Rated 5 out of 5 by theresaanna My favorite coat
I bought this coat at the beginning of last winter and wore it all through the winter and am looking forward to doing the same this year. I live in the city and walk, bike, or use public transit to get around. A huge, super warm coat is overkill for me most of the time - this coat and a good sweater while I'm out for an afternoon is very comfortable. I love that its not lined - I find most coats have that awful satin-like lining that is super cold when you put it on on cold days.
I find this coat timelessly stylish. It has two sets of pockets - one side pocket that is lined and seems to be intended to warm hands and then the visible flap pockets which can hold a ton of stuff. The buttons and buttonholes have held up well with many, many buttonings and unbuttonings. I love snuggling into the upturned collar and a soft cowl on a cold day.
It doesn't seem that LL Bean offers the color I got anymore - Bottle Green. I am seriously considering picking up a second one of these in another color. I don't know what I'll do if I have to replace it and they no longer sell it!

This jacket is beautifully made, very warm and good looking. My office is in an old mill, and "drafty" is an understatement. The pockets are lined, and although the body of the jacket is not, it does not stick to my sweaters. I'm 130 lbs and 5'7", the Small fits perfectly with room for a bulky sweater. I bought the dark plum, and love it.

I love this jacket. I bought it in the green. I wish you made it in a rich brown. I'm not crazy about the two shades of blue. The black is great. Maybe we'll see a brown version soon.

I was surprised to pay so much for a wool jacket that isn't even lined. Color looked much brighter on the computer. I don't want itchy wool on my neck and arms all winter. I'm returning it.

I love this jacket. It's casual or dressy. It's light but warm. It has some 'give' for layering and movement. Grey boiled wool is a true classic, but I'd love ANY of the colors you show. I'm generally a petite medium, but this time I bought a petite small...and it rocks! Of course, being unlined, it won't be wind-proof, but it has so much more to speak for it, I'd recommend it for anyone!

Rated 5 out of 5 by bb51 great transitional jacket
The burgundy color is attractive; the style is flattering, the length is perfect - it is a bit longer which makes it much more adaptable and adds a classic touch. The fit is accurate and very comfortable; there is some natural flex/stretch to the unlined boiled knit which has a nice hand, a not-too-itchy wool and a relaxed tailored style. Worn over a simple long sleeve tee, this jacket was comfortable on a breezy day walk in 40 degree November weather, but also not-too-hot for indoors. The knit is warm but breathable (not wind proof). It is perfect for casual and work type environments. A scarf and gloves formalizes the look nicely. I recommend this jacket to anyone who loves classically styled clothing that is well made and comfortable. It should last well and never be out of style. Love the pockets. I am so pleased with this jacket...the only thing I plan to add are little underside support buttons to ensure the fabric is not stretched at the buttons. Ahhh - happy.

Rated 5 out of 5 by nwnoni Really Great Jacket - but is it Indigo
I have purchased this jacket in 4 colors so far over the last 2 years or so. It's really a pleasure to wear. The fabric is very good quality and feels wonderful on cooler days with the collar turned up. I can wear this to work and at work because it's boiled wool and can be worn indoor or outdoor. My only complaint is that the last one I bought was advertised as Indigo but the picture is not accurate and looks darker than it really is. The color that arrived is what I would call Periwinkle, a light color. I kept it because I still really like it. I hope to buy every single color that is offered!

I have been looking for a quality 100%wool casual coat for some time. Fed up with the stores, I went to LLBean (where I should have started!). The coat is perfect for me - love the cut, the welted seams, the soft lining of the side entry pockets, the convenience of the top entry pockets, and the stand up collar. All attributes are appreciated while I watch my son's crew regattas, where it is always chilly. I ordered small; usually I buy size 8 or 10. It is cut generously so that I can wear the turtleneck & wool sweater that I live in during the winter (as my house is kept at 64).

I hoped this would be heavy boiled wool that would see me through the winter. It is very lightweight. If that's what you're looking for, you might like it. Otherwise, buy an Austrian boiled wool jacket. I loved the olive color. Size small fit me just fine (5'6, 135 lbs, average dimensions), though I'd say it was a little boxy in the middle... which might be perfect for a sweater underneath.

Rated 4 out of 5 by citygirlcountrygirl Beautiful, But...
I ordered this jacket in the Plum Grape and was pleasantly surprised with the rich dark plum color. Really beautiful. I tried it on and the lines were very flattering. It fit very well. The fabric is soft, the garment well made. The big BUT is that I decided to wear it for a stroll around the block the other day with temperatures around 56 and very breezy. The chill went right through the jacket. I came back into the house for my LL Bean fleece. I had wanted to look stylish and elegant, which I did in the Boiled Wool Jacket, but I have sent it back and will get something warmer. This jacket might work in a more moderate climate than Upstate New York.
