Over this past summer, we moved to the western (and colder) part of the state. As we love to spend time outdoors, I purchased these mittens in anticipation of the colder weather. It hasn't been extremely cold yet, but I've worn them already on nippy November mornings. I can tell they are going to serve me very well through even the coldest part of the winter season.

I was looking forward to this mitten and really disappointed when it arrived. The seam joint between the thumb and the hand was tight right onto the web between my thumb and hand. I had ordered both the lg. & med. and both sizes fit this way. My concern with it fitting so tight was getting cold too easily in that spot. Also that much stress could lead to tears or broken threads quite quickly. Other than that they fit fine.To my disappointment I returned both pair.

We sure have had enough snow to test these this winter. Keep hands warm and dry. Great purchase!

I purchased these mittens to replace an old pair of very loved, non-L.L. Bean down mittens. I originally purchased a M size because I have always worn medium sized gloves/mittens (my hand measures 7.5" around the knuckles). Needless to say, I was surprised at how small they were. It took a lot of effort to get them on, and once I did, there was little room inside for movement. I exchanged them for a size L, and they fit much fit much better.
Unfortunately, I am not that impressed with their performance. I've been wearing them to walk in the single-digit temperatures and my hands have been cold. It seems the bulk of the down is on the back-side of the mitten, and it is quite bulky on the back-side. The palm-side and the thumb aren't as insulated, and are more vulnerable to the cold. Also, my hands get very dry in the winter time and for some reason, my dry hands are "catching" on the lining material - I wish it was a better fleece material.
I am keeping them only because I need something, and I am hoping they will wear in a bit. But, from my first impression, they are just "acceptable" for now.

I bought these mittens because my fingers quickly freeze when I walk the dog. These are warm and not bulky, which I was worried about. I bought a medium which fits fine, but I think I could have gotten a small, I wear a size 6 ring. Easily the warmest mittens I have tried.

I love these mittens. They are very warm and they repel water. I have worn them to shovel snow in and I never had cold hands.
These are the second pair that I have bought.

My daughter in law walks her dogs every morning and asked for warm mittens as gloves don't keep her hands warm on these cold days. On Christmas Day she went for a long walk with the dogs and her new mittens. Her response....WONDERFUL. Warm, comfy. You can't beat Down for warmth. A big success.

Rated 3 out of 5 by Jemia great fitting mittens, but not warm enough for me.
I live in Minnesota and our temperature has been below 0 several days now and will continue. I bought this mittens to walk the dog. I could feel the wind going through the fibers. They may be fine with a liner inside. I'm 5 feet tall with a small hand. I ordered a small which fit perfect. I sent them back for a different style. I ordered http://www.llbean.com/llb/shop/82052?feat=goretex%20mittens-SR0&page=women-s-gore-tex-insulated-mittens&attrValue_0=Black&productId=1182109.
I'm very happy with LLBeans quick delivery and service.
