I've owned several pairs of these pants in a darker shade of khaki and loved them for sailing. The long pants protect me from the sun and the inevitable little bumps and bruises you get while sailing, but the fabric is cool enough to stay comfortable in Rhode Island summers. They look crisp and professional, and the hidden zipper pocket gives me a secure place to store a couple of essentials like an ID and car key.
The trouble is that the "pale khaki" color (the only color currently available) is much lighter than the photo, closer to what I would call "cream". As others have mentioned, pockets and underwear show through this fabric, and I expect it will be much worse when the pants get wet.
I bought two pairs of these pants, and will probably keep one pair as they do look sharp when you wear the right underwear and can stay dry. But they're not the everyday essentials that the previous ones were. I guess I'll have to head back the Mansfield store and find some replacements in person.

The pale khaki color is very pale - what I would call stone. And the light color, in the lightweight poplin fabric, make underwear clearly visible. Luckily I found this out before going out in public!

These are nice pants for the money, great for travel because they don't wrinkle much. The fit was good for my husband. And the color was nice.

The pants are nice. Good quality and fit. Can be worn to the office or casual weekend.
However,if you are buying this primarily for the hidden pockets. Please, be warned that the hidden pockets are not truely hidden. They are behind the front pockets. While this will works well against pickpockets, this may not work against robbers who might frisk your pockets.

More of a cream color, pretty ugly. Didn't even try them on.

Wear well, resist stains and easily cleaned with water on the spot. Pack well w/o wrinkle problems.

I like the bush poplin material in general. It's lightweight and slightly silky, smooth against your skin.
These LL Bean pants are good looking and well made. I like the rich ivory color of the Pale Khaki.
I did find them slightly tight around the waist. Oddly, the Pale Khaki is not as tight as the Khaki pair. I can get both buttoned but the Khaki is a struggle -- about a 3/4-inch too tight. Also wish they came in a long rise version.
Less expensive than comparable pants from other companies, which is nice.

Rated 1 out of 5 by Nickname1 Bring back the tropic-weights improved
Material was too heavy to be comfortable in over 75-80 (F) temperatures. The pale khaki color did not match the color on the website. The color together with the sheen of the poplin gave a much flashier look that I prefer (trying to be diplomatic, so use your imagination) and I suspect most Bean customers. Would have preferred seven belt loops instead of the five, but that?s probably not the style for the customer than Bean intended with these pants.
My last summer pants bought from Bean in 2009 have been discontinued, though they still make them in cargo shorts. Although the tropic-weight pants wrinkled terribly when new, they were a better pant for warm weather than the poplin pants. Bean should bring an improved version of those tropic-weight pants back or bring out another light pant, as these don?t it cut in warm weather.

I recently bought two pair of Bush Poplin Chinos in Khaki. I have since worn both pair. The quality and fit exceeded all my
expectations and the color was perfect.
In the old days poplin meant wrinkles but
not in these pants. I few shakes after coming out of the dryer (low heat) and
they were ready to hang up or wear. They
look good with a very dark blue blazer
(US Navy Blue). I will wear them all year
round.
