I work for the forest service, and this is my go-to shirt for those chilly mornings working on the stream. This shirt can take a beating; four months of crawling through dense brush, climbing under sharp spruce branches, and sliding down rock scree without a single pull and all while keeping me super comfy and warm. Absolutely worth every penny, and I plan to buy two more for the coming winter season. A must have!

Rated 5 out of 5 by LadyHiker101 Fantastic shirts; Black Stewart a challenge
I have about seven or eight of these shirts--all different colors. Love them, obviously. The only material I found problematic was Black Stewart. It is a beautiful shirt, but when I washed it, it turned very stiff, no matter how much fabric softener I added to the rinse cycle. I returned it for another Black Stewart in the same size. I will not wash it but rather take it to have it dry cleaned; that's how beautiful it is. Oh, I wash all the other shirts in cold water with Woolite for Dark Colors. After I add softener in the rinse cycle, I put the shirts in the dryer VERY briefly, just long enough for them to start steaming. From there I take them hot and wet from the dryer and hang them immediately on plastic hangers. There are no wrinkles at all and no shrinkage. Oh, I wash my Bean flannel nightgowns along with the shirts and hang them up immediately, too, after a brief time in the dryer. "Easy breezy." Hope this helps.

This is the best flannel I've ever owned - thick, warm, durable, and a great color. I bought it in Royal Stewart a year ago and it still looks brand new. I'm devastated that it didn't come in Green Stewart this year because that was the one I wanted to buy. The colors this year in general are much worse than the last so I'm very disappointed about that. All in all a great shirt and great quality, just wish they hadn't changed the colors!

Nice material, nice color. I received this shirt as a gift last Christmas and have worn it quite a bit. The first button down from the collar is too far down. Buttoning the collar isn't always comfortable. Not buttoning the collar leaves the top gaping open. You can see this on the model in the Bean picture. It's just not a nice fit, and I've never gotten used to it. I probably won't buy this shirt again until LLBean redesigns it to move the buttons up and maybe add another button. Spend another two cents and do it right. This used to be a really nice, well-fitting shirt.

I have two of these shirts, which I love. Living in Southern Arizona, they are perfect for mild winters. Every thing is very casual in Tucson, these shirts are perfect for going out for dinner or a walk in the desert.
The fabric is soft and they colors are vibrant. The shirts look great with a t-shirt underneath. My only complaint is they need ironing after being washed and dried.
Thank you, LLBean

The last few items I've bought on L.L. Bean have run small. I saw this shirt and it was available in Red/White Menzies in size 1X. Normally, I do not wear this size but I decided to order it anyway and see what I get. What I got was a HUGE shirt that seemed enormous in size but I decided to wash it and see what I ended up with.
What I ended up with is a perfectly fitting shirt! My husband even commented that he thought it hung well on me and was flattering. I was so pleased that I came back to this site to see if they had any more available and yes, they had one left in the color Black Stewart size 1X and I ordered this yesterday and am now waiting to receive it. Will be using these much like I do the "Big Shirts" sold by L.L. Bean.
This is a quality made shirt out of Portuguese flannel and yes, it shrinks. That is what flannel tends to do -- shrink.
So my advice is to buy one of these and by all means DO SIZE UP and you'll be happy as can be.
It did not bleed out, etc. while being washed in cold water and also was dried in a regular dryer completely which likely caused a lot of the needed shrinkage.
Thanks for a great shirt that I'm sure will last many years L.L. Bean! :)

I purchased both the Gray Stewart and the Black Stewart. I am pleased with my purchase. I found that the Gray Stewart ran a bit small and needed to order up a size. The Gray Stewart showed pilling after washing even though I hung it up while still damp. The Black Stewart still looks brand new and runs true to size, very comfortable shirt and thrilled that the arms are long enough. I don't like a button down collar so I unbuttoned it and removed the round white paper on the inside of the button with a cuticle scissor.

Rated 4 out of 5 by BigBadScientist Well made, looks great, fit not quite perfect
A really nice, warm, and well-made shirt. My only complaint is minor, and it's about the fit. I'm nearly 5'9" and a properly-fitted 36H, so while an XL is great in the length/arms/shoulders, it's boxy in the body and pulls slightly across the chest (ie, the dreaded button gap). A slightly fuller cut in the front combined with a more tapered fit along the body would have made this the perfect 3-season shirt.

Rated 5 out of 5 by lastMinuteOrder Scotch Plaid Shirt, petite size
Ordered a Women's Petite Small in Scotch Plaid Shirt. It fits well; the arms are not too long, which can be a problem in my fit. It is soft, washes well and has not shrunk in 3 washes. Warm and comfy. Would order another next winter and give as gifts. Would like to see more feminine color palette.
