I've owned the Northwoods Wool Vest for about a month now. The "5th" star might be there if I was in a position to speak to longevity.
I love this vest. It's very warm, unique, highly functional and rather dashing if I dare say.
The pockets are great, the buttons are fastened like a limpet in the breakers and the overall construction seems top notch..........love it!

Exactly what I was looking for in a quality vest. Good fit, neat stitching, plenty of pockets, thick wool. The green color is a nice earthy tone. Cudos to LL Bean, again, for consistent quality!
The following is not a negative about the vest, just a fact of life, especially for mail-order garments: The crease at the top of the shoulders from being folded in packaging has not relaxed yet, will try steam iron. A bit frustrating, does not lay flat on top of the shoulders, hope ironing works.

I found this wool vest to be comfortable, well constructed and very warm. If you are the kind of person who likes to carry stuff with you, this vest is ideal. Many pockets of various sizes make it easy to leave your daypack at home. The rear cargo (game) pocket is large enough to hold a wind or rain parka. With that combination, you're good to go in almost any weather.

I bought this vest for my husband - he looks amazing in vests. The price was almost prohibitive - very expensive for a casual vest. I bought the gray and when it arrived neither of us were disappointed! All of the pockets were so cool and not at all bulky. The vest looks amazing on - my husband could not wait to wear it. *The 'game' pocket across the back is very interesting. There is also a hidden inside pocket on one side. Love it! Great purchase! The best part is that he can wear it outdoors or over a great woven shirt and dress it up for date night.

I was torn between this vest and the more expensive Filson all wool vest. I ordered the LL Bean vest and I'm glad I did. The wool is of good quality and the vest is well made. What,I believe, makes it superior to the Filson vest is all the pockets which makes it suitable for early season hunting.

This vest projects quality and class. Anyone with any discernment will see this is not your run of the mill vest. The wool is rugged, with a tight weave but very soft and not stiff in the least. I bought the red/black plaid and the colors are deep and vibrant and the pattern is sharply defined-no fuzzy plaid as on lesser garments. The interior piping is perfectly sewn - not usually the case in an unseen area. The pockets are of a unique design that I'm sure came second to their function. I am 5', 11" in height but I bought the tall version as I am close to the cutoff for the regular size. The extra 2'' length is perfect for me- I like the fit better than my reguler length vests. I thought about buying this vest for about a year; I figured the price was probably too high for the value. So glad I finally bought it.I am wonderfully satisfied with this vest.

The Northwoods Wool vest is well made,soft,comfortable and looks really spiffy. Lots of usable pockets and the map pocket on the back and inside pocket in front hold a ton of stuff. It is worth the rather steep price. Unlike other vests that I have purchased online.

I'm wearing this around town and in the house during a late-October wet. cold, snow-spitting day. As other reviewers point out this vest's back pocket provides a double layer of wool on your back which in turn provides extra warmth. The front pockets provide the same effect to a lesser degree.
The style from days gone by - you HAVE to go with the red plaid! - is perfect for anyone who enjoys classic Americana style. It looks great today over a camel colored - Heritage Chamois - shirt with the 100th Anniversary LL Bean boots. Being warm and having dry feet never looked so good. Just ignore the no-taste, jealous wag at the coffee shop who says this outfit looks like Elmer Fudd (That's MISTER Elmer Fudd to you, buddy.)
Execution and fit are excellent but I prefer a somewhat more dense, hard finish wool such as that used by Fil-on, hence just four stars.
Highly recommended for backwoods clothes horses who want some extra warmth but prefer not to wear fabric made from petrochemicals.

This is a beautifully made vest loaded with handy pockets. It would make a lovely gift for a hunter, photographer, any hobbiest, traveler; really limitless as to its versatility. Made a wonderful birthday gift for my husband.
