Iheartskiing Hat way too short and long sleeve
I love this coat, it kept my little one warm, but, the hat was way too short, barely there if you ask me. It almost started behind her ears, not covering most of the head. Its a little hard to explain. I had to put a neck scarf to protect her. I needed a built in hat to cover more to the front, like the colorblock parka her sister wore. Also, the sleeve a little too long, I think. I will say the goggle holder is a great feature, so useful, great idea. Overall, a good coat, but if you need more covereage for your little ones face, this is not the one.

Rated 3 out of 5 by Midori77 Nice coat but some quality control issues
I bought this jacket for my 7 year old daughter and on the second time she wore it the zipper broke. A zipper shouldnt break on the second wearing, this is not the traditional L.L. Bean quality. Other than the broken zipper it is a nice jacket.

Rated 1 out of 5 by Gretchen08 Not the coat it used to be- get the Snowfield
I have been buying this parka for about five years now, for my older two kids (my youngest is getting the hand me downs). It's been a wonderful coat, durable through two seasons of wear and then passed along to cousins and siblings. BUT, this new version is lacking. We bought it last year for my VERY petite daughter, and it is so short she was complaining that her legs were cold. It ends at the waist, which is useless when you want good warm coverage. It also seems boxier, which leaves room for drafts to blow right up the coat.
I have found a solution though! Still from LL Bean is the Snowfield Parka, which is everything the Katahdin used to be. I just got it for that same daughter, and it's perfect! Longer length and sleeves so I know she'll get two seasons (at least) out of it, just as heavy as the Katahdin, and it has the inside zip cord to cinch it tighter around the waist (for the Kid sizes). So if you loved the Katahdin, but don't love the new one, try the Snowfield and I think you'll be happy!

Rated 5 out of 5 by Boots38 awesome winter wear!!
I bought this snowsuit for my daughter 3 yrs ago, and it still looks brand new...she is very hard on her clothing and I wash it frequently without any ill affects to the coat. She is always warm and dry and the only reason she won't wear it now is it is too small...and I am now buying it in a larger size...thanks LL for the excellent quality!!

Rated 2 out of 5 by 3GirlsMomInMA Very disappointed!
What happened, L.L. Bean?? I have been buying this coat for 10 years for my three girls--we have been through roughly 6 or 7 Katahdin Parkas, only buying a new one when the old was outgrown. One of them went through 6 seasons! So while I have had great experience in the past with this coat, the newest version is a total dud. There are two big problems with this version: the arms are BIZARRELY long compared to the body of the coat, and it is very short--I purchase a parka because that implies there is some coverage below the waist, but this version is more like a jacket. A size 8 looked short on my 8-year-old who is only in the 20th percentile for height! But the arms hung down like a gorilla's... This is going back tomorrow. Just bring back the old design, please!

Rated 3 out of 5 by carolinaladybug It is not like the previous katahdin parka
If this is your first katahdin parka, you might like it.
If, however, you ordered one in a previous year before the "remodel," you may be as disappointed as I am.
The coat looks very boxy now, with drawstrings only on the inside instead of gathering at the waist. Additionally the hood design has changed and the redesigned stow-away pocket looks untidy.
But the most disappointing factor is that the feature allowing the sleeves to be lengthened as the child grows has been eliminated.
We are keeping this jacket because I tried it on my daughter (age five) and she loves the color (the violet/sapphire is really pretty) and wants to keep it.
Since it is ours now, I hope this jacket will prove to be as durable as the previous one, which lasted two years and was replaced only because it was outgrown.

Rated 5 out of 5 by olcottt LOVE the HOOD!!!!!!
My children HATE hoods. We love the fact that this hood folds in and is removable. We travel on cold mornings and my children NEED to wear their coats in the car; normal hoods are too bulky and get in the way, resulting in uncomfortable ride. We also love the velcro sleeves; they great for keeping mittens in place. Thank you LLBean!

I wanted a Snowfield Parka for my younger daughter because her older sister has one and loves hers. But, there were none left in her size. I ended up ordering this coat but it ended up being too big, plus I didn't notice any hood. I guess I didn't look too hard because I see a hood in the photo here online, but if it's a hood that can be zipped away, I don't think it's enough of a hood for us. At the end of the day, I guess I really wanted a Snowfield Parka. I guess I have to shop for one during the summer to get one in time for next Winter...

We bought this last year for our daughter. She loved it. When she needed a larger size we went back and bought another one.

Rated 5 out of 5 by LCNsMom Great coat!
I love these katahdin parkas. This is the 3rd one I have bought for my kids. The parkas are water resistant and warm without being bulky. We have very long very cold winters and it makes such a difference to have warm and attractive winter wear. In addition to the warmth and lack of bulk, my favorite features include velcro at the cuffs so I can cinch their cuffs tightly around mittens to keep out the snow; draw string around the waist that can be cinched to keep out drafts; and nylon-lined sleeves that make it easy for my kids to slip their arms in and out.
