Rated 5 out of 5 by LLtroutbum Epic rod - Guaranteed
I loved my 9ft 5wt 8 piece Double L. I had it for 3 years and fished with it a lot on lakes, rivers and creeks.
Trolling big heavy flies on depth charge line for lake trout
Casting #22 midges for rising brookies on back woods ponds
Roll casting weighted nymph rigs in fast water for browns
Swinging streamers for rainbows
Casting weedless poppers at lilly pads for bass
I loved this rod. It casts beautifully and it was extremely durable despite my abusive treatment. The 8 pieces pack so effortlessly and the sturdy case can fit in a carry-on bag for a bit of trout fishing wherever you go.
I used the past tense for this review because last week, my brother crunched the rod on a dock railing when pulling the boat up. It broke on the 3rd piece up from the handle. ANY rod would have broken in this case and it had nothing to do with it being 8 pieces.
Not to worry, LL Bean was there and I will have my new Double L in 2 days. I can't wait to get out and put the new one through it's paces this weekend.
Love you LL Bean - don't go changin'

I've only ever owned cheaper 2 piece rods, and got sick of carrying a 4ft tube through the woods. this bean rod breaks down to the width of my backpack. pretty sweet! Just took it out today, casts great, nice feel; cant wait to catch a trout! the only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is the hardware for the reel attachment seems a little chincy. Im sure it wont be a problem and if it were and issue the LL bean guarantee would take care of it at no cost!

Rated 4 out of 5 by Hawkeye1009 8 piece fly rod
Bought the 8 piece for a 14 day horseback trip into the northern rockies to fish smaller remote lakes.
Cast wet and dry flies with no problem. Above average action for 6 WT rod.
Played and landed lake trout to 22 inches from shore.
Solid carrying case.
Rating only 4 as only used on this one trip so far. Intend to carry in ATV box for future use.

Rated 1 out of 5 by KasMD Good idea but bad execution
I received this item in exchange for previous model which broke on me. After 2-3 fishing trips, this just rod broke on me as well on my 15th cast. My conclusion is that the 8 piece concept just has not been executed well. The shaft of the next to smallest piece broke on me while casting just as it did on the previous model. It could be that my casting motion is not delicate enough for 8 piece rods. I have had no problems with 2-4 piece rods.
