shobizherb FUN!
We finally took our new Kayak out. It tracked perfectly, rudder response was amazing. We had such a good time with it. We shopped around a long time before we settled on the Dirigo XT 155 Tandem Kayak with Rudder by Old Town. So glad we made he right choice!

It handles great. Is comfortable. Love the rudder. The only issue is that it is long and heavy for one person to load and unload. I use the packaway kayak cart and a flat bed truck. This way I don't need to lift it very high. Works pretty well.

Rated 3 out of 5 by kh11 Nice but BIG
We have had this kayak for awhile now and have taken it out often. The positives are that it is nice looking, spacious, fits 2 adults and a small child comfortably. The negatives are that it is really big and heavy. The picture does not do justice to the size. We have a single kayak as well which is about half the size. This kayak will take 2 people to move for sure but it is heavy. Getting it up on top of a vehicle is a real challenge and takes either 2 very strong people or 3-4 average. Also because it is so long, it does not secure very well on top of the vehicle. We have several different kayak racks and it doesn't feel secure in any of them. Our smaller kayak feels secure once tied in. With this one, we are always nervous driving. We have a Hummer so it is not like we are putting it on a small car either. I would say that if you did not have to transport this kayak (maybe you live on the water) or you had some kind of long trailer, it would be awesome. But if you plan on taking it on trips, you may want to reconsider.

This is a nice, versatile, kayak. I have a solo kayak but wanted one I could take the whole family. Me. my wife, and our 100 lb. Lab.
First trip out I moved the rear seat as far forward as it would go and put the dog in the front cockpit. Mother stayed home.
We live on a fairly large river with good current. The dog and I were able to paddle upstream and made it through some of the quicker water. The dog wasn't much help paddling but the rudder made up for it. Paddling slightly diagonal to the current and holding direction with the rudder helped keep the bow tracking straight.
My wife joined us on the next trip up river. I pushed the stern seat as far back as it would go and had room for the dog with me. Mother sat up front. I'm not sure we had the best trim but there is plenty of adjustment so I know we'll get it right.
I'm satisfied with the kayak, it's everything I expected and more.

Rated 4 out of 5 by birdsandkayaks Fun for the Whole Family and the Dog too!
Took tandem kayak out on the lake today and was very pleased. With two adults and one small wiggly child the kayak was surprisingly stable, and bouyant. There is plenty of room to paddle with a child in the stern cockpit, and she loved having her own cup holder and tray. When the wind whipped up, the rudder worked as expected. The rudder is pretty much installed except for a few final steps, although it did not arrive with installation instructions, but I found it online. Rudder pedals are easy to adjust while sitting in the boat. The seats are comfortable with a built-in water bottle holder. This kayak even comes with a drain plug! 3 layer poly seems easier to ding than my old single ply. Stern bulkhead compartment stayed dry--wish they made one for the bow. A spray skirt cannot be used when a child is sitting with you, but your paddling partner can wear one. The boat is a conversation starter, and the sunrise color is appealing. L.L. Bean's customer service was helpful. Arrives via freight with a four hour delivery window, so be prepared for a BIG truck.
