This should have been a 5 star product. However, thanks to the info I got from reading the 1 star reviews, I was ready to correct the main complaint (of the very poor waist band lock) before it even arrived. Once I replaced the foam lock from the waist band with a 3 cent plastic push spring lock I took from a cheap pair of gloves, the rain pants became an instant 5 star product.
The 3 star review I'm giving them is for LL Bean. Shame on you for continuing to make and sell such a poorly designed product particuarly after so many people have all ready complained about the defective waist band and even offered such a cheap way to fix it!

Rated 4 out of 5 by OldtimerinPA Basic, simple, and dry
I bought these rain trousers and a matching rain shell for wind and rain protection while backpacking the Skogar and Laugavegur Trails in Iceland. I was seeking simple, light, basic wind and rain protection and that is exactly what I got. That is indeed fortunate, as Icelandic weather in the high volcano regions changes in a blink of an eye from swell to abysmal and back again. Precipitation was mostly fine particles of wind-driven horizontal sleet. It never rained DOWN. These rain pants did the job. I'd given them a five star rating, but I have no notion of durability at this point.

Side zippers make the pants almost impossible to alter the length, which is tough for me, being short [26" inseam].

Excellent Product. Great fit with enough room for layering as needed. KEEPS YOU DRY, while allowing perspiration to escape. Breaths nicely. I matched these pants with a Bean GORETEX jacket for totally dry comfort.
Another home run for Bean......

Easy to put on over pants and shoes due to zippered angle area. Water proof. Protect underlying clothing when working in water treatment field.

Rated 4 out of 5 by LovinBean keeps me dry
I've worn these in heavy rain for up to 4 hours and stayed dry. The only complaint I have would be about the way the Velcro at the bottom doesn't always stay closed.

Rated 4 out of 5 by FinickyWife men's trail model rain pants need pockets
My husband wore these pants once so far -- snowshoeing. His only complaint was that there are is only one pocket -- in the back. He prefers at least one more pocket or two slash pockets in the front. But they did keep him dry as he searched for the deepest snow drift to test these pants!
We're going to Iceland in July and will be able to test them in the rain then.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Verified Reviewer Good for shoveling snow
My husband puts these on over his jeans for shoveling snow. Loves them because they are lightweight and don't cause him to heat up. Wish they had pockets, otherwise perfect. These replaced his last pair which lasted 20 years.

Nice light weight, very rain proof. Waist adjusting string is elastic with no way to hold its adjustment and is completely worthless. I'm using a bungie cord to keep the pants from falling down on the ground.

These are more an outer liner than weather pants. They'd probably work well when tooling around a campsite in the rain, but without insulation, their use in truly cold weather would rely on heavy layers. Good quality, sizing as described. Just not what I needed.
