Love these shorts. I use them as a bathing suit, paddling shorts and working around the house. They fit well & I love the pockets as well as their easy care. I wish they came in other colors.

I ordered the swim shorts and scoop neck tankini top in different colors for an upcoming beach trip with elementary school age grandchildren. We'll spend A LOT of time outside doing something that includes water.
I despise putting on wet suits so I splurged and got two sets so one can dry while I wear the other. I'm glad I got two sets- the top is a little slow to dry if hung up indoors on a towel hook- on a towel bar it is faster. I am guessing outside in the sun it will be even faster.
If you are considering solid colors, I found that the cobalt top does not match the cobalt shorts. The fabrics aren't the same so the shorts hang properly, so if you are matchy-matchy like I was planning, you might be disappointed.
I got the medium based on whatever size I wear in Bean's Bayside khakis- the size conversion was perfect. The 4" inseam doesn't make me feel exposed (I was a little concerned). I may add snaps on the pockets so I can put a small dry bag in a pocket with essentials when I am out, and know that the bag will be secure in the pockets (they are nice and deep).
I've never worn swim shorts before, and it is quite odd to stand up and feel fabric sticking to your legs from a bathing suit (I expect that when I've gotten wet paddling in longer shorts).
About the top- it is perfect- comfortable, great length for coverage. So far I've worn it twice to cool off in an outdoor soaking tub I just got. No tugging on my shoulder from a too tight fit, and the bottom didn't float up even when I stretched out to float a little.
I ended up with the cobalt stripe and the solid cobalt tops, shorts in black and hollyhock. The solid cobalt will work with both pair of shorts- it is lovely color.
I'm 55, pretty active, and like so many women my age, I wish I was a few pounds lighter for my 5'6" frame, but I'm healthy, if that helps with your sizing decisions.
I've washing the shorts and top in lingerie bags and they came out looking great (which I expected from LL Bean).
So, for a review of swim shorts, now you have a review of the entire ensemble. I highly recommend the top and shorts.

Perfect for a hike on a hot day. The drawstring allows for a perfect fit.

This is the first LLBean product I haven't liked. The shorts are so awkward fitting. When you put them on, they feel like they are backwards. I personally didn't like them at all.

I love my new swim shorts. I do a lot of kayaking and I am in and out of the New River a lot. With these shorts I am comfortable bending over the kayak with my butt in the air. They cover what needs to be covered and move with my body as needed.

I am disappointed with the catalog sizing. I could in the past depend on true sizing from the catalog. However, the blouses are not advertised at fitted as opposed to relaxed, or full cut and therefore the necessity of sending them back or not wearing them or giving them away has become more frequent. (I am physically the same size as always).

I was looking for a swim suit bottom that would give me a little more coverage, yet still be attractive. These shorts are well made but pretty boxy looking - when paired with the tankini top it was ok but not great. I'd like them to be a little more form fitting.

I decided to try these shorts as the bottom for a swimsuit instead of a skirt because I didn't like how skirts flew up while doing water aerobics, in the hot tub, etc. These shorts are extremely comfortable to wear, they are not heavy when wet, and they're just the right length. The panty lining, though, is mesh, not swimsuit material, so I wish it was a thicker material, but because the shorts fit well, I'm not concerned about anyone seeing anything, unlike the skirts that always fly up (note I have not tried an LLBean skirt).

Oh my, finally a pair of swim shorts that are a great length, dry quickly, and fit comfortably. I have wished for this style for many years. Have owned a pair and used them for three years. Just bought a second. Looking forward to using them for many years. I have both blue colors. Love!

Rated 3 out of 5 by Lucerne12345 Nice, but not for my body type
The fabric is nice and smooth. The shorts are lightweight and comfortable...IF they fit properly. For a narrow-hipped figure, they would work best. The rise is higher on the waist and I normally wear low rise, so the pockets pulled open and they didn't work for me.
