These sneakers are hard to walk in, hard to stand in and generally uncomfortable. Good looking and great to sit around in, but that's not what I buy sneakers for.

Rated 5 out of 5 by ChildoftheSixties Don't be afraid of the green
I purchased the green version with some reluctance because I needed water sneakers right away and my size was only available in what looked like a lurid lime green on my computer screen. In fact, the true color is a reasonably attractive muted olive, which was a pleasant surprise.

Rated 4 out of 5 by northbynoreaster What's in a name? Vacationland: not hikers.
Light and airy in summer but they are more versatile on streets and forest with a gel sole insert. Much better, in my experience, than some reviews led me to expect. Certainly worth it at 1/2 price.
For something sturdier, try Rocky Coast TA287225 which is a better value at list price.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Amanuensis Yes, changes in new version, BUT still AWESOME.
OK, so I posted a couple years back about how awesome these shoes are, for what they are: water/everyday shoes. They are NOT hikers, workboots, dance shoes, or flippers. If you're looking for solid support, look elsewhere. (Side note: it's kind-of annoying to read so many people complain about the solidness of the shoe when it's clearly mostly mesh)
Well, I bought a new pair the other day to supplement the old (which are still going strong, even after wearing 2-3 days/week for the last two years) and the new ones are definitely different, but still great.
The new ones now have a free tongue, compared to the almost fully stitched tongue on the original. I actually liked the stitched, as I didn't ever have to adjust anything, but I've seen some people preferred loose. In the end, it doesn't really matter much.
The new ones are essentially the same otherwise, except for the only change that really doesn't work: the laces. I thought the new bungee cord with holder thingie was cool for, like, two hours. But then the shoes started loosening up. The laces of the original were a much better design as, with the stitched tongue, they were essentially slip-on that still remained snug.
SO, would I buy these again? Absolutely--they are the most comfortable, airy shoes I have, and I wear them almost exclusively now that I have two pairs (and will probably buy a 3rd soon). But do know that you'll probably wanna buy some laces or at least fiddle with the bungee lace to keep it snug.

by YesVirginia Perfect for....
This is a lightweight, sneaker-based shoe. It is VERY light and flexible, and therefore is not suitable for rough terrain hiking, even though the sole appears very rugged in the pictures. My experience (3 months) is that it's great for everyday use, including mild outdoor activity (lawn mowing, yard work, car washing, etc#, for trips to local shopping areas; for indoor wear. But, you should not expect it to fully support your feet for rough-terrain activity like hiking. It's great for walking on the beach since it's so lightweight, and since most of the upper is breatheable mesh. Other than bedroom shoes, these are the lightest shoes I own. Though not noticeable in the LLBean catalogue picture, the "laces" are actually elastic cords which are secured with a little springlike gripper. At first I wasn't sure this was useful, but after wearing these shoes for several months, I find that the laceup procedure is fast and simple. Just slip the shoes on, and run the little gripper thing down to the tounge, and you're done. Quick. #See my attached photo# Since the "laces" are elastic, they "give" quite a bit so it's very easy to loosen them or tighten them during the day. Someone with painful finger joints might find this laceup procedure to be very helpful. Would I recommend this shoe? Absolutely.

Rated 1 out of 5 by Lombard86 Seemed to be not the best contruction/quality...
I am a big LL Bean fan and this is one of the VERY few times I came away disappointed in one of their products. Outside of the sole, the rest of the shoe seemed to be oddly constructed/somewhat cheap. I am a size 10M and the shoe was tight in the toes, but large in the heal (so my feet would flip out). The shoe mesh/lace area also just seemed a little thin/cheap and probably would not stand the test of time, so I just returned them. It would not surprise me if LL Bean discontinued this line of shoe....

Rated 4 out of 5 by ChrisfromNC Great shoes with one exception
I bought my first pair of these shoes 3 years ago for a trek through the wilds of Orlando (6 theme parks in 5 days). They are lightweight and breathable and very comfortable. I usually wear a EE and the EEE is just a little too wide. It was ok because I could tie the laces tighter. At the time, I thought how great it would be to have a slider on the laces to hold them so I didn't need to tie them. Well, this pair has that feature. Unfortunately, when I pull the laces tight, I now have 12 inches of extra lace dangling off the side of my shoe. I'll keep the shoes and work out the extra lace because they are great walking shoes.

Rated 5 out of 5 by LLoyalCustomer Excellent LLBean shoes
I am a loyal customer for over 20 years, and have purchased LLBean tents, backpacks, hiking and casual shoes, jackets, etc., so I trust the brand. These shoes fit well, and slip off easily. I use them mainly around the house, or for quick errands and yardwork. The mesh fabric keeps my feet cool, and slip off easily when I sit and take a break. I am not an impulse buyer, but I liked them so much, I ordered another pair in a different color a few hours after I received them.

Rated 1 out of 5 by ArtL An unsuccessful replacement
I wanted to replace my previous water shoes which are starting to wear. These shoes fit great, are light and comfortable. The problem with them is that the soles peeled off at the heel, and the ill-conceived drains in the soles wicked up dew from wet grass and water from puddles. I read the negative reviews, but decided to give the new ones a shot. They did not appear to be designed for human feet and seemed like the right and left were interchangeable. The quality of materials and construction was not what I have come to expect from Bean. The only upside was that there were no drains in the sole. I brought them right back to the store, and I?ll wear the old pair while waiting for a better replacement.

Rated 3 out of 5 by kalbog Too Big
This is a great shoe, light weight, it breaths well and very comfy. I would have given 5 starts however, I have been a 9.5 shoe size for ever and have even ordered other Bean shoes in 9.5. These shoes are way too big. I see that others have stated that they are true to size, so not sure if I just got a mis-labeled pair. I bought them at the end of the fall season last year and just broke them out, so way too late to try and return.
