Rated 5 out of 5 by Granny39 Great Coat!
Glad to find a waterproof, breathable, windproof shell that I can layer when temp is less than 45. Has all the features I was looking for: many convenient pockets, adjustable, non-removable hood, adjustable cuffs, long enough, lightweight, and stuffs in its pocket.

Rated 3 out of 5 by Stevenson Excellent rain protection
This jacket is an excellent outer shield for rainy weather but the lined version is very difficult to put on as the lining catches on sweaters etc. that one uses for layered protection. I would recommend the unlined version.

JoeVA Excellent while it lasted!!!
I had this jacket for about 3 years, tested it several times in different weather conditions and countries and always performed 100%, but unfortunately during my last trip to South America the inside material (with the graphics) began to peel off around the shoulders, not sure why ( perhaps because of the backpacks ?), everything else ( LLBean baselayers, Gore-Tex hikers....) performed outstanding!!! Just purchased the Pathfinder Shell, I hope it will last longer. By the way, I left the jacket back there and completely forgot about the 100% satisfaction guarantee policy!!!!!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by DonM Great Rain Coat
Great rain coat. This coat replaced a rain coat I had for years. I wore it the day after I received it in a big rain storm. It kept me perfectly dry. Although, I exchanged the coat for one size up which fits me better.

This jacket makes you sweat when it is humid out and over 50 degrees it also makes you very cold when it is under 50 degrees. It's like wearing the Flu!

This product is excellent. Light weight. Perfect for the spring, summer, and fall. It is also great to wear a hoodie under it for those chilly days.

Exactly what I was hoping it would be, lots of pockets and love the way the hood keeps the wind out and the hood also has a small bill to shade the eyes should the sun come out!! Great jacket for rain or just a windy day.

Rated 5 out of 5 by extratuf Excellent rain jacket!
About a year ago, I ordered this rain jacket to replace aging and leaky GoreTex coats and a couple of lighter weight coated nylon jackets. This jacket is the best. It has great pockets inside and out. The hood covers well and accommodates my knit caps. The hood tightens up with the zipper pulled up and stays in place despite the most severe wind. It's a great jacket for town and the trail. I would recommend it to anyone who braves wet weather.
I live on the wet end of the Columbia River Gorge, and we get about 80" of rain/yr, mostly in the fall. Rain gear is something you depend on.
I bought a small (my normal coat size), and it fits well with enough room for a warmer layer below.

Rated 5 out of 5 by OceanGuy The best rain jacket for your money!
Seriously - this is the best rain jacket I have ever owned- in fact I have two and I also have the one with the fleece lining. They are so nice that you can wear them as a normal windbreaker too.
I have also had experience with another really popular name brands - $100 jackets- I had two and the white membrane on the inside in both over time started to delaminate... Very disappointing- even after taking very good care of them and only wearing them during casual times.
On the other hand- i bought the ll bean jackets for more adventurous activities and work- not for casual wear- I am continually surprised by the way the ll bean jacket holds up! Its still like new after 3 or 4 years of use! I stayed super dry during Sandy with it too! Also keep in mind ll beans lifetime guarantee- its the best out there! I once had a pair of waders replaced -no questions asked! Not to many companies stand behind their produces anymore the way that ll bean does!!! Don't even think about any other companies rain jacket- just order this one! You will not be let down- and you'll stay drier - longer then the other guys!!! It would be great if they made this jacket in an anorak pullover style someday too! THANKS LL BEAN!

Rated 3 out of 5 Waterproof but not as breathable as could be.
Bought this last year, so I would be able to review from experience. I used this shell hiking the Front Range, mostly in Rocky Mountain Park, and a number of the Wilderness areas. Waterproof = 10, the fabric is impermeable, and the seams are well sealed, Windproof = 10, when you're above 11,000 ft. the weather can change dramatically very quickly. In 50+mph winds, the jacket performed well. Where it falls down is Breathability. A 3 at best. I'm well aware that "dry" is a relative term when hiking, but after 5 min of hiking in windy wet conditions, you feel like your in a Ziploc baggie. disappointing, since I also have LL Bean hiking boots that have the Tec 2.5 liners. The boots are excellent and keep my feet dry. This Jacket needs Pit zips or a better liner to breath better. Overall, the Shell is a good product, and I would and have recommended it to friends, but not for extended wet conditions in the Mountains.
