Real good value for the price. Rod preforms well. Liked the reel on rod case that comes with the rod. I just bought the rod separate. Have been using Bean rods for years and own 3. Best guarantee in the business. The Quest series works very well also. Love-em both. I fish more than the avg person. Two to four times a week. From April to Oct. Great staff support.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Freeportwannabee Lightest fly rod I have ever owned
I found the weight of this rod completely balanced with the reel I purchased at LL Bean. I went to a local stream to practice it's used and found it easy to cast and control. I found its weight comfortable and did not cause fatigue in it extended use. I look forward to the next full year of fishing with this new rod.

Great rod and a great price I use it on all my favorite Colorado Streams. it would be very cool if you would make a similar rod but it should be 8'6" - 3wt.

Rated 4 out of 5 by PatrickinConn Good rod for squirrelly streams
Got this a few months back but didn't really give it a workout until last week, in relatively high water on Furnace Brook in Cornwall Bridge, Conn.
Pros: Casts well once you get used to it. Stiff enough for a water load in a tight spot.
Cons: I think more guides, and oversized ones, a la the "Li'il Streamer," would make this more effective. And it's a little light for any nymph bigger than a size 14. With bigger, heavier flies you'll get a sling-shot effect. Manageable, but still.
Great rod for the price.

Rated 5 out of 5 by ULFisherman Nice UL Sub 6' 3wt
The 5'9" 3wt is an excellent rod for the money. To find a graphite UL, sub 6', 3wt at this price point is fantastic. Throw in the nice case, quality materials and craftsmanship, and solid performance and this is an unbelievable deal.
The rod itself is beautiful and well constructed. The cork is very nice. The reel seat is nicely machined with a beautiful wood laminate insert. Weighing in at 2.15 oz, this true 3wt rod is one of the lightest rods I've seen for the money. It delicately presents flies at short range with relaxed overhead, roll, and bow n arrow casts. But it has enough backbone to lay out 50'+ of DT line in calm conditions even in my hands.
The "reel" challenge is finding a reel to balance out this short, UL rod. You will definitely need a sub-3oz clicker.
The case is very well constructed. In fact, it's my nicest case. It's even nicer than my Sage reel-on-case, albeit a little bulky. The rod is not the most packable but is certainly small enough to carry on a plane or pack in a large bag.
Bottom line: this is the best deal I've seen for a sub 6' UL graphite 3wt rod.

I used the 2 piece 9 ft 9weight rod, for a salmon trip. Caught a lot of fish and it held up great. I liked the way it casts, it definitely fits my style.

i have been using a 5/6 wt rod for years (an older LL Bean rod), and it is still great. I wanted a heavier duty rod for bass and salmon, so i got the 9' 8wt. i finally got to use it this weekend and i tell you, i felt like a hero! it was a little tight in the thick brush, but everything else it was amazing. very lively and responsive, i could cast big streamers and plugs with ease, but it was delicate enough to place small dry flies under overhanging branches. if you dont have one of these rods in your quiver you are seriously missing out. GO BUY IT!
