Rated 4 out of 5 by Hunttheeast Great for the money
I hunt in Northern NH and Northern NY (ADK) and generally put on 8-10 miles of walking in northern terrian a day. In the past I have hunted with a full upland vest and have always felt the weight of ammo, gear and game after a good days walk. The supsension in the vest is awesome! it's amazing how much weight you can transfer to your hips. I had 3 grouse, one rabbit and one large moose shed strapped to the vest and could barely notice it.I would have given it a five if the water bottle holders were easier to access, if the side zippers had a button/ snap to keep the zipper from opening (never did but it might?) and it was made in the USA. Would hands down recommend this vest to anyone else though. I would highly recommend buying the northweave blaze long sleeve to go with it as it lacks enough blaze for my liking.

by PAStreamgeek Old Model Thoroughly tested
I have been hunting with the older model Men's Pa'tridge Strap Vest for several years. I purchased the vest on clearance before the new model appeared. I have been very satisfied with the vest. A strap vest allows me to adjust my layers for the weather at hand; wet, dry, cold or warm. Range of motion is exceptional. The vest provides ample storage for shells, 2 water bottles, dog 1st aid kit and snacks. The straps are a handy place to clip your dog collar remote or handheld GPS. The waxed cotton (my older model seems a bit thicker than the new) is holding up well and gives a classic look. When it comes out of the closet, my Springer Spaniel goes nuts. I'm not sure why you'd use anything else.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Plumpicker48 Lightweight, comfortable and fits great!
I just got this vest and haven't worn it on a hunt yet but all indications are that I'm going to love it when I hunt pheasants in So Dakota this November. Because of its loose, comfortable fit I can wear just about any of my shirts, sweaters or wind-proof jackets under it without feeling overdressed or too bound up. Plenty of pockets for shells, gloves, water bottle and dog accessories and a roomy game pouch insure that I'll be able to carry everything I need very well. Thanks, LL Bean.

This vest is very well made and deisgned, lots of pockets that can actually be used and some nice traditonal features for opening rear pocket for bagging birds. Really nice materials. A very good price for the quality. It has one major flaw that makes it unusable, out of the box, for me. At 6' 3" tall I would have the bags centered at about my belly button, way too high. I will have to find someone to extend the straps before I can use the vest, I wouldn't recomend this to anyone over 5' 9 or 10 unless you are wiling to make this change. BC

Rated 5 out of 5 by 18497 Potential anoyance with game bag zippers
While I haven't actually used this vest I found the game bag zippers to have a little bit of a learning curve.
If you do not have the zipper "pull" pointing down the zipper will not stay up.
If the zipper pull is pointing upwards a small amount of tension on both sides will force the slider all the way to the bottom. A significant problem considering it's a game bag and will be stuffed full of birds on a regular basis.
To me it will be a nagging reminder to constantly check my zipper position. That's something I never thought I would have to worry about.
I need to mention this is a quality vest and I think I am going to enjoy it a lot.

Rated 4 out of 5 by RJ21 Nice quality
My wife purchased a vest for me after I already bought this one. I sent this vest back but the quality was very nice. 2 things I would like LL Bean to change is the button pocket. It's just hard to get in to. The vest came with Velcro straps for your shoulders which made it easy to adjust but pretty much everything I've owned with Velcro never last. Once dirt gets on it the Velcro eventually will quit sticking.

Rated 2 out of 5 by GRMI Not sure what they were thinking on this one
Rec'd as a thoughtful gift from a non-hunter but after trying to get it to fit for an hour decided to return it. Am 6' and 195 and rec'd a size M/L vest. When buckled at my waist the bulky foam strap interfered with gun mount and the built in foam back felt stiff and awkward. The vest was also difficult to take off, has a lot of stuff to hang up on brush and weighs about twice as much as my old llbean vest which is still going strong after probably 10 years. Just going to keep that one.

Rated 4 out of 5 by Newtobean101 Nice vest
I went with this based on other reviews as I was looking for something other than my traditional vest. Something less bulky. This vest delivers. It has a nice heavy oiled canvas. It fits well, I am 6' 2" and 200 lbs. I went with the med/large. The only thing keeping me from giving it 5 stars is the amount of space for holding shells. They only have 4 in each pocket, the rest of your shells need to just sit at the bottom. I like the double rows in each pocket of my traditional vest. A minor point, but it would make the product a 5 star in my opinion.

The Strap vest is the perfect vest for the way I hunt, it fits over the coat on the cold days and it great by itself on the warm days.
