I don't think I have ever had a Shetland sweater before. I got this thinking it would be similar to the lambswool sweaters I have gotten previously from LLB (they were out of the color I wanted). It is not. I am sure it is very warm the the wool is very rough and not pleasant to even touch. So I am returning it and will await the lambswool weathers in the fall.

I purchased this sweater for a man only likes to wear 100% wool sweaters. I ordered a large, the size he normally wears, but the fit was too small. The sweater was exchanged for an extra large which is much too big. He loved the dark khaki sweater and was very disappointed. Sorry, I now have to return the extra large.

This is your basic shetland wool sweater: midweight yarn, very warm and very functional. Some may find shetland wool to be excessively irritating, but I guess I'm an odd-ball as I'm comfortable wearing just a t-shirt underneath this sweater. The only complaint I have is with regard to the lack of colors, specifically charcoal and black, as these colors are the standards of any New Yorker's wardrobe.

My husband loves natural fabrics, and only wears wool sweaters fall through early spring, so last year he bought two of these. I expected them to be very thick and bulky but they're actually thin enough to tuck into jeans if you're so inclined. He wears them with a thermal tee underneath, and they are warm enough like that to be outside for a walk with a light scarf in 50-degree weather (ok, sunny and 50).
My husband is 6 feet tall, longer than average in the torso, and 220. He wears a size Large, which fits close to the body but not tight, and is just long enough. It looks great. If you prefer a loose fit, or have a bit more of a tummy, may want to go up a size.
The Shetland wool is not as soft as lambswool, but I also think people are just not used to it. The feel is rough compared to fleece or brushed cotton, sure, but you quickly get used to it and the warmth-to-weight ratio is superb.
Note: natural Shetland and some lambswool has a smell up close that is something between plant-like and mildly animalic. We do not mind this at all, and it is only noticeable briefly when you put it over your head or sniff up close. This is normal, and will fade over time with wear and washing, but will always linger a bit. Hope this will not out you off of natural fibers, or this wonderful sweater.

Shetland sweaters are hard to find and these are very nicely made. I like woolly sweaters and wear them on bare skin. I will purchase a couple of more.

I pretty much live in wool from Oct till March. I can wear a rag wool sweater against bare skin. The Shetland sweater has to be the scratchiest wool I've ever worn, I can feel the fibers poking thru a flannel shirt.

While this is a nice sweater I like Beans Ragg Wool Sweaters more. On this one the wool was fairly scratchy and had a wet wool odor to it so I exchanged it for a ragg wool one. Otherwise well made and fit like a true medium.
