Terrific coat. Warm, water proof, comfortable, fits perfectly with our without underlayer, great size, number and convenient locations of pockets, two-way zipper works easily, typical great LL Bean quality and value; absolutely no complaints.

I bought this coat two years ago and have worn it through two New England winters while commuting daily by rail to Boston, It fits over a suit coat when needed but is plenty warm enough with just a work shirt. I like the pockets especially the exterior zippered one for my rail pass and my building ID, It hangs lower than it appears in the picture but does not bunch up on seats. The zippered storm collar is worn more often up than flattened as I brave, wind, rain, and snow on the exposed train platform. I like the cords that cinch at the waist just like my camo hunting coat. I wear it with a Stetson or on subzero days with a rabbit fur trooper hat--flaps down!

I was looking for a warm coat to replace my very warm but enormously bulky North Face McMurdo parka. The Nor'easter gets it mostly right. The Gore Tex finish is soft and cloth-like, so the jacket doesn't scream techno-nerd. The army jacket variant styling is nice. The insulation will be warm enough for everything but extended time outdoors in very cold weather. The sizing is on- I'm 6' tall, weigh 200 lb and fit comfortably into a size large. There are 2 things that I would change: The handwarmer pockets are a bit too high to use comfortably, but are still good for stashing things. It would also be nice to have a detachable hood. Over all, I'm satisfied.

Bought the coat for cold days waiting for commuter train. Disappointed that there is no hood. Needs a hood!!! Will have to return the coat.

The Nor'easter Commuter thigh length coat is an excellent fit, very warm and most comfortable coat. Just the right length to keep the cold winter wind away. I now own both the full length coat and now the thigh length. This thigh length coat measures up the full length coat in quality and warmth. Zipper works really well and pockets are set at the correct position for comfort. This is a Five Star coat. Its LL Bean all the way.

Very first day I wore it was cold, windy and rainy. Perfect test, and it passed with flying colors. I love the fact that the pockets are lined for keeping your hands warm without gloves. The fit is perfect, and no cold air was getting through the shell and lining. Love the big glove pockets down low, and the zippered pockets on the chest for keys, cell phone, whatever. Easy access to all pockets. Overall a great coat, no regrets!

Where I live every day in winter is below freezing. Coat is holding up. Like the outside pockets so I don't have to open the coat and let the cold in just to get something. Wouldn't mind a real big pocket for gloves, cap and so on but have survived fine without. One reviewer strongly remarked that jacket is hard to zip. That is true - if you hold the zipper the way we usually do. I found that if I don't hold the the end parts and instead use the jacket then it slides right in. Must be some subtle design difference. Maybe someone doesn't want to use Sundbäck's patent? When it gets to the low end of its temperature range I find that layering is useful as the sleeves feel like those of a light shirt. Then, low end of the coat's advertised range is downright cold! I'm happy with my purchase.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Gstalloch Roomier than I thought it would be.
I ordered this for my husband, hoping to give him a nice, professional-looking coat to wear over his casual dress clothes that actually keeps him warm. The fabric is soft and flexible, and the jacket is roomy enough for free arm movement. All in all, it is a very good coat.

This coat, which was purchased for frequent trips to cold weather cities, was a good idea, but the implementation of the design was way off. To use the zipper properly one had to have arms the length of a gorilla. Impossible!! The coat itself was so bulky that once on, the wearer looked like the Michelin Man. Also, no reason why a hood couldn't have been designed into the shorter version of the two. All in all, not up to what I've come to expect from a life-long of purchasing from Bean's.
