I"ve had one of these canteens for a while. I left it in a hotel room. I ordered another one immediately. The size is perfect. It has a wide mouth for filling. The flip top is easy to operate. It's easy to clean. Can't go wrong.

I like the lightness of this simple, basic water bottle. My only complaint is that the flip-up top you lift to sip through sometimes detaches. It's easy to re-attach but still annoying when that happens.

I have the original Bean canteen but already like this one better.
It still has a wide mouth for ice cubes and the flip top is much better than the screw off cap.

This canteen is a great way to save the landfills. I refill this with water the entire work day. Looks better on my desk than a water bottle. :)

Perfect size. Well made but when drinking my nose is jammed against the drinking port cap. Cannot drink from side because of shape of opening. I might add my nose is not oversized! Very uncomfortable to use.

I got one of these to take in the car and to use when I am on my exercise bike every day. It is perfect. I fill it with ice, add some water, and off I go.

The bottle is solid and fits in my bike carrier. The flip lid is easy to use.

I love the LL Bean bottles because they are sturdy, BPA-free and recyclable. I thought this one would be good for my daughter to take to school, but it did not work out because the top cover opens too easily and then you can imagine the result: wet backpack and wet books. So I decided to use it myself, but what I noticed is that the grey plastic piece inside the cover retains an odor. I only use this bottle to carry water, so no other drinks that could go bad. I've washed it by hand with lots of soap and even put it in the dishwasher, but the smell is still there. As you drink, the cover is right in front of your nose, so it is not really pleasant. The choice of plastic here is bad. I hope LLBean can improve the design, for I do love the shape of it because it is easier to hold, even for small hands.

The earlier model with the sport top wasn't leak-proof, chittered like a hamster bottle when used, and late in its life took to spitting at me whenever I opened it.
The new design is much better...a little harder to take a long drink out of it without running the risk of drowning, and it doesn't leak unless you turn it upside-down.

Rated 2 out of 5 by OnionBob The non-spill proof canteen
My wife and I were looking for a water bottle to carry in our lunch bags for school. We looked at all the "canteens" that Bean's had and thought these would be perfect for their physical size and volume of water it held. When they arrived (one green and one silver) we were thrilled. They were well-made, sturdy and exactly the size we were looking for. We couldn't wait for Christmas break to be over so we could use them.
When we went to wash them prior to using, we noticed a scary little line in the instruction sheet stating that they were NOT spill-proof (aka watertight). We couldn't believe it. We filled them and laid them sideways like they would be in our lunch bags and, sure enough, they weeped water. Slowly, but steadily. When I called Bean's they said they were intended to be "upright" canteens, like for a cup holder in a car. It's too bad that the catalog information did not say that.
However, Bean's was gracious as ever and accepted our returned "upright" canteens, even though my wife's had been engraved with her name. And they helped me select a more appropriate canteen that will fill our needs.
So if you need a real nice "upright" canteen these are for you. If your canteen might be laying sideways from time to time, don't buy this one.
