Rated 5 out of 5 by Westernfb Nice Casual-Use, Multipurpose Bike
I purchased this bicycle in Autumn 2010 but didn't start using it until about 2.5 years later. I am around 6' 3", 215lbs and 50 years old. The XL fits me pretty well, although I had to extend the seat more than I expected. I did not find assembly difficult. Gears allow climbing hills without too much straining, and shifting among them is not difficult. Adjustable handlebar height and angle has been a plus. The seat is relatively comfortable but still felt like a bed of nails towards the end of my first long trail ride (I did not wear padded bike shorts, thinking that the seat was cushy enough). The bike is as light or lighter than a friend's expensive, trendy brand. I thought the bike was fine for a day out on a nearby "rail trail" (packed earth, crushed stone, a few bumps, and some mud). On my first long ride (55 miles on the rail trail), the bearings in one of the pedals went bad. Bean had replacement pedals to me (for free) within a week. Really appreciated that. I have taken some short runs in nearby neighborhoods (paved roads), and the bike has been fine for this. If I were going to ride longer distances on paved roads, I would consider using a bike with narrower tires. I have purchased some snap-on mud guards from Bean for rainy/muddy conditions. I will review them after some use.

I love this bike - it's so comfortable. I get a lot of compliments and people are surprised to know that LL Bean sells bicycles.

The assembly was alright, but after you get the breaks and everything tightened well you should be fine that was my only problem. And the medium is one inch too high for me with the reflector on so I took it off no big deal to some people but that little drop made it comfortable for me. Great bike it's ll bean can't go wrong buy this bike if you need something that you want to last and get you around smoothly.

My wife and I are in our low-mid 50's and not exactly fanatical athletic types, but we wanted something that would keep us active and be enjoyable at the same time. We originally saw these bikes in the store on sale, but we had no way to get them home at the time. We looked around for something similar at other bike and sports shops, but nobody had exactly the same thing in any price range, let alone at this one. We finally got a good bike rack and pulled the trigger on two of these Acadia's -- a men's and a woman's.
These bikes are very comfortable for casual riders like us without being 'old farty' -- more cushy than road bikes and even other hybrids, and easier rolling than mountain bikes. They're not too heavy, and the mechanicals -- brakes, shifters, derailleurs -- work flawlessly and smoothly. There's a huge range of gears, including super-low that I swear would allow you to go vertical. Both the seat post and front fork are sprung to help take up the shock if the road gets bumpy, features we found very rare in other models at this price point.
We are both extremely happy with this purchase.

I have only taken it out once but the bike ride was smooth and comfortable. Instructions were clear. Gears worked smooth. I think the bike was priced right.

Rated 2 out of 5 by Gasport Did not work as expected.
Purchased the Acadia Cruiser to use while recovering from shoulder surgery. Needed a stable bike and this looked like it would work.
Assembly was okay but not as easy as stated. The cable for the rear derailleur was not bent and rubbed against the crank arm and had to be bent to stop the rubbing. The real problem initially was with the seat. I noticed a squeaking in the seat after a few rides and it just became more noticeable as time went on. I called service and they were great and sent me a new seat. I installed this and again I had the same problem. This time the service people sent me a different brand seat and seat post and that did the trick.
I also have a grinding noise coming from the rear gear area. The only gear that I can ride in and not hear the grinding sound is the next to highest gear. As the bike is geared rather low, I do not use many of the gears as there are not enough hills around where I bike to have to downshift into the lower gears. This is rather annoying and I have been unable to pinpoint the exact cause. The nearest LLBean Store is 45 plus miles so bringing back to have it fixed is not an easy option. I suspect I will have to bring it to a local bike store and have it checked out. Unfortunately, I will wind up having to pay to get the problem resolved.
Other than this, the bike is stable, rides nicely, and the gears are easy to shift. If it were not for these problems I would give it a higher rating.

Rated 5 out of 5 by NorthTexan54 Very nice bike
We purchased this bike recently while it was on sale for 20% off and also used our coupons, so we got it at a very good price.
We ordered it by phone on a Monday night and received it via FedEx the following Tuesday. It arrived in good shape and took about an hour to assemble. The only problem I had was mounting the front wheel/tire. After disconnecting the front brake cable, attaching the wheel/tire, and trying to re-connect the brake cable, I couldn't get it back in, so I had to loosen the other brake cable to get the first cable reconnected, but this was not a big problem.
We bought this bike for my wife and I both to ride. We may get another one in the future. We bought the large size. I am 6' tall and my wife is 5'8" and it fits us both.
It rides very smoothly. All the gears work and it shifts easily, although there is slight "chatter" when the rear derailleur is on "4." The upright ride takes some getting used to after riding a mountain bike, but it is more comfortable me, now that I'm in my late 50's.
I have ridden it only on paved roads so far, but look forward to taking it on some smooth trails to see how it performs. Very pleased so far.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Cruzer61 Nice Bike But
Nice Bike--however, when I opened the Box to assemble it, I couldn't even begin Step One because the Quick-release Front Skewer didn't have the adjusting nut and the springs were not even on it. I had to call the toll-free number to get a complete skewer in order to put on the front wheel! The correct part came two days later and the assembly was then a breeze. I can't believe such an important part was not originally in the parts box--someone didn't pay attention to their "check list."

Just got back from my first extended ride and I'm loving the ability of this Crusin' style bike to sit upright. My 50-year old body is just not equipped to be hunched over any more.
When the box arrived, I was initially intimidated by the "warnings" from the manufacturer (Schwinn) saying that you needed a pile of tools that I did not have and that they recommended having a professional bike shop put it together. In the end, none of this turned out to be true--it went together easily and only required a 6mm Allen wrench, an adjustable wrench for the pedals, and a screwdriver for the reflectors. All the difficult stuff was pre-assembled. Took about 90 minutes but I went methodically.
It does seem to me that it would make sense for the bike to come packaged with the needed 6mm Allen wrench. Add that to your to-do list LL Bean. :)
