Rated 1 out of 5áby JerryY Could not stand the look any longer
I had three pair of the "new" versions, and after a year, finally donated them to a charitable organization.
The material was terrific; light weight, dried pretty quick, slightly rumpled casual look, but not too wrinkled.
But, they were so baggy, that I just couldn't stand looking at myself in them any longer. The last straw was during a trip to Scotland, where the weather was cold and damp. I saw myself in a store window, and that was it. Normally, I don't pay too much attention to fine points of my appearance in clothes. But these are simply awful. The comfort-waist works as described. From the waist down they are gigantic. They blow in the wind like sails, and get caught on anything that sticks out in your path.
And, the khaki color is just an awful, pukey, yellowish that cannot be made to "go" with any shirt, sweater or jacket.
This is very discouraging, since the pairs I had a few years ago fit much better, and the colors were more typical, with no trouble to match with other clothes. A great product gone bad. Sorry.

Rated 5 out of 5áby noshowups THE BEST PANTS I'VE EVER WORN!
This pant is perfect. Yes, I said, perfect. They fit and look great and I hope it stays in the catalog for at least fifty years. I already have 8 pairs and probably should have bought more. But how many? This is the best pant regardless of material and custom tailoring, too. Enjoy your pants...

Rated 5 out of 5áby DanS Better than the Cargo Tropic Weight
I like these much better than the Cargo version of the tropic weight. The fabric is very comfortable in the heat of the summer and these are certainly suitable for work in a business casual environment
For one reason why these are better, there is less bulk (no cargo pockets on the side) so they lie flatter and smoother. Also there are no "flaps" over the back pockets. This is good because on the cargo pants, the flaps over the back pockets do get wrinkled and creased up in washing and drying..
Now who wants to be ironing flaps on pockets in the middle of the summer? Not me!
Much cleaner lines without all the extra flaps and cargo pockets.
Please LL Bean, MORE colors in these!!!

Rated 2 out of 5áby ChicagoCustomer70 Don't Recommend Blue in Tropic Weight
Blue color fades quickly and color streaked after several washings in cold water. They are only good for work pants. Not up to the standard of tropic weight pants that I purchased in previous years.

Rated 1 out of 5áby TheVirginian Why no 46" waist?
I bought these pants numerous times over the years and they were great. But in recent years, someone decided that you should no longer carry them in a 46" comfort waist. Your Cargo pants (with the ugly pockets) made of the same tropic weight material come in a 46" comfort waist, but these do not. Other pants you offer come in a 46" comfort waist, but these do not. I would love it if someone could explain why these are no longer offered in a 46" comfort waist. Thank you!

While the fit was good. I washed them after wearing them a few times. The material looks fuzzy like someone took a wire brush to them. I sure hope that's not how they are supposed to look.
The pants are roughed up (brushed) and the fabric is patchy - smooth in some places and bear in others, like some of the material came off. I know 2 of the 3 buttons on the pants did. I looked at the stitching where the buttons had been and the thread is completely gone.. The material doesn't appear to be very good quality. I'm sending them back, buttons off and all.

The leg diameter on these pants is big - really big. They are very baggy with lots of excess material. I just want a plain pair of tropic weight pants for a standard size guy like Bean made for many years. No cargo pockets, pleats, side panels, or other such non-functional extras. Sure wish Bean would bring the old tropic weight plain front standard fit pants back? They were great! These went back.

Bought two of these for a trip to Florida last week, where it was still in the 90s. I had purchased the cargo version in Eucalyptus earlier and liked it. These are nice and lightweight, but purely informal wear (I can't see them for a 'casual day' at work). Compared to other vendors, I think they are a little pricey for the quality. My real complaint is that the British Khaki color is much more of a light mustard yellow. Even after washing these looked more like canary golf pants than anything khaki. I'm hoping that after a few more washings they'll be a little more acceptable. Had I not washed them before my trip the day after they arrived, I would have returned them.

Rated 1 out of 5áby buenamigo DO NOT BE FOOLED - NOTHING LIKE THE ORIGINALS !
First let me say that I have been a loyal LL Bean customer for going on 40 years. I have lost count of how many shirts and pants and other items I have bought over the years. But I must confess I am rapidly loosing faith . . . Regarding these pants: I have a couple pairs of the ORIGINAL tropic weight pants from several years ago that are starting to wear out. Those pants were a 6 oz. fine twill fabric with a great drape and comfortable loose fit for hot weather. They were made in Macau. Before those I had several other pairs of these pants, some maybe even still made in the States. This is how the lifecycle of these pants goes: 1) several years of office / business casual wear until they start to fray around the pockets and cuffs from so much use, 2) a couple more years as weekender and leisure wear until the fraying is pretty substantial and, 3) and finally ending up their well-worn life as knockabouts for home and yard work until they finally give out or are covered with grass stains, roof tar or whatever. About five years ago I tried a couple pairs of the new so-called tropic weight pants, that then only had elastic on the sides (but that's another tangent). These "new" pants only lasted a couple years total between casual and work wear, and they were more expensive to begin with, even on sale. However, desperate for some new pants I thought I would try again because I have not found anything similar to the "old" pants. Big mistake. The "new" pants are some kind of rough canvas material, not the fine twill of yesteryear. Now the elastic goes all around the waist, instantly making them grandpa pants unsuitable for office wear. I am sending them back post-haste. LL Bean if you are listening to your customers, BRING BACK THE ORIGINAL TROPIC WEIGHT PANTS, do not continue selling these imposters, which also should not be labeled as "tropic weight." Go back to your original suppliers of fine twill from several years ago and make the pants you should be making. And if you are still listening, you are in danger of loosing a long-time customer. I look forward to hearing some feedback.
