Rated 3 out of 5 by DFerreira Great features and construction, poor execution.
Like most LL Bean products, this bag is well constructed and looks great, plus it loaded with features (hydration port, scabbard, suspension trampoline back, pockets, etc). However, the pack fails in execution. Even though there are several pockets, most are just open spaces with no compartments and slots to store small items. All my smalls items that are placed in the pockets are loose and move around during transport. Like many other reviewers, the feature that disappointed me most is the scabbard. I spent a lot of time trying to secure my rifle/shotgun, but I could not get it to stay secure. I also spoke with an excellent LL Bean customer service rep who also was not able to figure out how the scabbard works. Once these issues are fixed I would give this pack 5 stars. LL Bean, please fix the scabbard.

Rated 4 out of 5 by MODC Excellent Frame / Limited Volume
Consider this a positive, if highly critical review. This pack is mostly frame. You simply can?t fit a whole lot into it. I got the Long version with a listed 1700 cu in (28 Liter) capacity. That?s less than most day-hike packs (30-40 Liter) and seems to be counting the volume of the external pockets - which encroach on the internal space if you put anything in them. There are cinch straps everywhere, but you really can?t stuff enough into the bag to justify using them. I can see how the rifle sling works, but doubt I?ll ever use it: For a single day hunting, I want my firearm shoulder-slung or in ready carry.
All that said, it?s got enough room for the essentials for a day out hunting and the frame - with all of its adjustments - balances the load beautifully. The pockets on the waist strap are great for items you want to have close at hand (multi-tool, headlamp, compass, ammo, etc.) and the waterproofing is excellent. I had it sitting on soaked leaves or snow for three days without getting any of the contents wet. I?m happy with the purchase as all of the competing packs in this price range are bookbag-style and do not have the robust frame, just be warned about the limitations of the bag?s available space.

Rated 5 out of 5 by CelticLassinDC Husband LOVED it but we chose to return it ...
...only because he felt he would not use it enough at the present time. Suggested I wait a few years until he can retire and hunt all sorts of game. It is well made, fit his 6'1" height well and loaded like a dream. If you need a pack this is it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Huntermedic Turn scabbard around
I have my pack set. The long one is a little big but I'll make due. The bladder pocket is a nice touch. Plenty of room for food, space blankets, spare clothes, socks, etc. I saw some reviews that were not happy with the scabbard for rifle/bow. If the strap is facing toward the outside turn the scabbard around now the pocket faces the outside and the compression straps hold your gun/bow onto the pack. I cut up an old gun sock and wrap it quickly around the gun and scope so scratches aren't a worry from walking.

Rated 3 out of 5 by woodsycabin not a good design
We ordered two, one for me and my husband, but both of them, the large and medium one did not fit well, All the straps and compartments were just to confusing, the back bar hit my head, and we felt over all it was not a good design. Something more simple would be better. we sent them back.

Well made backpack. Comfortable to wear, as the frame keeps it off of your back. Would have been nice if it had come with some instructions, as to what the individual pockets were designed for. Fits my wide shoulders better then most other packs.

Rated 5 out of 5 by RevMrBlack Versatile and Well Designed Pack
Bought this for a hunting trip into the backcountry, and I'm fairly convinced that you can fit *everything* imaginable into this pack. Carried extra clothing, both the water reservoir and also additional water bottle along with equipment for the hunt, emergency supplies and food - it was an excellent, compact and well designed pack.

Rated 4 out of 5 by Finnishboy Backpack Performance in Alaska
I just returned from a 13 day backpack hunting trip on Kodiak Island. The weather was snow, sleet and rain. The terrain was mesa's with acres of hummocks, tundra, scrub brush, streams and steep hills. This little pack performed great. As noted in a previous review, the rifle scabbard was basically non-functional as the method to secure the upper portion of the rifle could not be determined. I ended up placing the rifle into the pack against my back to secure it properly. Otherwise I would have rated it a 5 star.
