Rated 4 out of 5 by AKah good but not what I need...
This day pack would make an excellent addition for vacation travel. It is a very durable and handy item for your everyday needs and as a shopping tote.
I will be returning it, because I would like a few more interior pockets and some rigidity for an everyday back pack. I like the size, it just needs more stability and organization.

This is a little gem. Light weight. Good pockets for stowing variably sized items. Easy access to the pockets. Built in key holder. Perfect for running errands especially if you are on foot. Comfortable to the shoulders. This was a replacement for a long cherished and overused Columbia pack...it equals and surpasses that pack. Way to go L.L. Bean.

I brought this to use as a daypack when I was backpacking in Europe. I love that it collapses to almost nothing and can hide in a larger bag. It holds a fair amount of items- held my camera, jacket and other items with extra room I do wish that it folded into its own pocket- that's the only downfall (and reason for taking off one star).

Bought this pack as something that was thin and lightweight to pack in my luggage for our trip. Not only did it fit those requirements, it was the best bag for the trip as a whole. Two side pockets held waterbottles for easy access, slip pocket held the autograph books to find quick, less zippers means an easier time at the security checks, and best of all - packed full, weighing about 20 lbs - felt almost weightless on my shoulders. Never once did I have to pass the bag off for being too heavy. Small enough to take with you on all rides, nylon kept things dry from the little splashes, and mesh and cool on your back in the heat. A+++ LLBean.

Well designed, lightweight pack, except that the rear facing, external "shove it" pocket has no closure to prevent rain/drizzle from draining into the pocket and soaking it's contents. The pack would be improved by just eliminating the back flap pocket. I returned it.

I really like this bag. It is extremely lightweight and simple (I got black) so great for travel. I use my thermarest butt pad inside to give it shape and support against my back (and that also comes in handy when seats are hard or to use against the back), the mesh padding is perfect and I like the security of being able to use hipbelt and sternum strap so bag isnt grabbed. BUT THIS BAG NEEDS A CINCH DRAWSTRING ON OUTSIDE POCKETS! I tied my brand new travel umbrella string on strap so I wouldnt lose it but it was gone anyway. TO LL BEAN: It would hardly add any weight to put a little drawstring with a cinch piece of plastic to outside pockets. (so people wont lose things from the pockets). Please let me know when you add this feature.

Rated 5 out of 5 by IrishPrincess Perfect for day hikes!
I am a hiking newbie and planned a trip to visit several of the Utah National Parks. As a photography enthusiast, I knew I would be incorporating 1-5 mile day hikes at each venue I planned to visit to shoot those scenic vistas.
I wanted a lightweight backpack to hold some emergency and first aid supplies, flashlight, an extra camera lens, water, and a layer for cooler temps. The Stowaway pack was the perfect fit!
There are two small zipped pockets accessible from the outside of the pack. I used the larger of the two to hold a small flashlight and my car keys. The smaller pocket just fit my cell phone. My one disappointment and suggestion for improvement is to have at least one small to medium sized interior pocket within the large center of the pack. I would feel more comfortable having money, credit cards and the like more securely protected. I also ended up putting my emergency supplies (first aid kit, aspirin, TP, and some ziplock bags) in a larger ziplock bag so they could be kept together rather than all loose in the big pouch of the pack.
While the size of a small backpack, this pack held quite a bit of items, including a medium pile fleece. The straps were padded and very comfortable, and adjusted for both a male and female carrying it.
I can't comment on the longevity, but it fared very well for over a week of use in some rugged terrain. Kudos on the real deep mesh water bottle pockets on the sides; we were climbing rocks and some steep inclines and they held securely in place.
Last but not least, this was very lightweight and packed easily in my airline carry-on.

Rated 5 out of 5 by MackinacIslandgirl Great lightweight backpack
Exactly what I was looking for. My other backpacks are designed for long durations when I need lots of gear but too cumbersome for day trips. This backpack is ideal. Plenty of room for all the things you may need during the day, including snacks, yet very comfortable. Side pockets for water bottles. Not too many compartments but enough. Nice zippered pocket with key fob. Padded straps. Great straps & closures at waist for stability. It even has a hook at the top in the back to keep the back straps together and from annoyingly slipping off your shoulders when hiking. You could easily pack it for later use at your destination.Well-built. The Vibrant Red is truly a nice vibrant color!

Used on a recent pilgrimage to Europe's shrines and especially liked the secure zipper interior compartment and the exterior pocket that held maps and sunglasses. Comfortable fit on back adjusts to any torso and allows for hands-free activities. Matches my old L.L.Bean anorak perfectly.

When in Freeport I went to L L to find a new day pack. The salesperson was very helpful and pointed out all the features on the one that I bought. He also adjusted the shoulder straps for me and showed me how it can be rolled up and packed in my travel bag.
