These shorts are great in all but one very annoying aspect. The button is too large for the hole and/or the hole is too small, making it very difficult to unbutton. I suspect the elastic in the waste is a factor, working against efforts to unbutton. The problem described will also hasten failure of the thread. I came close to returning but my wife and I like the fit and appearance so much that she offered to replace the button with a slightly smaller one.

Rated 4 out of 5 by BeaninBrooklyn Get rid of the crease!
I like everything about these shorts except the permanent crease. I bought two pairs, and I like the fit and the fabric, but I don't like the fact that they are permanently creased. The crease makes them a little to formal for most of the times I wear shorts. I would strongly consider buying two or three more pairs if they were available without a crease.

Rated 5 out of 5 by ShortJoe Great fit, comfortable, good length for short legs
I will be buying every color LLBean can come up with in this short. I measure 38in waist, but by advise from another review ordered a 37in waist. The all over fit is perfect for my body. Trim lines, no baggy leg or rear. The fabric and fit gives the short a dressier look, although I will wear them golfing too. LLBean is the best source for 6 in inseam shorts.

Bought two pair for my hustand and he loves them! They fit perfectly and don't wrinkle or get sloppy looking. Will buy more in the future.

I am disappointed that the top front pockets are no sewn leaving a hole that can be torn rather easily.
Your light-weight tropical shorts have the pocket completely sewn shut.

Rated 4 out of 5 by adrondax Nice short, but...
In the early to mid Aughts, LLB's quality went down and I began buying elsewhere. One manufacturer sold a trouser with the hidden comfort waist, but not a short.
When I saw the short available at LLB - and at a very reasonable price - I bought a pair for evaluation. I wore it for about two weeks. I purchased a size down and found the fit excellent. The material is good as well. Soon after, I ordered two more pair, in other colors.
However, I have one complaint. the buttons are cheap. Not long after i placed the second order, the button snapped in two as I was closing the shorts. Two days later, the stitching failed and the button cam off completely. Now I am faced with a dilemma - to return the shorts for full refund or to replace the buttons with something of quality.
I'll choose the latter due to the excellent fit..

Rated 3 out of 5 by jwh44 No longer carry the pleated version?
I was disappointed to find that the pleated version is no longer carried in the 8" inseam. For me, the 6" inseam is too short; I also like the look of the pleated version better than the plain front version.

Rated 5 out of 5 by RealLLBeanfan Great Shorts
Having just lost a lot of weight I had no shorts which fit. A regular LLBean customer I decided to give these a try and love them. Shorter than most - which I like - and with that great expandable waist line, I liked the first pair I tried so much I've ordered three more. Great item.

Rated 4 out of 5 by NapervilleRon Nice, But Run Big
The shorts are nice, but I was surprised that they run so big. I ordered my normal size -- which normally is a bit snug -- and they won't even stay up around my waist (I probably will have to go down one, maybe two, full sizes).

I'm in the same prediciment as the AtlantaBuyer I'm 5' 10" tall; Short legs with a long torso. These shorts are good I have them w/6" inseam but I wish you made them with a 4" or 3" inseam then I would consider them "shorts" ; the flex waist band is fantastic it gives you great flexiblity for climbing, bending, etc.. I don't have to pull them up before I climb so they don't drag or grab on the front of my thighs.
