I bought the red and white cotton Kingfield sweater recently, and have been very pleased with all aspects of it. I'm 5'3, size 10 and the torso length (mid hip), sleeve length, and shoulder fit are perfect. The sweater is thick and warm, but not hot; the buttons are solid and attractive, and the buttonholes are finished well. I plan on buying other colors of this same sweater in the future. Since I'm overly sensitive to wool fibers against my skin, I was so pleased to find that this cotton sweater is extremely suitable for cold winter weather wear.

Rated 3 out of 5 by Emsy Don't Like The New Cut
I have a henley cotton Kingfield that I've had for several years and love; it's wider and boxier. I ordered this cardigan in cotton, and it's too small in the bust. I usually wear a medium but am a 34DD. This cut is for the younger generation who like things skin-tight evidently. The sleeve-length and shoulders were fine for me, so I didn't want to try a large. I sent the medium back. I loved the mallard blue color. Disappointed.

Rated 1 out of 5 by tdoyon great until you wash it
This sweater was amazing - it fit very well and was nice and warm. Then I washed it according to the instructions. The thing has literally shrunk an entire size. It's unwearable. I've owned the cotton version of these, and they typically shrunk a little after the first washing. But what happened to the wool version is just nuts. I'm returning it to the store as soon as I can, but after this I'm going to think twice before purchasing another sweater from L.L. Bean.

Rated 5 out of 5 by BeansRegular Top of the Line Sweater
I have been wanting one of the Kingsfield wool sweaters for years, but was not able to grab my size in my prefered colors. Last year, I purchased one in the petite XS, trying for a less boxy fit, but even though the sleeves were long enough, the body was still too wide but too short.
This year I read reviews stating that this year's version was running a bit more snug. I jumped and got the XS regular in Mallard Blue in the 100% lambswool. The fit is perfect. I am 5'7", 115, and wear a size 4 LLBean shirt. The body fits perfectly over a top, the sleeve length is great, the intricate stitching is wonderful and there are absolutely no flaws. The lambswool is extremely soft and not at all scratchy (and I am wool sensitive). I am totally thrilled.
I am so thrilled that I got back online and ordered the Classic Black, this time in the Cotton, for use in various temps. That too is a perfect fitting, beautifully made sweater.
The intricate knit creates loops of fabric on the back, but they are obvious enough that snagging them from the back can be avoided. I have gotten many compliments on each sweater when worn. I have not tried to spot clean or hand wash either one yet.
I would recommend both versions readily to anyone for a classic winter look with warmth that cannot be beat. This is an all winter sweater, not just for the holiday season. Keep up the great quality work and the great color choices, LLBean!

Rated 5 out of 5 by Charann BEAUTIFUL AND WARM CARDIGAN SWEATER
I ORDERED THIS KINGFIELD CARDIGAN IN MALLARD BLUE IN COTTON AND ABSOLUTELY LOVE IT. IT IS A REALLY PRETTY SWEATER AND COLOR... A GOOD FIT FOR ME. THE ONLY THING I WILL WARN YOU ABOUT IS TO BE VERY CAREFUL REGARDING THE INSIDE OF THE SWEATER GETTING CAUGHT ON ANYTHING AS IT IS NOT LINED....I HAD A SLACKS BUTTON PULL THE YARN SEVERAL TIMES. I THINK I WILL BE ABLE TO PULL IF BACK THROUGH THOUGH.. ASIDE FROM THIS, IT IS MY MOST FAVORITE SWEATER AND I WEAR IT WITH THE LL BEAN INTERLOCK TURTLENECKS IN THE CREAM SHADE.

I purchased three of these sweaters! First one in bright mallard, second one in nautical red and third one in black! I love them all! I wear them with a turtleneck and I never wear a coat because they are very warm! The fit is great! They are all gorgeous and I get compliments every time I wear one!

Rated 4 out of 5 by emh1960 Sleeves short for me
I admit I hate snug fitting clothes but this large seems a teensy bit small for me. I'm sending it back for an xl. I'm 5'10" and 150 pounds. I have a large from 2 years ago that is fine though. Oh well.

I received this sweater for Christmas from my husband in wool Cobalt Blue Size Large. The sweater is very warm, beautiful eye catching design and colors, fits perfect and even roomy enough to wear a white or black Bean turtleneck underneath. Paired with black leggings and knee high riding boots - a very striking outfit!
Wore it to work next day after Christmas ... and got a ton of compliments! Wore to the store and church today... and many ladies did a double take as I walked by! Went to Mansfield Outlet today and purchased a Red one. I many go back this week for the Mallard Blue! Thanks again LL Bean for making such a quality and beautiful product!

Rated 2 out of 5 by MissGretel What's up with the sizing these days?
For years my mother has wished for a Kingsfield sweater. This year I finally got her one. She is on the round size and short, so I ordered an XL petite. It fits her fine through the shoulders and chest, but hangs almost to her knees! It is also much tighter around the hips, which wouldn't be a problem if it was the length shown in the picture. Furthermore, the sleeves are at least three inches too long!!! So much for "petite". So disappointing, and not what I expect from LLBean! I will return it, but that leaves my mother without her Christmas present.

I ordered the wool version of this sweater in Nautical Red?a beautiful, deep, neutral/cool red. Despite shopping at L.L. Bean since the 70s, this was my first Kingfield, and I couldn't wait for it to arrive. Sadly, it might be my last Kingfield. When I removed the sweater from the bag, I initially thought L.L. Bean had accidentally sent me a customer return because the wool looked washed. More specifically, the red yarn used in the yoke's birdseye stitching appeared to have bled into the surrounding cream wool (not soft white, as it appears online, but a yellow cream), giving the shoulder area a dirty-pink hue. I examined the sweater more closely and realized that the red yarn was showing through the back of the cream wool, giving the cream a pinkish cast. If you zoom in on the photo of the red sweater above (and optionally press CTRL + on your browser to further enlarge the image), you can almost see what I mean. Dirty PINK.
If not for this unfortunate design flaw, I'd be over the moon and looking to purchase at least one more. The sweater is beautifully made, thick, very warm, and roomy without that unfortunate combination of overly-blousy bodice with tight sleeves. I hate to return it, but I can't stand looking at that pinkish cast right under my face, which makes me look jaundiced. I'll stick with Bean's Norwegian sweaters, which have never disappointed, including this year's excellent version with the fleece-lined collar that also comes in the pretty Nautical Red.
