Rated 4 out of 5 by Nancela67 Decent Wheels for Backcountry Portage
In a nutshell:
Cart seems well made but a bit too flimsy for the "300 lb" weight limit as advertised. In fact, each wheel says the weight limit for it is 125 lbs, which would make the weight limit more like 250 lbs than 300. We loaded it with an 87 pound Old Town canoe and probably 125-150 lbs of gear, centered over the wheels, and portaged it 1/3 of a mile on a rugged trail. We didn't break the cart, but it really seemed inadequate to bumping such a heavy load over large rocks and tree roots on rugged terrain. Also, it was exhausting, so we portaged the second canoe nearly empty which was much easier and the cart seemed to appreciate the lighter load.
The strap enclosed is completely inadequate for securing the canoe to the cart for use on rough terrain. The cart would hit a rock or root and either slide backward on the canoe, or (even worse) rotate sideways beneath the canoe. We wound up using a system of four hook-on ratcheting tie-downs, two on each side of the canoe, one on each side hooked to a forward thwart or seat and one hooked to a rear thwart or seat. This system of four straps prevented both forward-backward motion and rotation. Perhaps LLBean could recommend a set of four similar straps, sold separately, so that people might be adequately prepared.
Otherwise, the cart is relatively light, it doesn't take up too much room in the canoe, and handled portaging an empty canoe just fine. I'm satisfied with the purchase.

Just took this cart through Section 8 of the NFCT, and it was key for portaging between lakes. It easily fit in our canoe (Old Town Penobscot 174) and the set up to portage was very fast/easy! Its durability was especially impressive on the 3+ mile Rapid River portage, easily going over the gravelly/rocky/rooty up- and downhill path and through 6-inch deep mud and shallow streams. The cart was probably holding up about 200lbs between boat, food/water jugs, and gear, and it still held up to drops over rocks and thick tree roots. We were seriously impressed with its ruggedness, as folks with lighter set-ups either had breaking plastic wheels or broken frames. The only maintenance we needed was to tighten some slightly-loosened bolts on the wheels at the end of the portage and wipe off the mud. I'd give it 10 stars if possible.

As usual I am very pleased with my purchase from L.L.Bean. The cart is very sturdy and carries my 16 foot canoe with my paddles and fishing gear inside. The price is lower than some similar carts I've seen, and as of this writing free shipping. My first trip to Beans was as a child and I'm 63 now, I have always been pleased with their products and service.

Rated 5 out of 5 by MangoMystoOK So happy we purchased this transport
We are spending this winter 1-1/2 blocks from the Gulf Coast. This is the perfect transport for us. We are able to stack our 2 Ocean Kayak sit on tops on this device, along with our paddles, seats, life jacks, beach chairs etc and easily wheel it over pavement to the beach (actually my husband does this - I just tag along). Once we get to the sand dunes, I grab the kayak handle at the rear to help move through the soft sand. Once we are back on packed sand, it becomes a one person project again.
This works as we hoped it would -- it folds and easily is chained to solid post to insure that it is waiting for us on our return. We received many compliments and much interest, especially when we posted a picture on social media. Thanks LLB!

I use this cart for taking all the parts of an outrigger canoe down a steep ramp and to the dock. The strap holds it all together so it can be down in one trip and assembled near the water. We have tried the smaller carts, but this one works perfectly.

Rated 5 out of 5 by coachc works for me
Befoe I ordered this I read a couple reviews that slammed the cart and kickstand. I love this thing and do not understand the negative reviews. I literally live on a river and kayak two or three times a week. I transport 12, 13, and 14 foot kayaks from my house to the river and then back. No problem with this cart. It is well designed with the adjustable rails on top, has great ground clearance and rolls easily. What is not to like. Great product.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Rexx4Rebel Used as a trailer behind an ATV
Rigged up a mount on my ATV and pulled the cart with canoe about four miles on a tote road. The going was tough with all the muck, rocks and blow-downs in the deep Maine woods.
The cart made it with two straps and those tied off to the canoe. My home made mount didn't do so good.
It'll go just about anywhere your ATV can go.

Rated 5 out of 5 by ShopsForSpouse So far, So good!
We ordered this to help us move our new 80 pound canoe. It was easy to put together and takes up little room. I can't carry half the load (40 pounds) to move the canoe (despite my husband's "encouragement" : ), so this is a great help in making the canoe far more portable. It looks good and performs well - we have only used it a couple of times but are looking forward to getting lots of future use from it. Thanks for saving my back!
