Love these shorts. I use them as a bathing suit, paddling shorts and working around the house. They fit well & I love the pockets as well as their easy care. I wish they came in other colors.

My wife says that the fit is very good (I agree) and they are the perfect weight for our desert environment.

Rated 5 out of 5 by TraverseOutdoorGal My second pair - I love these shorts!
I usually go kayaking or canoeing between 90 and 100 days per year. That's a lot when you live in northern Michigan (though some trips take place on rivers in Florida in the springtime). So I spend a lot of time in little boats, and often my seat gets wet. These shorts are comfortable and they dry really fast. I like the bagginess, so I can easily change positions in a solo or tandem canoe. The pockets don't have a closure, but are fine for lip gloss or keys when you are running a shuttle. I have them in both black and royal blue, and often pair them with a swimsuit top or just a tee shirt. They are perfect for taking a dip in a river or lake, but aren't really suitable for serious swimming. I would buy more if they came in other colors. The inner mesh brief is comfy too.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Jessica80 Great shorts to swim in or wear as a cover up!
I paired these lined shorts with the matching one piece suit for a very comfortable, sporty, flattering, yet cute & modest look! The 4-inch inseam for my Misses size (6-in in women's) offers nice coverage with an elastic waist in back and tie front & the sizing charts were very helpful. I am a camp director, so the need for coverage yet flexibility in the pool for movement exceeded my expectations. They do dry quickly and the mesh lining is high-quality. I wear them every other day alternating the blue pair with black. I machine wash, but dry them outside so they won't fade and will last longer. I also wore them on a river tubing trip and convinced my Mom to buy a pair! I even received lots of compliments from my peers at a pool party.

Rated 5 out of 5 by LoyalLLBeanShoppper Even better than I hoped
I ordered the swim shorts and scoop neck tankini top in different colors for an upcoming beach trip with elementary school age grandchildren. We'll spend A LOT of time outside doing something that includes water.
I despise putting on wet suits so I splurged and got two sets so one can dry while I wear the other. I'm glad I got two sets- the top is a little slow to dry if hung up indoors on a towel hook- on a towel bar it is faster. I am guessing outside in the sun it will be even faster.
If you are considering solid colors, I found that the cobalt top does not match the cobalt shorts. The fabrics aren't the same so the shorts hang properly, so if you are matchy-matchy like I was planning, you might be disappointed.
I got the medium based on whatever size I wear in Bean's Bayside khakis- the size conversion was perfect. The 4" inseam doesn't make me feel exposed (I was a little concerned). I may add snaps on the pockets so I can put a small dry bag in a pocket with essentials when I am out, and know that the bag will be secure in the pockets (they are nice and deep).
I've never worn swim shorts before, and it is quite odd to stand up and feel fabric sticking to your legs from a bathing suit (I expect that when I've gotten wet paddling in longer shorts).
About the top- it is perfect- comfortable, great length for coverage. So far I've worn it twice to cool off in an outdoor soaking tub I just got. No tugging on my shoulder from a too tight fit, and the bottom didn't float up even when I stretched out to float a little.
I ended up with the cobalt stripe and the solid cobalt tops, shorts in black and hollyhock. The solid cobalt will work with both pair of shorts- it is lovely color.
I'm 55, pretty active, and like so many women my age, I wish I was a few pounds lighter for my 5'6" frame, but I'm healthy, if that helps with your sizing decisions.
I've washing the shorts and top in lingerie bags and they came out looking great (which I expected from LL Bean).
So, for a review of swim shorts, now you have a review of the entire ensemble. I highly recommend the top and shorts.

This is the first LLBean product I haven't liked. The shorts are so awkward fitting. When you put them on, they feel like they are backwards. I personally didn't like them at all.

I love my new swim shorts. I do a lot of kayaking and I am in and out of the New River a lot. With these shorts I am comfortable bending over the kayak with my butt in the air. They cover what needs to be covered and move with my body as needed.
