Rated 5 out of 5 Great for the desert.
I'm between sizes and wasn't sure if the medium would fit. I ordered it since the large was o/s But it still fits me well. Worked great for a trip to Joshua Tree NP for sun protection. I like the fact that the string keeps it from blowing away. And because it flattens, it packs well and I can sit down and not worry about smashing it. The silver colot is pretty cool too! Definitly recommend it!

Rated 5 out of 5áby ElphieFan Great hat for hiking
This is just what I need for an upcoming hiking trip. Lightweight, with a nice broad brim for sun protection. Glad I tried one on at the flagship store before ordering because they run a little small. The silver is a nice neutral color.

Rated 5 out of 5áby DocNeen Great for Sun, too!
Bought this hat to use primarily for sun protection. Since I live in California and we don't get much rain, the sun is what I need protection from. This hat fits comfortably and the string adjusts to fit comfortably around the chin so it doesn't blow off. I love the wide brim all the way around so it provides great protection. I wear it nearly every day and its just what I was hoping for!

Bought this hat for my husband when doing yard work. This hat is a perfect hat for that! Shields his neck and entire face from sun. Another time he was out in the pouring rain and the water just rolled right off. Hat is waterproof, as stated! Worth the money!

This is excellent rainwear. The hat kept my head, hair, neck and face completely dry during a driving rainstorm. I bought the hat in a size larger than my normal size because I wanted it to comfortably fit my ponytail and hair clip. Worked perfectly! There is a cord to adjust the fit around the head to cinch the hatband a bit smaller if necessary. I bought the colonial red and I like it a lot. Very pleased. A word of note...the brim is rigid so the hat is not "foldable". It will not store in the pocket of your raincoat.

Rated 5 out of 5áby travellllller love it!
My hat arrived just hours before I had to be out in the rain- so I was able to test it out immediately. It kept the rain off of me and my head didn't get hot. The hat is comfortable and easy to adjust. This actually fits my toddler also (because of the different ways to adjust it)- so I foresee her wearing it this summer at the beach. It is wrinkled, like others have mentioned- but I don't think it really took away from how it look. I will say that the only thing that really bothers me is the inside start of the liner- it always want to flip down on my head- so when I put it on I have to run my hand around my forehead to tuck it up into my hair so that it won't lay on my forehead and look strange. It is very light weight and I kept forgetting that I was wearing it. I like the size of the rim also. I am thrilled that I bought it. I will say that it does age me by about 20 years when I wear it. It isn't what I would call a Young Person's style of hat. But I don't care- I wanted something that would be comfortable and function well- and this does exactly what I wanted so I am happy.

áby MassLLBeaners Great fit, great look, one design flaw...
Love the hat for all the reasons advertised, however I find one major design flaw that has been mentioned by fellow reviewers to be too great not to mention to anyone considering the purchase. I uploaded two pictures to make my point.
The hat comes with two drawstring fasteners, one push-button release at the brim (nice touch) and another one at the neck to prevent it blowing off. It's the drawstring one at the neck that is made of a foam that is a true disappointment. Not only does it look cheap, but it is impossible to use (the point being to quickly draw the string tightly when needed, it's not possible). As you can see in the pictures, they attach the appropriate fastener to the brim drawstring but fail to do so at the one under the chin. Not sure if there was some rationale for this but I would much prefer the plastic, easy to use quick-draw version.
I got it at a special deal of the day pricing so I will likely keep it but won't be looking to purchase another unless this design flaw is fixed. (CLICK the photos to see the fasteners)

Plan on taking with us when uncertain about the weather or worried about rain going down our necks. Should be very useful when hiking.

The stiff brim makes this trekking hat a real winner!--- no flipping up on the front brim in the wind. Lightweight, packs easily, waterproof, shades sun, and complete with neckstrap! Very pleased. Could wish for beige color, but black works fine.
