I bought this rain coat in Feb. 2014. It's been dry in California between then and this wet winter. Now, I've been wearing it a few days a week. Today, I noticed that a place in the hood was peeling off. Today, I returned it. I have an old pre-waterproof-breathable era long slicker from a famous maker that's still waterproof and that's good for outdoors and daily town life, so I don't need a replacement yet.

Rated 3 out of 5áby LAFISHERMAN Lining is not durable enough
I am not writing this review to bad-mouth the coat, just to get LL Bean to make it better.
The lining is not durable enough if used on a regular basis, in my opinion. I use it every weekend when fishing and have purchased 3 of these. They last a year or less, I maybe had one that lasted a little over a year. I've had the lining starts flaking off where the hood and coat connect, under the arm pits, and where you sit down. It creates a real mess too when it does start flaking, little pieces of white plastic lining everywhere. Also wish they would make the lining a darker color so it does not look so dirty. They could also use a better quality zipper, never had one fail, but out of three coats one zipped up good and the other two were a pain at times.
Other than the lining and zipper issues it is a great coat. The length is perfect to sit without getting your behind wet, the velcro cuffs are easy, and the quick pull strings on the hood is nice too. The nylon outer shell is plenty durable. It works well for blocking the wind. It's not a heavy coat in weight which is good, but I could live with a little more weight if it was made more durable. I would recommend to a friend but with a lining disclaimer.
If you don't want to change the design of this coat, make another coat the same length and features except heavier...There's not a rain coat manufacturer on the market that makes a camouflaged rain parka for hunting or fishing with a long length that reaches your knees, they only make rain coats now that come to your waist, or to your mid-behind, and most have some kind of jacket liner to keep you warm that can get wet or muddy. Just need a good rain parka, and big enough to wear a coat underneath if it gets cold. If you pursued this, LL Bean would be the only company on the market that had one.

It is perfect! First, my husband is 6'6", and it is hard finding things with long enough sleeves (and on pants inseam). And he is lean, often if someone is really tall, the clothing mfr assumes big as well and the clothes are tents!. This coat blocks the biting winds, and keeps him dry - after all we live in the Pacific Northwet, and is roomy enough for a sweater underneath in cold weather. I highly recommend it

Other than the fact I had to return the first coat I ordered because of a malfunctioning zipper, I like the long length, good fit and hood, as it keeps the lower part legs, neck and head from getting wet.

Rated 5 out of 5áby IrisNClover Just what I've been looking for!
I have always wanted a black all-weather coat that looks good, but is weather resistant and has a hood. I found it in this coat! The zipper works wonderfully - I'm not sure what former reviewers ran into, but I'm known for my problems with zippers - and this one hasn't given me any. It looks great on, fits beautifully, keeps the wind and rain off. And I'm wearing it in Vermont and NYC! Love it.

We just received this and used it twice.
We bought this to have a lightweight waterproof jacket that's easily packable. It does all these things and fits well and and goes easily over my husband's suits. We bought XL Tall and it is roomy enough. Olive green is a nice dark color.
For several years we have had trouble with LL Bean zippers -they used to be much better in the old days. They are flimsy and hard to use - not solid feeling. We wish they would use better quality zippers as they did years ago.
Other than the zipper, this seems fine.

Rated 3 out of 5áby DCOriole Two big problems
Had this for a year and a half now. Zipper never a problem. However:
1) not enough Velcro on the sleeves (small boned people can be fat), and
2) the hood fabric and lining have cracked at the base and are peeling apart.
Other wise not a bad coat.

Very disappointed in zipper of fleece and unfleeced models. Would not purchase these faulty products again.

LLBean goes beyond in customer service. When I bought the Trail Model Raincoat there was trouble with the zipper on the first and the second one that they sent.
That is when the extra measure of LL Bean Customer Service kicked in. They had the warehouse people try the zipper until they got one that worked. I wore it grocery shopping today. It fit great, looked great, has a hood that fit over my Doolittle Raiders' Cap and even the side pockets have zippers to keep out the rain. There are Velcro strips as a back up to the zipper closure. It is a KEEPER!!
