We bought the bike for our four year old grandson. I just assembled it and was very pleased with the quality of the bike. LL Bean and Schwinn fulfilled my expectations for quality. Instructions were easy to follow. You will need a few metric Allen and open end wrenches.

Impossible for a child that still needs training wheels to ride this bike.
The training wheels do not adjust up or down.
Only one position which is too high.
Child has to ride the bike leaning over to one side which makes it impossible to peddle.
Even had her older cousins try to peddle. Way to hard.
It is not an issue that the bike is too heavy... but that the training wheels cannot lower to balance on both.

After reading the single existing review of this bicycle I feel obligated to offer a grandparent's observation.
This bike is several steps up from the entry level small two wheelers, with training wheels, sold at toy stores. It is indeed heavier than the cheaper bikes but that is a good thing offering stability once the child learns he/she has to use their own little legs to make it go.
My now 5yo granddaughter started out with a "little tykes" starter bike and eventually learned she had to propel it. She got the LLBean 16" Ridge Runner for Christmas and will progress to training wheels off with this extremely well made bicycle.
This bicycle is worth every penny of the LL Bean model(s) price. Just make sure your child, boy or girl, is ready to use their own power to propel it.

My first bike was a Schwinn, wanted to keep up the tradition with my daughter who liked the puprle version of this bike.
Bike is over-engineered. It's heavy, really heavy for a 4 year old. She has a hard time getting it going and maintaining speed on inclines, and she's an athletic little girl.
The chain rattles and clicks inside the chain cover, it's loud and distracting. The video's of her first bike ride have no audio...just lots of rattling and clicking.
After much frustration, and lots of clickety-clacking down the driveway, we headed to a large toy store chain and bought a bike that was 1/2 the price but twice as easy to ride. Will it last as long? Who cares, she'll outgrow either of them in a few years anyway. The Ridgerunner will be going back to LL Bean. Save your money and get something else.
