We purchased 1 solo and 3 tandem kayaks for our large family to paddle the waterways of Virginia Beach, Chesapeake and Suffolk, VA. I love these kayaks! They are easy to transport and store. The modular design is awesome! I love that the tandem converts to a solo. I have arthritis and wouldn't be able to put a kayak on the roof of my van. I also don't like pulling trailers. I don't have to do either to transport these modular kayaks. I often kayak with friends and I can bring boats for everyone. I have fit 3 solos and a tandem (9 pieces total) in my Honda Odyssey with the back seats down and the middle seats removed. I can also fit pieces for 3 solo kayaks and still have seating for 3. The pieces are light enough for me to easily load them into my van. I do wish they had better hand holds, but I have found the good places to hold while carrying them. These kayaks are very stable on the water. Two of my kids swapped places between a solo and the front of my tandem in the middle of the water with no problem. The seats and backrests are comfortable for the 2 or 3 hour trips I usually take. It is true that the solo doesn't track well on calm water, but I am getting used to it. It tracks better if there is a bit of a chop and the tandem tracks better than the solo. I am looking forward to many kayaking adventures exploring the waterways of Tidewater Virginia with family and friends in these wonderful kayaks!

Rated 5 out of 5 by singlemomtandemkayak THE single mom's answer to kayaking!
All of my friends (who have husbands to carry their kayaks around) were against my getting a boat that comes in pieces. I am so glad I ignored their advice!! They are not in my position. With a seven year old, it's just me trying to transport a kayak for two. No way could I put a tandem kayak on and off of my car by myself. I'd be finished before I even started kayaking. This boat is not only the solution, but it is also the best sit on top kayak with the best back support I have ever used. The three pieces fit INSIDE my Subaru with both seats down! So easy to put together. A little more difficult to take apart-but that's GOOD! Wouldn't want it to come apart in the water! The only change I would make to it is to attach some good carrying handles on the sides. That would make it even better. Especially for the middle piece which is bigger than the ends. But, I still give it five stars. Without it I wouldn't be kayaking much. And now that my daughter is back in school, I will use it as a single some days and leave the middle piece at home. The ability to make this boat as big or as little as is necessary is just genius! If you are considering this boat, you won't be sorry. Take it from me. I read reviews all the time, but I never write them. So unless something is superior (or abyssmally horrible) I would not write a review.

I purchased 2 of these sit on top Tandem kayaks. Have used them solo, tandem and as a 3 person unit. You can continue to buy the middle piece and add seating to your unit. We have used them in Lake Erie as well as the Gulf off of Florida. Never had any problem navigating thru the everglades, small bodies of water, larger, etc. They are also very practical since we were traveling in a 5th wheel motor home and they come apart to be packed into the unit for travel. We also have sit in kayaks so it just depends on the preference of the individual. Hope you enjoy them, I know we have.

When I first saw this kayak, I was so excited to have solved the dilemma of loving to kayak single, but occasionally wanting a tandem to bring someone along. We ordered and waited a month for delivery and finally took it out this morning on a local reservoir with no current and mild breeze. Our tandem kayak went in circles for a solid hour until I finally gave up and said we should head for shore. I walked in the front door to the house, with the kayak still strapped to the roof of the car, and called to say I was returning it. I can finally understand why some people say they hate kayaking, I would too if this had been my only experience. A tremendous disappointment and now we have to figure out how to box it back up for return. Do not get sucked in by the genius of the modular design, this thing is terrible.

Rated 5 out of 5 by moosaki Buy the Tandem
I bought this as my second Bean Kayak. I have used it Solo & Tandem. Sound design, moves fast in current & is maneuverable. The great aspect is that is is useful in both fresh water & salt water. I wish it had rod holders.

Rated 5 out of 5 by GSQUARE Great Design and Simple Fun
Have used my solo Tequila 3 times in the first week since receiving it. I'm new to kayaking and think this is a great boat. I own a 2011 Subarua Outback and it fits easily in the back with the rear seats folded down. No roof rack needed, and the two pieces are less than 25lbs each. The red color is more like tomato soup, but still very attractive. I'm 5'8", this boat size fits me perfectly, I can stretch my legs out flat and still use the last foot brace. The longest trek I've taken thus far was 2 hrs, and covered a little over 5 miles. Very comfortable, handled well in light chop on a large lake, and kept course in light winds. I highly recommend this boat.

Rated 5 out of 5 by campingcrazy Love the 65N Tandem sit-on-top Kayak
We got this kayak so it would fit in our Honda Odyssey Van along with all our other camping gear including folding bikes. We can fit 2 pieces sideways in our van behind the driver seat and the other lengthwise and still have lots of room for other camping gear. We've used this in lakes and in the sound and marshes around Beaufort and Hunting Island,SC. It stears well in tandem (haven't tried solo yet). We love the red color and the footings feel right. I'm past middle age and I can carry each of the individual pieces with little difficulty. Be careful however if you use a typical boat launch area that is concrete. It scuffs easily and we found that assembly and launching is easiest when it floats. The latches are very easy to clasp. Overall you'll love it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Pondpaddler Fun on ponds and small rivers
We live on the Oregon coast with a small river running through our tree farm. I have used the 65N both in a tandum and solo configuration. It literally takes seconds to put together. The scuppers drain water well and it handles easily under the moderate conditions we prefer. I love having the choice of tandum or solo. It is well made and durable. In a perfect world the three sections would have built in handles for easy transport of the pieces, but what a fine product it is. I look forward to years of use.

I bought this kayak at the very end of June 2011. I Like the fact that the kayak can be separated and put in the car for transport, and can be expanded to a two person kayak. I am probably going to buy the center section now. This is a very solid kayak, you can tell when you carry it. In the water I did not notice much flexing, and I weigh 220. The two pieces have enough overlap and contour that allows it to feel like one solid piece. You can also find videos on youtube about how this kayak goes together and solid it is.

Rated 5 out of 5 Brilliant concept!
Tandem or solo if you leave the middle bit! It's brilliant. I like how the design doesn't rely on a watertight seal between the sections. It's so quick to assemble and take apart and fit's in the back of my car. I brought it to my hotelroom on the 7th floor in the elevator!
I also love how it performs in the water. It's even better performing than my old kayak. Fast, stable and tracks well. Great product!!!!
