This limited-edition fly rod is a fitting tribute to the classic rods used by L.L. Bean 100 years ago. Handcrafted by Steve Campbell of the legendary Thomas Rod Company of Brewer, Maine, each rod requires between 50 and 80 hours of workmanship. The result is a stunning example of master craftsmanship that's certain to become a cherished heirloom and collector's item.
Thomas Rod Company started building bamboo fly rods in 1896, and has supplied rods for Presidents Dwight Eisenhower and Herbert Hoover, famous Rangeley fly tier Carrie Stevens and Hall of Fame baseball player Ted Williams. Built from the finest Tonkin cane, this seven-foot three-weight features the ultrasmooth "Thomas Special" taper for delicate dry fly presentations. Including the spare tip section, there are over 100 early 1900's-style intermediate wraps consisting of three strands of pure silk each to create a true vintage appearance. Marine-grade spar varnish protects the blank and creates a flawless finish. Stripping guides have traditional agate stone inserts with a nickel-silver frame; snake guides are bronzed stainless steel. Nickel-silver reel seat is adorned with an impeccable butternut spacer. Brass capped aluminum tube and cloth sleeve included. Spare tip section also included. Limited run of 25 individually numbered rods. Made in Maine.
