These pants are so comfortable. Not too tight, not too loose. It is like wear pajama pants. Can't go wrong.

I wore these while working with Syrian refugees last year, and they were neat-looking, not clingy or tight (which I am heartily sick of, & which is also not acceptable in that conservative community). They looked very nice with a dressy blouse which draped below the waistline or even with a shorter t-shirt. The part I dislike is the tie-waist. I am very thankful it has the button above the zipper, but I tuck in the excess length from the tie or else it looks like your stomach sticks out. Wonderfully cool in the hot Jordanian summer & it's terrific that when I am too hot, I can button them up above the ankles. LOVE those side button pockets - changed my camera lenses in Petra & other areas by sliding them in and out. I can trust the secure sewing on them. The other pockets above those are not deep enough to be very useful. I'd buy these again though because of the coolness and those wonderful side pockets, which are also a great theft deterrent. My cell phone goes into them even at the shopping malls. VERY handy for comfort & ease when I am caregiving. I've worn them so much they have started to 'pill' a bit between the legs. Watch out for some shrinkage. Thank you L.L. Bean - these are a winner!

Rated 4 out of 5 by Suzie00369 Good for the summer months
I ordered these pants just before a trip to New Orleans in July. If anything was going to test them in high heat and humidity, it was going to be that place. For those like me who don't like wearing shorts, these turned out to be a good choice.
When it got too hot I could roll them up to mid-calf length and get a little air on my legs. For the most part, though, they were light enough that I felt comfortable with them fully down. Plus they kept the bugs off of me when I went on a swamp tour.
The only complaint I have is the drawstring can really stick out if you're wearing a tight shirt. Then it looks like you have a big bulge on your stomach when someone takes a picture of you. For some people this probably isn't a big deal, but it was a bit annoying for me. I tucked it inside the waistband after realizing the problem and found that did help.
The pants are also quite a bit baggier than I prefer so they aren't something I'd wear during anything but the hottest days, but that was the point. To have something more comfortable in summer months. For those wondering, I ordered a size six regular and it fit fine at the waist and was the right length for my legs at 5'5" tall. To caveat that, I do have a short waist and long legs so for some they may not get the same results.
Overall, these did what I wanted and I would recommend them to anyone else with similar needs.

Rated 2 out of 5 by HonestShopper Uncomfortable at the crotch
I like the material of the pants. It is thick enough for cold climates. Again, the design is the issue. The rise is so low that I get a pulling feeling at the crotch. I don't see that any other reviewers mention it. The rest of the pants is too lose and baggy.

Rated 5 out of 5 by NorthbyNorthwest Great pants!
I purchased two pair of these pants, and I absolutely love them. I'm retired, and I am tired of wearing jeans, which after awhile look out of shape and sloppy. Southports are a great fit and the quality of material is outstanding. They are true to LLBean quality and traditionally high standards. Thank you LLBean! You always come through.

Rated 2 out of 5 by lookingforquality169 Price too high for product quality
The good: Twill fabric is soft.
The not-so-good: Pants run short and they shrink up even with a cool dryer setting and several "pulls" on the pants legs while drying. The flat-felled seams on the outside of the pants legs pucker badly, even with constant stretching while drying. The construction quality is just average; "heavy"-looking stitching and pucker-y pocket seams. The front pockets are too shallow. The drawstring is "ornamental" at best; very little adjustment possible. Buttons are unattractive. "Loden" color is *much* lighter and "greener" than shown.
I hadn't bought clothing from Bean for a few years because I felt that the overall quality, selection, and designs in women's clothing had declined significantly from their past offerings. Unfortunately, these pants don't convince me that anything has changed.

Rated 5 out of 5 by TeacherSailor My favorite pants
I bought a pair of these last summer, and liked them so much I have picked up almost one in every color! The 8 Petite fits me at 5'2" and fluctuating between 139 to 145 lbs. I work in a business casual, but professional, environment and these pressed nicely with a button-down blouse or nice sweater fit the bill. The pockets are a good size and quite functional, but the cut is feminine and modern. I've only rolled and buttoned them up a few times, but they look cute like that as well, although decidedly more casual.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Suttol Nice looking Pants, great fabric
Purchased these pants about 2 months ago. Really like the fabric. Found the pants just a smidge short, I like my pants a tad longer it is just a preference of taste. The fit is loose and comfy, I moved the button at the waist over about 1/2 " because it felt too snug. The waist is cut a little too contoured for a below the waist style, for the rest of the pant is perfect, loose and causal. I will definitely purchase another pair.

Rated 3 out of 5 by swallow two big drawbacks...
I've bought a lot of LL Bean trousers over the years, paying customs and the penalty for the Canadian dollar because LL Bean seems to be the only company anywhere that makes clothes that actually fit me. But for the first time ever I'm going to have to hem a pair of LL Bean pants! They say petite on the label but they are a good inch and a half to two inches too long.
The second drawback is the non-useful pockets. I guess I could use them to rest my hands, but if I put in a coin or a little pen, for sure they wouldn't be there by the end of the day.
If not for these two drawbacks I'd give them a 5: lovely material, great colour, and a nice look.

Rated 5 out of 5 by ActiveEngineer Great fit, feel and real pockets!
I have been looking for women cargo pants for months that are functional, and comfortable yet not baggy - these are them! Nice quality construction, soft/comfortable material, LOVE the fit. Not too tight with pockets that I can actually use. The length is perfect - a little long so that the ankles are not showing but not dragging on the floor. I don't have to get them hemmed. Waist is perfect with the draw string to take in a little extra if needed. Love the button on the waist - it doesn't rely totally on the draw string. Rise is comfortable yet not too high. I bought two in different colors!! (And I don't usually do that).
