my foot. I will admit to being bit hard to fit but comfort mocs in wide fit me great. I ordered these as recommended and the heel was sloppy loose while my toes were uncomfortably squeezed. A size bigger might have helped with the toes but only exaggerated the looseness of the heel. I returned them and bought the insulated side zip in a half size larger than my shoes. Fit is perfect and feel great in a light sock.
Love your return policy
