This is what I've been waiting for. This portage cart is what dreams are made of. It works great as a canoe carrier. But it works better as a portage cart for my camping (not backpacking) gear. It's just the right height so that with an extension bar,I will be able to connect to my bike as well. The very best feature on this is the fold down stand that keeps it level while your loading/unloading. I have had up to 200+ lbs on it and it seems to perform better with more weight than less. I couldn't have built one that is this strong and lite. I also like how the wheels fold up without having to remove them. I've looked high and low this is the best portage on the market hands down.

Using on Coleman canoe. Recently took it 1 mile into woods (over poor dirt road) to a pond to fish. Rolls easily and is fairly effortless if load is properly balanced. Strap supplied was too short - so got two appropriate straps. For a long and/or bumpy journey, recommend two straps to prevent canoe yaw during transport.

It has made it possible to go kayaking without waiting for someone to help me transport to the water. It did take me a little bit to assemble the wheels. I'm not use to doing this type of work. I definitely woud buy it again.

Well made, easy to put together, this is our second purchase for our second kayak. I just wish it had straps that were easier/quicker to do a tie down my kayak. I will modify mine with some quick snap straps.
100% better than some other carts we have used, so worth the money. Rolls easily over tough terrain; properly balanced, it is effortless to move the kayak.

Difficult to balance kayak; tipped forward or backward. Often tipped over, especially when turned either way, right or left. Returned item because of dissatisfaction.

I love this cart! I bought it over a year ago to use when I don't have a paddle buddy to help carry my kayak or canoe. I have used it many times with sea kayaks, Hobie kayaks, and partially loaded 17' canoes traversing a 300' long, hilly, tree root exposed deer track with a smile on my face and not a single expletive(once I discarded the included strap and used the same ratcheting strap that I use to secure my vessels for car transport).
I've also used it on city streets/bike trails when portaging in cities and lastly on a 2 mile portage over a wide, stoney & driftwood covered beach and up a steep and very bumpy trail. My husband's "high tech" kayak cart self destructed on the same 2 mile portage and I am now buying him the "right kayak cart" that he didn't buy when he should have-would've saved him from reciting every known expletive.....
The kick stand is very helpful when loading/unloading and while it doesn't fold up tiny, I haven't had a problem lashing it to my kayaks/canoes. I've used the cart to both push and pull depending on the terrain.
The cart is quick to rust(though cleaned & stored inside), as in a bike that I've owned for 30 years has less rust.....
Overall a great cart. Wish it were made in the USA. I'd be willing to pay a bit more .....especially if the product wasn't so prone to rusting!

Rated 5 out of 5 by rouser Awesome for Kayaks
We have had several different types of wheels for our kayaks and none worked as well as this cart. It's great. We were able to get two kayaks on top of each other down to the beach even through the sand effortlessly as well I was able to take one down by myself which I've never been able to do before with the old front or back wheels. I highly recommend this to anyone dragging a kayak around.

by MEpaddler Not as pictured
So my new canoe cart showed up today, and I immediately was disappointed in the tires. They are not the tires shown in the pictures depicted on Bean's or any retailers site including the manufacturer.. They are not knobby and are really more like a hybrid commuter tire. Can't wait to see how quickly the treads pack up with mud and offer little traction. I called Seattle Sports immediately and they said the pics were from the prototype model. Really? I know two other folks with this cart that have knobby tires on it. The reason they changed it in my opinion was based on the fact that this cart is part of their new bike towable canoe cart and they wanted tires with a lower rolling resistance when towed behind a bicycle. Other than that the cart seems built very sturdy. I will be using this next weekend on some 1+ mile portages and I'll update my review then. I just want folks to know that based on the tires this is not an all terrain canoe cart anymore. Oh and when you open it you may want to store it outside over night. The tires have a very potent chemical smell.

Rated 4 out of 5 by ussottawa Had to replace axle nuts.
The axle lock nuts that came with the cart were too large to use - meaning that although of the correct thread size, the outside diameter of the nuts ran into weld spots on the frame and made it impossible to secure the wheels properly. I replaced the nuts with some of a smaller outside diameter from a local hardware store and was able to secure the wheels properly.
The frame appears well made and secure, and made to transport a canoe at a comfortable height.
The one strap supplied may not do the job and require some thinking as to how to secure the canoe to the cart.
Have not used the cart yet, but expect, once fitted, it will work better than most, (Considerable searching & researching on the web revealed that most carts of various kinds are afflicted with problems.)
A tad more attention at their factory could have resulted in a perfect cart.....

Cart adjusts to curve of boat, is sturdy, easy to handle, small enough to load in boat. Not always straight rolling, but could be operator error. Love the kick stand and the strap that holds boat to cart.
