Rated 5 out of 5 by BrooklineGal great coat for winter in New England
I hate down, and it is nice to see primaloft used instead of torturing little animals. This coat is warm, heavy, and great for Boston weather. It looks retro-1950's woodsy girly kind of style. I bought a retro looking hat at goorin.com which goes with this very nicely. Great buy. I am 5'2" and around 140 pounds, and well proportioned, I bought a small (smallest size they have) and it is a bit large on me. Wish they had had a XS, but all in all I really like it.

Rated 3 out of 5 by snotracker great looking jacket
A beautiful red plaid jacket just as it was described. Felt it would fit better if it had been sized different. The length of the jacket and sleeves were perfect but chest size and the fit in the arms were snug, not being able to have a long sleeve t-shirt underneath. I loved the look of this jacket as I had been looking for something like this for a while, but had to return it but didn't reorder the next size as I felt it would have been way to big and bulky.

Rated 5 out of 5 by nextepisode Perfect fit & construction & style
Seeking the "White Christmas" 1940's classic era look- I bought this in small. It is a fashionable (see Burberry winter line) boxy cut. As a petite the jacket hits at mid thigh and the sleeves are generously long. I had the sleeves altered at the elbow for length- yes and it looks sharp. Thank you LLBean for remembering we ladies BUY timeless classics well made and adorable.

Rated 2 out of 5 by mbmarks Not what i expected
This coat wasn't what i expected. I ordered a small and it was huge. I'm not a tiny person- 5'4 and about 135/140lbs. I was swimming in it, an it was very boxy, it didn't have any kind of feminine fit to it at all. Also it was very long. I was sad i had to return it because i really wanted a good plaid coat.

WOW!!! What a beautifully constructed, well designed, comfortable, warm jacket. It is honest and looks like what it is--a winter coat made to wear in the coldest weather; not a piece of chunky fluff trying to look like it belongs in Florida. Given the increase in winters bitter cold, this could become the most popular jacket in North America. I moved to Maine two years ago from NYC. and would feel very "top style" wearing this coat while walking down Fifth or Madison. Glad to get back to wool and away from polyester. Thank you LLBean.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Ptld88 Great Jacket
I have been reading the descriptions and reviews of all the winter jackets and coats, looking for something that would work for me without negatives that seemed to be problems. From the comments, this jacket stood out - and its Primaloft fill was a big plus. It just arrived, and I am delighted with it. The attention to detail is wonderful, the material is very high end, the zipper is sturdy and works easily (unlike with other Bean outerwear I have owned) and, though it isn't meant to be stylish, it has a very cool, retro look. It is clearly very warm, and constructed to be snug. I am set for another miserable winter if we are slammed again.

Rated 5 out of 5 by BrooklineGal love this coat
It was 12 degrees this morning when I first wore this coat. It kept me nice and warm. Love that it's mostly natural, with a primaloft fill. That is hard to find. It is a bit heavy, but it's well made. Love the brass ONE way zipper. I hate the two way zippers, they have no function other that total frustration when they stop working. I do have two bits of advice; MAKE A HOOD! How silly to make such a fine functional coat with no hood, and perhaps in a second color like a dark blue and black plaid. Otherwise I really love this coat, I hope it does well in the snow and rain.

I ordered & received this coat just before a severe cold snap where I live, therefore I wore it straight away. I ordered up a size (Medium) thinking that it would be a little large & room to wear a bulky sweater underneath. It fit perfect and is so warm that a heavy sweater is not needed. Nice plaid in red/black. The faux leather patchs embelishment in back is a nice touch but I'm not sure if there is a purpose for the snaps on the lower back. Not a criticism. A nice addition to this coat would be a hood or a deeper collar that could be turned up and snapped to block the wind & moisture. This is a great coat and is my new fave in cold, cold weather.

Rated 5 out of 5 by NEPennsylvania Amazing Jacket!
I just received this jacket as a Christmas present and love it so much that I wanted to write a review. I wore it outside to do morning barn chores (-3 F) and it is warm as can be! I find the fit very flattering and comfortable. The collar is the only reminder that the jacket is wool, though it didn't bother me at all as I was outside moving around.
Like everything else I buy at LL Bean, the jacket is very well made. I am around 5'6 and 118 and the Small fits great! I have longer arms so I did not have any problems with the sleeve length.

Rated 5 out of 5 by ktgirl30 The winter coat of my dreams
This arrived just in time for a New York City cold snap, complete with strong winds. It keeps me toasty warm and the style is reminiscent of classic 50s-era car coats worn by Greenwich Village artist types and outdoorsmen of the Pacific Northwest. I keep discovering details that surprise and delight me, like the ultra suede lining under the collar and pocket plackets and the pheasant pouch under the back pleat (a zippered compartment that would, traditionally, hold the birds you bagged).
If you want to blend in with the crowd, this may not be the coat for you, but if you want a classic coat that will never go out of style - one that turns heads because it is so cool - I recommend this coat whole-heartedly.
And it is amazingly warm!
