I bought this sweatshirt with the expectation that it would be heavier material than my fleece-lined KIW Heavyweight Hooded Sweatshirt, especially in the hood. It's a disappointment to say that it is not. The hood has inadequate insulation and the garment lining is similarly not an improvement over the heavyweight version. Another problem is length. It is probably 1 1/2 to 2 inches shorter at the waist than my heavyweight KIW sweatshirt, so I sent it back. I did like the color however.

I finally received the Katahdin Iron Works Insulated Sweatshirt after L.L. Bean sent a different item instead (e.g. white oxford dress shirt) before Christmas. So far, I washed it once and dry on low heat and continues to look and feel great!
I hope these sweatshirts return at the end of 2013 in more colors and slightly longer!

The zipper. Holy cow what a pain this zipper is. It's seriously frustrating and it still might cause me to send it back. It's that bad. My other complaint is that the tall isn't long enough. I'm 6'1" and its barely long enough for my liking. If I was taller I don't think it would fit well. But overlooking those two issues, it is a very well made and warm hoodie. I like how the sleeves are lined with smooth material making it very easy to get on and off. It also does a great job repelling water. And it looks really good.

I wore this coat out in high winds on the lake with big waves and 40F weather - fall fishing. I initially thought it was short on insulation and too light to stand up to the cold wind. I was wrong. I have the other fleece lined model of this coat and it is not nearly as warm as this version. I only wore a light zip neck Bean insulated shirt under the coat and I was dropping the zipper to regulate the body temp when not on the move. The coat was almost too warm in the fall sun but I can put up with that. The coat also sheds water to a greater degree than one would expect for a sweatshirt. Great fishing sweatshirt from Bean for cold windy lakes!

The quality is excellent, however I had to return it, as the arms were too tight. My son wears a size L, and it fit him perfectly everywhere else, except the arms. I then ordered an XL, and the arms fit nicely, but it was too big everywhere else. So unfortunately, I had to return that one as well.

this sweater is one of the favorite things I own. I just lost my previous one and was bummed and ordered a new one hoping that it wouldn't be different. It just arrived and happily - its the same great sweatshirt I had before. Where I am the weather changes every single day and this sweater covers the worst of the worst and its become my go-to for inclement weather. Plus the new lining color (red/brown) is, in my opinion, way nicer than the last. Good job, bean

This is the best sweatshirt I have ever owned. I would have been wearing this sweatshirt for decades if I had known about it. It is water resistant and warm. The double metel zipper, storage pockets and lining make this a great buy! I haven't had it long enough to speak of it's durability, but it is a winner in all respects I can see. The metal double zipper is a big point to me.

I bought this sweatshirt two years ago. After many washing the zipper started to fray. I returned it, and as soon as one became available they sent a new one. I wear this sweatshirt a lot since I work outside in all weather. Its just the best. Except they no longer carry the one pictured on-line or their catalog, color wise .
The lining is now red and tan, instead of blue and tan in the ink color. Not a big fan .

This is an ultimate chilly weather sweatshirt. It is warm enough to wear till the puddles freeze (with a sweater) and not too hot when it's sunny outside. The best thing about it is the water-reppelent cotton: yes, it really works. You can naturally walk through the drizzle and stay dry. Secret pocket on the back of the neck is also a nice touch, as are double-duty front pockets. My two only concerns with this sweatshirt is that it is somewhat short, it only covers my belt (and I am an average height guy) and that is very boxy ? even size S looks oversized on my 110 lbs frame (that's why 4 stars) Otherwise, great investment.

With out doubt the most comfortable sweatshirt I have ever had. I love everything about it. It is soft, warm and has a hood.
