I purchased this due to the pattern and fabric. I found it both light and warm! I haven't worn it enough to experience the piling, but it seems to be holding up. My brother in law saw my blue one, and although the blue was no longer available, he loves the gray one, which I bought for him.
It looks great with khaki's, cords, or jeans, with a button down underneath....and for $29 bucks it was a bargain.

I purchased 2 of these sweaters and they are the worst I have bought. They "pill" very easily and, after a couple of wearings the knit begins to separate and form holes. I won't be buying lambswool sweaters here anytime in the future

Rated 5 out of 5 by UmassGrad Great, but more variety is needed
I love these lambswool sweaters. They are reasonably soft and are more durable than cashmere sweaters by not pilling so soon.
But I am personally disappointed by the colors available and the fact that only one patterned version is available.
I would really like to see more darker, serious colors befitting of wool such as loden or forest green, burgundy, medium gray, medium blue and medium red available. Heathered colors would also be nice. Some of the (obviously) light colors, with the exception of taupe which is actually tan or khaki, look silly in my opinion. And the shade of red available is too bright!
And please, more emphasis on patterned sweaters!

Rated 2 out of 5 by Kris2 Quality has gone down and fit has changed
My husband has had a few of these sweaters over the past several years. The quality has gone down considerably since his first purchase. He just received three new sweaters as replacements due to holes under the arm and in the neck. The fit of the new sweaters has changed for the worse. He wears a Medium Tall. The new sweaters fit great in the sleeve length but the body of the sweaters are HUGE. He swims in them which was never an issue previously. They fit much more like a sz L or XL. When you order a Medium Tall, you want a slender fit with long sleeve length. Unfortunately, these sweaters are going back. Such a disappointment.

I haven't had this long enough to test other reviewers' claims about holes wearing through, but I very much like the thinness of the material. I run hot, and can almost never find a sweater that doesn't make me sweat in most overheated American buildings. This one layers perfectly over a t-shirt--and it's soft enough to wear next to the skin. "Dark kelly" is much brighter than it appears either online or in the catalogue, a very refreshing change from the much darker green typical in men's sweaters--perfect for St. Patrick's Day.
The fit is generous, which is fine by me, except the sleeves, which are a bit skimpy. Yes, I have long arms, but if you wanted to cuff these, forget it--even uncuffed, they barely cover my wrists. Bean touts the British mill for their wool, but I have a true British sweater from elsewhere with longer arms even after being cuffed.
A couple years ago I bought a "lambswool sweater" from Bean that was completely different--thicker, and almost too itchy to wear next to the skin. I hope they persist with this newer, better version.

Rated 4 out of 5 by DFuller Good quality overall
I own one of these in charcoal and wear it almost daily. The material is of excellent quality, used also by a well-known British sweater maker whose similar goods sell for twice the price (even if they're actually made in Madagascar). But I do wish that the cut were slimmer in the waist, for a dressy material like lambswool, to be more flattering and easier to layer with. And I can't understand why it isn't made with a saddle shoulder like the V-neck version, one of which I own in navy. It would be both more comfortable and more stylish that way.
To sum up: comfortable, good quality, adequate fit, would benefit from a saddle shoulder.

I've always liked these sweaters, and own several. As previous reviewers have noted, however, the quality is below expectations for a sweater at this price. In my experience, they develop small holes in unusual places (in the cuff, in the back, near the neck) where wear is minimal. This has occurred in every one of these I've owned. While they're very comfortable, be aware that they're really only good for one season.

I am very disappointed in the quality of this sweater for the price and am returning it. The material is very, very thin and I don't believe it would last more than a couple of seasons compared to the other wool sweaters I own(or have owned in the past). It is more like a $20 sweater, not a $69 sweater, Disappointed that Bean would even sell it at this price.
This review is for the ;ambswool crewneck, not Buffalo (for some reason the system won't let me write a review for the exact product that I purchased) but I imagine both sweaters are the same construction.
