Rated 4 out of 5 by jayefromjersey this is not a jacket
This is advertised as a jacket, I would call it a sweater, period. The picture is misleading, but it suits my needs. But that being said, it is overpriced because it is a sweater. I wanted something 100% wool and so I am satisfied with it. I would not recommend anyone to buy it unless they are looking for a winter sweater. Wait until it goes on sale to get the price it really should be. As usual LLbean has great customer service the item arrived withing two days.

Beautifully made jacket, I got in plum grape and will be getting in olive.Great deal at the sale prices. Such pretty deep colors. I love the sleek look and the lightweight. Can be worn in 40s and 50s, I had to exchange for a small to get a more snug fit, and the wool stretches and drapes nicely. For colder temperatures, I plan to layer with a sweater or jacket and not invest in the heavy weight lambswool peacoat which I was planning on, as it becomes too constricting with all the man-made insulation. I love the feel of the coarse wool upto my chin when fully buttoned up. I have not washed yet, so not sure about the piling.

After reading glowing reviews for the last two winters this was the winter I was going to order your Boiled Wool Jacket. Alas your colours are dull and boring. I could go with black, it's always classic, but with the dark days arriving it would be nice to wear something brighter. Please add some brighter colours, warm and cool tones.

Rated 2 out of 5 by JavaPuppa Really wanted to love this coat
I really wanted to like this coat. It is comfortable and I like the styling, but it is not warm AT ALL! The wind goes straight through it and I feel like I am not wearing a coat. Even if it is not windy, it still doesn't feel warm. The weave of the fabric is much looser than I expected boiled wool to be. I think it would be much improved if it were lined with lightweight insulation. Unfortunately, I will be returning it.

Rated 5 out of 5 boiled wool jacket
It is a little dressy, but looked fine with dark jeans, especially the skinny style. I had it dry cleaned at the end of the season and it looks brand new despite wearing it a few times a week. It runs large. I am 5'4", 128# and will order an extra small petite this year. The size chart indicates I should wear a small.

Rated 4 out of 5 by jmay Lining would be nice
I purchased this on sale so really can't complain but I do find the material itchy so must wear either a scarf or turtleneck under..then long sleeves too. The dark green color is very nice and gives a well-dressed feeling even with jeans. I haven't worn it enough to notice pilling as a couple of reviews stated. I will return it, however, if that happens as it would then look shabby and given the original full price I would not expect that.

I bought the cobalt blue version of this jacket and just love it. What a gorgeous color. I may buy another color this season. It is a perfect balance between a jacket and a sweater. Very professional for work with a pinpoint oxford shirt and scarf. Another timeless classic from LL Bean. I normally wear an XL or PXL in LL Bean shirts and the PXL in this jacket works great for me with a little extra room for moving around, and great pockets for carrying cell phone around at work.

Rated 2 out of 5 by Cam1st A lining would have helped...
This coat has a good deal going for it. But, and this was a deal breaker for me, it has no lining. This garment actually feels, fits, and to a great extent, moves on one like a sweater; it is unlined, soft, flexible boiled wool.
Now this actually sounded good to me when I ordered the coat. However, when it arrived, it was too large for me. At a nearby LLBean store, I found the same coat in a size smaller, and it fit quite closely. Had the coat been lined, I probably would have sprung for it (it is expensive). But with no lining, I felt that the coat was, strangely, simply too revealing.
It's one thing to wear a sweater that reveals one's curves; it's something else to wear a coat that fits one like a sweater...
So I returned the too large coat, and did not purchase the item in a smaller size.
A lining in this coat would go a long way in making this garment special and much more functional. And also come closer to justifying its hefty price tag.
Not only would a prettily patterned lining echo the construction of quality boiled wool coats from Europe, but it would also add warmth, and allow a woman with a, shall we say, womanly figure to wear this garment while leaving something to the imagination.

Rated 4 out of 5 by Leah86 Beautiful coat, but not flattering
I wanted so badly to love this coat! It's the perfect weight for fall and the plum color was beautiful. But, at 5'4'' and 120 lbs, the XS was boxy and unflattering on me, even over a sweater. (Maybe I should have gotten the XS petite, but I typically don't wear petite sizes...) I wish LL Bean had better options for smaller women! If this coat were more fitted, it would be perfect for me. Sadly, it had to go back.

Rated 4 out of 5 by kab1105 great fall coat
This is a great coat. It moves easily and is not restrictive without looking bulky. It is on the thinner side, but I have faith that it will keep me warm in the upcoming cooler months. I do wish the inside was lined as the interior sleeves are kind of itchy/scratchy when wearing short sleeve shirts. The pockets are great because they open from up top as well as on the side.
